Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

So basically right now I leave for work at 6 45 am, and I get home at 10 45 pm. I just can not keep up with this thread right now. Can a kind soul fill me in on what's happened in the last 3 days, any good news, I see that GTAV is all but confirmed. Anything else major?

the gta thing is nothing more than a rumor from an analyst at this point. other than that I think that wippsel found some info about some of the engineers who've worked on the Wii U.

I don't remember....galaxy was running at 60fps?

Yes, Galaxy (and Galaxy 2) ran at 60fps.

Oh BTW, originally, Sunshine on GameCube was running at 60fps (Space World 2001, E3 2002) but Nintendo changed it to 30fps before release.

I remember seeing Sunshine on CNN @ E3 2002, and it was 60fps.

oh here's a thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26157

I'm sure the 50% extra fillrate that Wii has over GameCube would allow Wii to run Sunshine at a rock solid 60fps.

I'd love an HD remaster on Wii U.

I really hope they keep the schedule from last year, sony going on monday was much better in my opinion, thought they still need to work on the pacing and organization of their conferences.

That'd be fantastic!
Monday: Sony brings the laughs. (and, being honest, can do a pretty decent sizzle reel)
Tuesday: Nintendo brings the "wow"s.
Wednesday: Microsoft brings the "meh"s.

Sakurai is a cool guy, but the last time I met him he wouldn't give out any autographs. :( He's a huge Nintendo fan, though. Shouldn't be too surprising that he'd stay with Nintendo.

I cannot fucking wait to see what EAD Tokyo pulls off on Wii U.

I mean the first Mario Galaxy looked as if it was CG-like in some ways.

Teh lighting.

Teh 60fps framerate.

Teh environments

Did I mention teh lighting?

Mario Galaxy 3 / Mario Universe, using modern shader power, please.

I think a Sunshine sequel would look much better on the Wii U than a Galaxy sequel. Imagine if Delfino Plaza was rendered with an amazing lighting system and better water physics.

Oh and I've barely found out that the "realistic" Link is actually from a real game. Nonetheless, I was inspired to do this:

sunshine 2 with bathtub battle number 2!

tho seriously, it was harder to get to bowser than it was to fight him in sunshine....

Not very, since I believe it all has to be screened before showing.

That's what I figured. It's incredibly tightly-planned, I would imagine, but one-liners or ad-libs (especially referencing a meme-in-the-making from the day before), for example, might be something that can be added.

Silly, Sleep-Deprived Idea: Nintendo should hire the writers from the Colbert Report to create zingers for that week. Headline after headline rollin'-in..

Hey guys, I just got a notification on my eShop telling me that the eShop will be down for maintenance on the 20th for 7 hours, could it be the NiN transformation?

I don't remember, but somebody (bgassassin?) wrote a few days ago that a lot more companies than usual worked on the Wii U chipset? My guess:

  • IBM (CPU)
  • Cadence (CPU)
  • Qimonda (eDRAM)
  • AMD (GPU)
  • SoCtronics (IO)
  • ST-Ericsson (A/V streaming)
  • Texas Instruments or Modiotek (DSP)

I was told in general, so I assume that wouldn't be limited to the chipset. I felt/feel Autodesk and Havok and other things along this line that may or may not be publicly mentioned are included as well.

Regarding what you said in the other thread about ram, since WiiU is most likely going with eDRAM is that an indicator that it isn't using GDD5? Not sure if that has been said and I missed it

I must admit I haven't played it enough to know this, but I'll take your word for it ^__^

It pretty consistently throws more geometry on the screen than either Galaxy, fwiw. And you kind of have to be trying for the big framerate drops--it runs fine for the vast majority of normal gameplay.

Well, nintendo is fucked if they don't release a AAAA at launch. I mean I'm just salivating at that extra A Microsoft is working on, It's making me reconsider my WiiU purchase.

Maybe nintendo can sink some of its billions of dollars they have hidden away and go for a AAAAA game.

What the heck is this crap about AAAA and AAAAA?

It's AAA or Triple A and it already means top of the line, there's no quadruple A or quintuple A.

OK, someone care to give me a digest of what's happened since last night? Missing information kills my ability to prognosticate.

You'd have to go deep within the first thread to find the most talk on this, and there was some talk in the second thread about it. It's not a total indicator though

Another plausible scenario is 1.5GB of GDDR5 on a 96-bit bus. That's six chips, a simple bus to build and still has the eDRAM to compensate. But something I found back during the first thread is that the higher latency of GDDR5 becomes very noticeable when clocked to a certain point according to a test I saw. Based on that, if Nintendo's target clocks are within that realm, it may be better for them not to use GDDR5.

Nothing actually substantial/confirmed.

Some rumblings of FFvXIII, GTAV and F1 being ported to Wii U but again, people might be reading too much/letting the hype get better of them.

I think wsippel found some evidence that the Wii U was already being worked on since 2009 or something like that.

and plenty of photoshopped Miya-Samus with killer curves going around.

When will this company fucken learn......

I know, right? By cashing in on the last-last-gen Wii, they've stunted their technological ability to produce games that advance the hobby. How can they possibly reach for that last "A" or create game changing experiences when they're not even up to HD standards?

Nice thanks, you are really up on this stuff.

I want to see a K.K Slider musical adventure RPG, where you play the role of a young vagrant dog learning to live through music in an unrelenting, indifferent world.

i would love a 3d yoshi island game with galaxy physics

That would be amazing. Imagine fighting Raphael the Raven in outer space, in full 3D ala Dino Pirahna. I always suspected that Mode7 planet battle partially inspired Galaxy.

Before SMG2's release I was hoping that being able to replay the entire game as Yoshi would be a 120 star reward. :(

He did talk about some stuff like that.

Well for years I kept saying I was going to get back into tech learnin', it just took new consoles to finally push me. ^_^ Though I'm nowhere near the level of some others on this board. And here is that test I was talking about.
