That's crazy. Assaulting a police officer should have been enough to keep him in jail for a while. Do the police have a copy of the video for the trial? I don't know what I would do in your situation but, I do know I'd have some friends over.

I live in a shithole ghetto and I know exactly where I will be waiting to ambush a home intruder if they are coming up my stairs. Not having a contingency plan for a home invasion is just fucking stupid imo. Not exactly hard to lay down and cover a narrow hallway with a firearm if you feel your life is in danger. It may sound like some stupid action movie b.s. to you, but I guarantee that nobody is getting the drop on me in my own house. You come in my house with intent to commit violence, and you are going to die, plain and simple.

No, this is actually the perfect situation to have a gun in. The OP could be sitting at the stairs waiting with a shotgun in case the crazy guy decided to break down the door. The neighbor would have no chance in that situation, no matter what he had.
The whole situation could have gone much worse. Its really surprising that the guy was that crazy but still didn't decide to kick in the door.

I hope there are updates. Surely the dude has mental problems. The good thing about the restraining order is that in theory, he will get in more trouble if he comes at you again. Granted, if he chops you into little pieces, that won't really do you much good. That's why I like to keep a 12 gauge handy, for close encounters. Seriously, have a baseball bat or something if a gun is out of the question. If it's like the US though, you have to wait for him to be in your house. Can't just open the door and start swinging. Fucked up.

Pretty sure nobody here is talking about killing a guy for banging on your door. We're talking about if he kicks your door down and is now in your house. If someone is banging on my door like that I'm calling the cops and hoping they get there before he gets in. If he gets in before they get there, then he is dying, and I wouldn't feel the slightest bit of remorse about it. He put himself in that position by being a scumbag piece of shit. Fuck him.

I like how you think that it's stupidity to practice sound tactics in a potential life or death situation. Hilarious actually. Obviously if both people have guns, there is no guarantee that the homeowner will not get shot/killed, but I know the inside of my house. I know exactly where I can have full view of my staircase while exposing only a tiny bit of my body. The tactical advantage is almost always on the side of the person waiting in ambush. Sure the guy might get off a lucky shot and hit me, but I will have full view of him coming up a narrow passageway. I'll take my chances. What are my other options? Running at him and engaging him with a knife or something? Sitting there and praying he doesn't have a weapon or is non violent? All I'm saying is that it doesn't hurt anything by being prepared for a worst case scenario. Someone coming into my house is at a huge disadvantage and it would take extreme luck for him to drop me before I drop him.

Exactly. Granted, I'd feel pretty fucked up about it, especially if the other person has mental problems. But, at the end of the day, if they get into my house after spending the day screaming at me about how they are going to fucking burry me, there would be no hesitation. The second he got to the other side of my door, he would have to go down. Sorry. My wife and I come before the person going all shining on my front door and threatening me.
Sorry, lost track of developments. is the guy currently locked up for his second arrest or is he out?
Does he live with a girlfriend or wife, any family?
Locked up for the night. Court today. He will get out again today. Lives by himself.

Ya, actually I shouldn't say I wouldn't feel any remorse whatsoever. Obviously you don't know how you would react to actually killing someone in self defense, especially if they have legitimate mental problems, but when someone gets into my house after breaking my door down, there will be no hesitation whatsoever. I'll deal with the mental aspect of it after the fact. Hopefully I will never ever have to face a situation like that, but if I do, I sure as hell will not allow myself to be victimized by an intruder in my own house.
