There's rumors of some sort of Nintendo show in March but

1) Don't know if it's Japan, Europe, or U.S.
2) It's just chatter, nothing particularly substantial yet.
Intriguing. What is the source of these rumors?

They've done Spring Media Summits in the past, so it's possible. Would be strange to have one so close to GDC and a Nintendo Direct. Where did these rumors come from?

I pointed to something potentially awe inspiring last page. Hiltz brought up the possibility of nintendo including collectors cards with each game. If nintendo built a large meta-game behind it, all games could include a set of cards used in a hero clix style of gameplay. Achievements in game could be tied specifically to the cards you own and level them up in certain areas as you progress further in the game. Then those cards could be used in the meta-game online against other players. It could be so...so amazing...

Incredible idea.

But it's Nintendo.

Incredible idea, though.

What they should do is combine the cards with the Club Nintendo codes.
Like, when you scan them, you get the card in the game but it also logs the game code to your CN account.

Ace - Any thoughts on including a list of confirmed and rumored games in the OP?

If someone wants to whip up a list, then sure.

and then some could save up and sell them online for inflate prices to insane collectors.

Hmm...I guess nintendo directs are announced without much time in advance. It's feasible they'd do the same with a live show I guess. But we're almost halfway through march already. I'd expect at least 1-2 weeks of advance notice to the press.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Is all discussion about Nintendo Wii U over the next five years going to be confined to these threads?

if apple can give 1 weeks notice for a live event, then Nintendo can do it too. Bellllieve.

lol no, just pre-release speculation, and even if new news comes out, a new thread will be made, but most discussion will still happen here leading up to release.

Does European press mean a magazine or online publication, or is this something going around Twitter or Facebook, ShockingAlberto?

Pokemon cards aren't popular anymore though and I don't see a revival happening anytime soon...

Unless they team up with Konami to make a Yu-gi-oh game? ...NO, I QUIT IT ALREADY, DON'T MAKE ME COME BACK

Nah, these are just for the pre-release.
After that, we'll have an OT for the system that will eventually peter off.

SA has some industry sources in the journalist world, so it's probably magazine and internet sites.

Well the thing is, cards would be attached to your account. There would be booster sets you could buy and trade for sure, but most cards would have to be leveled up via actually playing the games they're tied to.

The browser perhaps?

I would like to be able to browse for tips and walkthroughs on the fly while playing if needs be, speaking of which my Firefox sessions take me quite a bunch of RAM actually, especially while running videos.

If I was in charge over at Prima, I'd be falling over myself trying to get to Nintendo to sign some sort of exclusive for digital delivery of strategy guides on the Wii U. Sold on the eShop, can be called up during games in real time, include text and video tutorials. Easy money.

I wasn't talking about pokemon cards, I meant cards that included any game published on the wii u, both first and third party.

I'm gonna assume that if there was a source he could point to he would have done it, and it's probably someone in the know in the euro press who mentioned it to him or mentioned it..somewhere

maybe this is what reggie was referring when he said we'd hear more before E3....

Well, to be honest as far as I'm concerned I wouldn't rely too much on Reggie's statements, recently he doesn't have a great record when it comes to this sort of things - I'm looking forward to watching him at E3's conference though.

If there's another Nintendo Direct, it's going to be in April.

If memory serves right, there was a stream on Nintendo's site after their E3 2010 conference where Cammie announced a bunch of games, including Mario Kart, Ocarina of Time, and Paper Mario. I could see them doing the same thing after this year's conference under the Nintendo Direct banner.

well of course reggie doesn't know anything and makes shit up, but come on man, come on!

1080p!

what?
Great OP.

So they should package all the Mii information exclusive to your console on the U pad, visually represented as a planet (Universe). You could have different games, Mii parades, houses for them. Cross the platform with Animal Crossing, in a way.

I know Nintendo recently took on a lot of 3D and spherical modelers, I wonder.

....hmm i wish sega would bring chao back.
Yes. Why haven't they brought that back yet? It was the only reason why SA2 was still worth playing.

Then again, I guess it was also because Sega wanted to focus on just the main gameplay. (which has been working out well as of late)
