Capcom would like Dragon's Dogma to sell 10M copies, be 2nd best selling PS3 in Japan

Speaking to Videogamer, Itsuno insisted that figure was ambitious but attainable, and is emblematic of Capcom's desire to chase success on a global stage and not just in Japan.
"I don't know if other Japanese developers are trying to become more global, but I know we definitely are," he said.
"It's difficult, because we really want this game to sell 10 million units worldwide. We want to sell a lot, and that's just something that we think we can do. We're not positive [it will be a success]. Of course it's a risk, but that's what we want - a challenge."

Brought to you by the feel of 60fps folks...is it just me or is capcom like an old man suffering from some sort of dementia? Ridiculous statements plus the plethora of packaging mishaps, it's still pretty humorous for now.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I wasn't aware that Nintendo was making games for the 360 or PS3

Most big 3rd party titles aren't on Wii or don't sell on Wii - that's why he used the HD-consoles as standard, nothing wrong with that.

There's definitely something missing, ignoring the lack of co op. There's no oomph.

Probably has something to do with its very drab look.

HD consoles were used as the standard because this game is releasing on the two hd consoles. The whole point was to look at past precedence and see how many actual games had done 10 million on the two consoles.

If they want to sell 10 million units then they've budgeted for it. They will surely be disappointed with sales and repercussions of inflated budgets and expectations.

Capcom is crazy with there projections. Wasn't there another game recently they thought was going to sell well for some reason?

I'm not buying Max Payne 3 over Dragon's Dogma.

Since those two games (MP 3 and Diablo 3) are projected to be the best sellers and competitors (logical comparison?) then expect DD to sell a lot less units.

One thing I find Capcom doesn't do nearly enough is advertise their games. Of course they're not as big as EA, Activision, 2K, Bethesda...but I can't think of how many disasters they've have this gen that would have done better if people actually knew about them.

They did a good job advertising Street Fighter IV, and Monster Hunter Tri, and both of those were successes, but if they really want Dragon's Dogma to sell, they gotta push it. They really, really need to make it look like a multiplayer Skyrim in the west, so there's a chance it'll be half-way successfull. Even if the game isn't like that at all. Which it's not.

There's only one thing to do about that. Sell Capcom to next western Dev, for the greater good.

I'm going to buy Dragons Dogma Capcpom, but seriously, do not do this to yourself.

It can only end one of two ways. Shitty, or shittier.

If we would include first party titles there would be a couple Ninyendo games to mention.

Dragons Dogma is a new IP from a 3rd Party Publisher - selling 10 million isn't possible.

I excluded them since the game is only announced for 360/PS3, so games being able to sell 10 million on other platforms isn't really a helpful indicator.

So...I'm just gonna ignore the "crazy" and entertain the possibility for a moment.

What are Monster Hunter on the PSP sales like?

I mean...how many million have they sold?

Maybe Capcom has found a bigger bomb than Lost Planet 2.

If things don't go according to plan, this could get really ugly.
That being said, it seems they've really put feet on the ground to market it and show it off.
I hope, for their sake, they get a good return on the investment.
Otherwise, it'd be a colossal waste of dem MonHun monies.

The best one is around 5 Million if I remember right. That is on PSP and in Japan though.

The best console release is on Wii at only 1 Million.

Even MonHun didn't do 10 Million, and lets not forget that this game complete drops the element which made MonHun take off, multiplayer.

And with this goal in mind they didn't figure they needed some kind of coop in their game?

Hey Capcom : people like fucking up monsters together, see Monster Hunter.

Best one did 5million in japan alone but the multiplayer was the key dragon dogma without multiplayer is kinda strange

People don't mid fucking up dragons alone, see Skryim.

Both your and my little comments are meaningless though since it is highly unlikely to sell anywhere near either of them no matter how similar it would be to one or the other.

New IP's just don't sell that many copies. The sequels can get there sure but what are the biggest new IP's this gen? Assasins Creed 1 like 6-7 mill, Mass Effect 1 3 or so million, Borderlands 5 million, Left 4 Dead 3-4 million, Gears 1 5 million etc

What is up with that? Would it kill them to patch it after release? Is it too late to program coop now?

So what the fuck are they thinking?

Are they all high?

Is Capcom high?

Being high would explain a great deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Capcpom tried to gauge profits from this to release MH to the west. Come on now, the US, EU and SA markets are way bigger than JP in terms of population and popularity. It is a lousy business move not to localize and release MH in those territories and it's a dunce move to not add online coop to this game. The aspect of swapping pawns ain't going to cut it. This is a failure of a year for the peeps at Capcpoom.

I don't think this is the case.

Most MonHun have actually released in the west. The only noteable misses are the Spin off's and 3rd Portable/Tri G, the last even rumored to be coming over.

Thus far MonHun has proven to be more popular in Japan even when Nintendo gave Tri decent marketing. I believe we will see this happen again if they also bring over Tri G.

I really think that people online, Gaf especially are out of their minds when they suggest that MonHun would pull JPN numbers, or even much larger numbers then the Wii version if they put out an HD MonHun on 360PS3 in the west.

Does this guy not get what's going on in his own company?

I'd assume so, it's their first open world game that's trying to simulate one that's in oblivion, if the TeS games games have that many bugs, I would think adding in an entire multiplayer module would just add a lot of trouble. Of course DD might have a smaller scope, but you get the idea.

I don't know anything about game development though, but I would assume it could take a while to ironing out all the bugs involved with quests, and lags, and they'd probably have to half ass the difficulty balancing among other stuff, it wasn't really meant to be a MH game to begin with, MH is MH and we have Capcom to blame for not releasing that in the west.

How do you want me to answer this statement, Crapcom?

A. Unrealistic expectation much?
B. Well, good luck with that.
C. It's nice to want things.
D. AHAHAHAHA OH WOW.
E. All of the above.

Let him direct DMC5 with Dante/Virgil/Trish/Lady and all will be forgiven and love showerd on the man.

10 Million is a stretch, but I'd still like it to succeed regardless. I'm just very glad to see they went all in on a new IP. Considering how conservative they've been as of late, I'm surprised they just didn't settle on making DMC5 or something.
2 birds with one stone . Quite remarkable .

What's with the Dragon Age logo of this game? Could've made something much better of it instead :/

edit, also knowing Capcom's recent rep. I call total bluff on their side. These people are willing to lie in people's faces just to get more sales, I'm sure of it

they haven't shown a lot variety in the game itself but odd thing I notice game has a lot of pop up(coming from guy who rarely notices flaws)

Yep, having no multiplayer will do that to a game that is a Monster Hunter-type game! I know Japan is just itching to dig into those single player versions of Monster Hunter!

It'll likely be a huge success but 10 million units is like BF3 numbers across all platforms. I just don't see it coming close to that.

Capcom is projecting 1.5 Million.

Given the dev team and dev cost that will not even be close to a huge success.

Honestly at this point I can't see this being anything short of a small bomb at best and the single worst turn around this gen at worst.
