I'm sure it was discontinued and never spoken of again because it was a good idea :p

Also I don't see what Nintendo gains from it. They could do a separate optional thing like Home for Sony, which actually makes Sony profit, but I don't see why they would. Seems....pointless.

The BS-X service was discontinued in 2000, five years after it launched (years after the SFC died). I hardly call that a bad idea or a disappointment.

by fans, but not by nintendo personnel as far as I've seen, but either way, not happening.

UIs are moving toward simplicity, tis the future (errr present).

Well, yes and that was my original point as well.
:p
Still, a little fun HUB world could be interesting.
I loved HOME as a concept, and even used it a few times. But it's slow and basically just a giant advertising place.

first is the worst, second is the best, something something 3rd has a treasure chest involved so that's not to shabby either.

Why you gotta hurt?
:(

This is true (Windows Metro) and to be honest I like simplicity, but I think Nintendo, being the most creative out the the Big 3 IMO, can do wonders with the new hardware in terms of OS and UI design.

It has been brought up many times since even the GC days that Nintendo should make an Animal Crossing like online HUB world (and later a Mii one).
I don't see it happening any time soon, though.

That is just not practical at all. Just seems like conjecture from bored fans. A streamline and manageable UI has proven most accessible. Probably apple and microsoft have the best current uses thus far. Nintendo has taken an apple like approach but I am not sure they should continue that for the Wii U.

For those saying that nintendo needs UE4 to run in the Wii U. UE4 is much more optimized than UE3.9, so if the console can run the latter, the former will run without problem.

Man, you guys are losers. It's sunday, go outside or something. It's been 70 pages since I woke up and it's all you guys posting.

Wait... I'm posting too... *cries*

I've got a movie party going on in a couple hours, actually.
Other than that, fuck doing something on a Sunday.

I also like the mock up. A nice notification bar at the top displaying messages and whatever other info, smartphone sized tiles on the screen, customizable wallpapers and whatnot. Could be pretty damn slick for the controller. As for the TV, they could go many directions with that so it's hard to say.

edit: I plan to disappear for a while in an hour or 2, lol.

I played Rhythm Heaven Fever and then Skyward Sword until 530am, so I'm just waking-up. My sleep schedule is all outta whack now, and I have a 12-hour shift in the morning..

Ugh..

Animal Crossing would lend itself to the idea perfectly. Just replace the animals with Miis and you are pretty much done. Everyone's log in logs into their own personal town, and then you are able to connect with your friends (on and off line) by visiting their town.
Visiting different buildings represent different parts of the OS, such as the eShop, Internet Cafe, etc etc.

Playing games and doing "accomplishments" earns you gear that you can use in your town, so now everyone's town can be unique through the games that they actually play (not just own).

Of course, this would all be an optional interface and you could opt to use the standard system of menus if you like, but the AnimalXing interface could be a nice distraction and a way to get you to play you to play as many games as possible.

edit: looks like I was beaten, but I elaborated on the idea.

Folders is the one thing that needs to be added to the 3DS (and eventually Wii U) OS.
I want to put all my NES and GBA games into folders.

yupp, i have to post a screen of the clusterfuck that my 3DS screen is now. i tried to give that shit some sense some time..buttt nahhhh....no chance.

FAKE EDIT:

i'm here, because i have 1 1/2 week off of work. 10 days sunday. i dont care :p

How is Star Fox Command? I skipped out on this game due to bad word of mouth, but as the years go by, people now say it's not THAT bad. Not sure how good or bad is it.

Just a few more posts and you can make it to 100 in this thread.

I actually liked the game for the most part. And the ending stories were usually pretty funny.

Well, you're able to get out of your ship and shoot things. That's the cardinal sin right there.

No?

There's two phases.
There's the TBS phase where you try and protect your ship and there's the flight phase where you shoot down enemies and buildings.

It is not a bad game. It just is Star Fox in a different direction. More of a strategy with loose bits of action.

Those endings were done by Nintendo's Takaya Imamura. The same guy who created the F-Zero and Star Fox universe.

I still like this design that Nibel made a long time ago:

I don't like his controller OS design (which was esentially the same thing but on a controller lol), but that one for the TV was good.

I stand by it being some kind of amalgam of the 3DS and Wii OS'. Specially with the dual screen aspect, look, view of the 3DS OS. It only makes sense. I think you're going to be doing most of your selecting of apps and games on the Wii-U tablet.

It's horrible. All missions are all-range and about "killing x amount of enemies" or "destroying a missile". There isn't a single on-rails mission. You control the game with the stylus on the bottom screen, but the gameplay is in the top screen.

The worst part is... the hoops, the god damned hoops. Have you played Superman 64? In SF Command, they actually force you to go through hoops to be able to destroy the target bases. And those horrible missile missions... you have to destroy a missile in x amount of time, but you have to go through hoops that make you go faster and faster. And if you miss a hoop? Mission failed.

I liked the strategy aspects though, but I would have really loved classic on-rails missions and no fucking hoops.

I don't think so. I think the xbox dashboard is bordering on obnoxious with the things going on in it. Also it's more horizontal. This one seems to have everything on one screen. Which is perfect imo.

It's still REALLY similar to the 360 OS. Specially with your Mii standing there with objects and items on it.

I don't think your Mii is going to be such a part of your OS experience. I say again look at the 3DS, there are Mii games and interactivity, but you don't see your Mii during regular OS stuff.
