I would be pretty sure that this game isnt about American patriotism. I would be willing to bet that there will be people to kill from both sides of whatever conflict is going on.

Also, isnt this developed at UBI Montreal? I would have a hard time believing a French-Canadian development house would be making pro-American propaganda based during the Revolutionary War.

oh, it's not a major worry at the moment, but i don't believe it to be outside of the realm of possibility

i'm still completely at a loss understanding why people think the fact that french canadians are making it means it won't be like that, though

they're making a product to sell, not creating some great work of art

I would just think that a game made outside of the US wont be filled with as much flag-waving nonsense as a game made in the US. Its not out of the realm of possibility, but the AC franchise seems to sell well regardless of region so I would think they dont have to pump up that one element to sell more to the US region alone.

Regardless, Im very excited to see more about this game.

They have to shoehorn the costume in regardless since its the thing they have carried from Altair, Ezio and Desmond so far. Be hard to ditch it now, even if its a bit less than practical for the setting.

In a game about a war between the US and UK it will be very interesting to see where French developers go

Well, if you go with the politics of the time, there were French soldiers fighting on the American side (some ideologically, most because losing colonies weakened the British Empire).

Looks like the Assassin in this game is friends with George Washington or at least the relationship between the two will be a focal point of the game.

Okay, so I realize that news sites are already leaking info related to the leaked GameInformer article on Assassin's Creed III, so I suppose I will do the same here, even though it may not be quite right... Though it's either us or them.
Here is a basic rundown of the new features in the upcoming GameInformer article, to be released next week:

- The new Assassin is the son of a Native American woman and a British soldier. His calls himself Connor, but his birth name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Born into the Mohawk, he eventually crosses paths with the Assassins in his search for righteousness.

- Connor is quiet and stoic, letting actions speak for words rather than conversing with others. In contrast to Ezio, Connor is a freedom fighter who acts in the name of justice rather than on personal revenge.

- Settings will include Boston, New York and a large countryside. The countryside will be the setting of about 1/3 of the game, and will be the location of many events during the game. The countryside will be about 1.5 times as big as Rome in Brotherhood.

- The protagonist will fight on the American side, with primary allies George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. However, this does not mean that the Americans are the good guys and the British are the bad guys. Templars are everywhere…

- There will be seasons in the game, meaning that the sun will shine during summer and the landscape will be covered in snow during winter.

- Fighting and stealth will be completely re-innovated, with Connor being compared to a “predator”. The player will be able to climb trees and other natural elements, and dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a mohawk is now also an option.

- Animals will be present in the woods, like deer and bears. The player will be able to kill them and pelt their skins, to sell them later with the reformed economic system of the game.

- There will be puzzles similar to The Truth, only they will not be given by Subject 16.

- Desmond will go into the new Animus 3.0 and will find himself going into “significant events”.

- 100% sync in memories returns, though this time you will be rewarded when you complete memories to 100%. Checkpoints will also be introduced to mission replay, meaning you don’t have to replay an entire mission to get that 100% sync.

- The Brotherhood, or Assassins Guild, will return in some form, albeit differently than we have seen before.

There will be no more Mercenaries, Thieves, Courtesans, Romani or other factions, but there will be a replacement for them.

- Den Defense will not return.

From the AC wikia, it was removed but someone saved it. I'm not sure if this info is allowed, moderators delete if you feel like is not right to post it.

Haven't even posted in this thread yet I'm so bowled over with excitement. I love the AC franchise, I even bought that absolutely bollocks, rip-off DLC The Lost Archive.

i don't really care about the fact that you're killing british people

but lordt help me if it goes in for any patriotic cheerleading. that shit is tedious for non-americans.

[edit]actually, i don't want to generalise. it's tedious for me.

I agree, I just know the moment they start with any "America Fuck Yeah!" I am gonna be seriously turned off by the experience, so I hope they leave it out and try to keep the new lead neutral (or at least distracted by more pressing matters).

They did say in the scans that there are good and bad people on both sides.

Apparently the country side has Lexington and Concord in it, as well as the native american village that the protag grew up in.

Did Assassins Creed I have Arab Cheerleading?
Did Assassins Creed II have Italian Cheerleading?

Yet you are concered that a Candian / French developer will have American "patriotic" cheerleading?

You're going to be helping the Americans in the beginning, then about half-way through you'll be backstabbed and be on your own or with a small cohort of assassins because the founding fathers were assholes.

They can't be patriotic, but they can't piss off AMURIKA by fighting with the British. So a single douchebag American backstabbing Conor sounds like a good middle-ground.

Of course, this is all speculation based on almost no information.

The developers are in Montreal and their owners are French. Seems like you are worrying about absolutely nothing. God forbid them making a game set around real American events.

I'm off now to complain about Assassin Creed II's Italian influence and their lack of spaghetti in the game.

i still don't understand why people think the fact that it's being made by french canadians is a guarantee against it being carefully lathered with patriotic mucus

they are making a product to make money, they are not creating some great work of art

if their focus groups tell them that american patriotism sells, they will put american patriotism in the game

I'm really excited for this. I love the fact that the Assassin's Creed games (with the exception of the Ezio Trilogy, I suppose) try to find new and rather unexplored regions/eras for their games. Keeps things very interesting indeed.

One thought though:

I wonder if Washington will actually cross the Delaware in the game, I've heard that he never actually did cross the Delaware (though I don't know if that's entirely true or not, second hand information from a professor years back) and that the painting more or less created that story.

It's the French. Enough said.

I'm sure if you were in America, you'd understand.

Was Assassins Creed I marketed to an Arab audience?
Was Assassins Creed II marketed to an Italian audience?

aye because the french are england's #1 fan

They are neither America's fans either. I'm sure the game will be quite neutral just like the others! There was absolutely no patriotism in the other games so why would this game do it? Oh wait, its because its focused on America.

Don't people follow popular culture or heck games at all? Can you name a single game this generation which portrayed the government in a positive light? Patriotism is out and cynicism is in. American Revolution or not I'm not sure why people expect AC3 to buck this trend.

Almost guaranteed the main character will be backstabbed by the Americans late in the game, likely Washington for "shock" value. Isn't there a famous story of Washington being attacked while getting his picture painted... or did I just pull that from the Simpsons, I don't even know anymore :/

Tentatively back on board. I really needed something different to get me back into the series and this may be it. The screens and info largely capture what I imagined could be done in the Mesoamerican setting.

Why is anyone worried about excessive patriotism in an Assassin's Creed game? There hasn't been any of that yet. The conflict is always Assassins vs. Templar in all these games, typically playing out by proxy through the nations involved. Why does the setting of America change that? 'Cause of some cover art? Hell, they put this statement in the beginning of all of these games:

“Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction as designed, developed and produced by a multicultural team of various religious faiths and beliefs”

The real issues will be whether they can freshen up the gameplay. I think we can mostly agree that the core gameplay has stagnated up through Revelations and the things mentioned in the GI mag give me cause for optimism.

oh don't worry it's ubisoft they're french they don't make any patriotic american games

OH WAIT EVERY TOM CLANCY GAME EVER MADE.

I bet George Washington betrays him at some point.

I'd bet that it happens during the Newburgh Address. Connor Macleod trusts Washington with the Apple of Eden for safekeeping, since Washington speaks highly of individual freedoms whenever they meet. Of course, later in the war, there will start to be unrest among Washington's men over the pay that Congress promised them. Allegedly, during one point Newburgh Address, where he was supposed to calm tensions, Washington pulled out his spectacles to read a letter, making a quip that instantly convinced those in attendance. Only, in the game, instead of pulling out spectacles, he pulls out the Apple to hypnotize everyone. Connor realizes what has happened and chases down his former ally.
