how is looking away from the tv to see your inventory anymore convenient then pressing start ?

It'll be more easy to navigate the menu with the touch screen, that's for sure. Similar to how the Zelda tech demo had the entire HUD and menu on the pad.

They want to sell a new console; why should they pack in a controller of their previous console which most people who bought a Wii have already/ doesn't cost much anymore? Just because of Nintendo showing some tech demos which use them?

Plus I don't believe that guy from Nintendo which said at last year's E3 that the uPad won't be sold seperately - this doesn't make any sense, even if the Wii U supports just one pad.

To be competitive (against Apple, Sony and Microsoft) they need to undercut expectations, even to the point of making a slight loss on the system. The tech itself isn't really that expensive, but rather Nintendo has to offset all the R&D and the paradigm change from Standard Def to Hi Def (although have been doing this gradually for 5+ years now).

For example, they could probably make a tidy profit off $90 additional Utabs ($75 sale price?) which would be promoted like hell, to help cover some of the loss, and the rest would be covered by retail games, SLIGHTLY overpriced but quality eStore games and DLC.

Half the battle is a psychologically low price point (see Wii and 3DS), and anything they can do to get it below $300 (including below $299.99) they will surely do.

if they were thinking APPLE SONY and MICROSOFT and cheap pricing in the first place we would not be talking about the UE4

they are going to cut Wii pricing and start to localize the games we have missed in NA
Wii U will be priced at a premium

I did not see Apple cutting its new iPad to $250 to because of Samsung and Google
so I don't see the reason Nintendo needs to gimp Wii U yet again when they can keep selling Wiis at $99 and DS at $99 if they want that psychological edge as you say they will also need to show that Wii U is NEXT GEN not another PS3/360 but a New Gen so the pricing and power needs to reflect this

It will be £399.99, packaged with one Upad. Extra pads will be £79.99 each. Launch deal with an extra pad will be £339.99.

It will get a name change to Nintendo U.

It will launch with Pikmin 3.

I am hoping the uPad gives us more DS like gaming and less Wiimote motion games so if the wiimote is not packed in I would not care even better to leave that mess behind I have not even played SS yet because I am tired of the motion gaming it was fun for a generation but I don't want it forever its not as perfect as advertised

I think people missed this so i'll ask again.

guys, what 3rd party games do you want to see the most on the Wii U? Mine's personally Dark Souls and Assassin's Creed. and one of them is already confirmed :)

Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

I don't want to buy another Live Gold subscription, so I really really hope that in addition to GR Online, Ubi will bring Future Soldier to the Wii U as well.

this is something we have not really touch upon... I wonder if Nintendo will want to charge for an online service like MS/Sony have

I know they like it free but they have never pushed their online as much as they say they plan to this time around so I will not get my hopes up on free when everyone is charging something

still if they have an app store that sells well hmmm so many things to think about for the new thread :)

Hey, didn't Ubi confirm at the roundtable that GR Online will be a free online download like the PC version? THAT IS GREAT. I made the mistake of buying Rayman 3D.

I just want Capcom and Platinum Games support. That's all I ask for. All the rest will be an added bonus for moi. Btw, I just saw the thread for probably another Marvel vs. Capcom 3 version so I'm guessing Capcom will milk that even on Wii U. That or Super Street Fighter x Tekken Wii U Edition. Oh and Suda51 games. I love Suda51.

I'm totally expecting Rayman Origins at Wii U's release lol. The last three Nintendo console/handheld releases got a Rayman game at launch.

I hope offering free dev tools will impact the amount and quality of smaller/indie studio's games. If you're on a tight budget, you might consider having the WiiU as primary platform. It might lead towards more diversity on the WiiU and could help set Nintendo apart in the market.

I was also thinking about multiplatform games being cheaper on WiiU than the competition. I don't know how possible that would be, but talking about "why would dudebro x want to buy game y for the U instead of the xbox"... that could help. Especially if it's the superior version the first year after launch.

I highly doubt they'll be charging for the standard online access (online play etc) but I do believe that they are open to subscription based accounts for 3rd party services (CoD Elite etc) on top of the normal access.

XBL might be good value in the US, but here in Austria, paying for what amounts to basic online play and some crappy ass movie rental service is just not cutting it for me anymore. I was willing to pay for Gold back when PSN was worthless and XBL really added features that are of value to me personally, but now? Party chat was the last real addition that was of any importance to me.

Personally I would have no problem with having a PSN+ style account for the WiiU. Make it optional, let basic access to online features be free, while offering a paid subscription for hardcore fans to get early access to demos, trailers, betas, exclusive wallpapers, Mii Hats, discounts, competitions etc.

I really hope Nintendo considers something like that.

As for apps, there could be a lot of stuff that comes to mind:

Organize U: Basic App that keeps track of what your friends are doing, their game history, scheduling for tournaments or raids etc... With plug ins for services like COD Elite or Battlelog, automated Facebook and Twitter postings etc.

Stats Tracker: An App that combines all the stats that are accumulated throughout your games in one place (Headshots, K/D ratio, KOs, Fatalities, Highest Damage taken in Smash Bros, Lives lost in Mario Universe, Fairies used in Zelda, Metroids humped with Samus etc) while having online leaderboards and easy comparisons to friends.

Call it achievements 2.0 as it would allow for a much more accurate e-peen measurement.

It's going to be a Rayman 2 port.

Nintendo is tight with Capcom these days

even tighter with Ubisoft

to go even further I fully expect a Nintendo x Capcom fighter that may come in the form of Smash bros just having the full SF roster or a new game made by Capcom

still I feel a little uneasy about WiiU support until I hear from Capcom

It also means Nintendo are serious about offering full games for download - which begs the question: what exactly is their storage solution for the Wii U?

Yeah, by offering Gameware tools, they've already reached out a hand to indie studios and small development teams. Having these kind of physics/graphics/UI engines on hand will be a real incentive for some studios. Again, reinforces Nintendo's whole 'buttering up' the 3rd party teams thing.

Would be funny if Ono casually walks up on the stage in a Mario costume to announce the game :D

Last year I sorta predicted the Wii U:
Luigison said:
Insane rambling: Seeing your images made me think. Prior to the N64 Nintendo controllers didn't have handles. The N64's had 3. The GCN's had 2. The Wii had 1. (I'm not counting the nunchuck here because the majority of Wii players don't use it and many seeming forgot it existed. On the other hand, the controllers have had more directional control. N64 had 1 analog stick. GCN had 2. The Wii had gyros and a camera (plus the nunchuck stick and gyros). So, the Cafe won't have any handles and will have more directional control a la gyros, analog sticks, a facing camera, and a touch screen. (I think I should've had lunch instead of that second glass of wine. Replace the previous "Insane" with "Drunken".)

Anyone made any specific predictions of things to come from Nintendo at this year's E3? I'd make a prediction now, but E3 is too far off and it's a little too early in the day for wine.

I would say cloud or HDD, but I already have external stuff prepped so I don't really care.

I'm interested how this partnership between Nintendo and Acer will materialise, and if it truly means a cloud storage solution for Wii U. I'm not holding my breath, mind - this method wouldn't exactly be practical nor logical, but who knows, maybe they found a way around the problems?

If it's a physical storage solution, I don't see the UDK coming with a HDD - too costly in addition to the system itself and the 'pads. It'll likely have flash storage expandable by external hard-drive. I will genuinely eat my hat if Nintendo ship this thing with a built in HDD, of, say 120GB.

[stupidity]*GASP*, what if it's Solid State![/stupidity]

F-ZERO Universe by Sega x Nintendo (man the UE4 class train car has ideas)

It's not F-ZERO Universe, dude, it's F-ZERO UX.

I want Pikmins to live inside the OS

you remember the Wii News Channel having a Cat?

Well I want Pikmins to sneak around all Nintendo Apps on the WiiU sometimes hidden other times not so hidden

imagine your Mii Plaza on WiiU you line press your button to line up your Miis and suddenly you have 4-5 Pikimins in line with your Miis but you can't click on them or control they they are just trolling your system :p you can get revenge on them by feeding them to toads in Pikmin 3
