Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer |OT| Rich, deep online role playing

Just bought this for my son on PS3 because it was on sale for $29 at Wal Mart in Canada, but may want to get into it as well....is it better to do multiplayer first before the main story or are these integrated like in the Souls games?

Q2 - just got a new laptop that can handle witcher 2 and is decent but not able to run on high settings...should have I waited to get ME3 on PC instead as the graphics would be better, or is there more of a mulitplayer community on PS3 anyway and for $29 made the right choice?

ME3 is far from being like Witcher 2, if your laptop can decently run Witcher 2, it will have no problem running ME3 at maximum. And from what i've heard, the PS3 version run like shit(dont ever hope of seeing 60 FPS unlike the PC version). On top of not being able to receive the weekend multiplayer gifts because of some unknown reason. PC community of ME3 seems alright, have no problems finding a group, its very fast. You can do multiplayer whenever you like, it can slightly affect ONE campaign ending(or all of them if you skip many sidequests), but that's about it.

The only reason some people skip the PC version is because it doesnt officially support a controller.

I hate how some people expect you to save them regardless of the situation. So GAF I ask you when do you save your teammates and when do you let them die?

On objectives i let them die usually, finishing the objective is just more important to me. And usually they are off somewhere they shouldnt be anyhows.

Oh enemy kill rounds I take into account where they are and how they died. If it is too risky i just leave em sadly, or I try to pull the enemies away so they can use a gel or maybe someone else can flank around to get them.

If it is a Vanguard that constantly gets themselves into trouble I tend to just ignore them as 99% of the time trying to res them would lead to my death haha

Another tip with infiltrator:

If you're cloaked and fire a shot, you can immediately use a power for free before the cooldown resets. The cloak cooldown then overrides that power's cooldown. It's actually better to cloak -> fire -> sabotage, then to straight up sabotage, since the former results in a faster sabotage cooldown.

I think the same goes for cloak > power > fire. This actually works a bit better if you have Energy Drain, as you can Drain shields then headshot. Kills all non-boss shielded enemies on gold (other than Pyro) with one combo.

That's understandable. I never dared to take my soldier outside of Bronze while i was lvling him from 1 to 20. Such a terrible class.

Are we talking about multi? Because the frames never drop in that even when I'm tanking like 4 Primes and 4 Pyros.

Single-player is probably 20 fps though.

Just curious. I bought BF3 on PC digitally through Origin on its launch. But I play ME3 on 360. Any way I can get the BF3 soldier to show up in MP on 360?

Same shit on PS3. I fucking hate reviving. Especially when the guy is near cover. Your character will just end up going to cover instead of reviving. Ugh.

I encouterred some two retarded kid yelling over the microphone about teamplay... They where both human vanguard with heavy AR and shotgun equiped (low marks, level 20s, about same N7 ranks) and always asking to stick together.

The thing is, they where both standing in the middle of nowhere, not moving but shooting the enemy. Of couse on silver, they never lasted more than a couple of second. They were yelling for revived and teamplay. LoL.

We end up wiping at wave 9. I have 60k. They both had less than 6k.

Also, they were blu and green fushia.

I thing they were trolling us

Revive should be LT+RT imo. The problem with A (aside from being the button for EVERYTHING) is that you have to aim at the body to revive which means taking your thumb off the right analog stick which makes you unable to aim at the body. lol

I dunno if that's better or worse than getting into cover when trying to revive.
Worse, because you're just standing there like an idiot taking fire while cover affords you some protection (or none 90% of the time because you're right next to whoever killed your teammate)

The real amazing thing is that the multiplayer is still pretty fun and entertaining. If they'd put some real effort into it, it could have been amazing.
 
Thanks for the advice on infiltrator guys. Will try it out tonight for sure.

In the meantime, here's a couple of my most embarrassing moments during the game:

  • I got killed by a swarmer, with no other significant enemy around so I couldn't even say my attention was elsewhere.
  • I got revived heroically by a teammate in round 11, so to show my courage I charged against the enemy until I killed almost everyone...only to find out the timer ran out and the extraction was incomplete because of me.
  • I ran like hell to revive a friend indoors. Upon reaching the interior of the structure I discovered it was a Banshee that killed my friend, so naturally my courage abandoned me and I tried to leave, getting killed in the process of my unceremonious retreat. We lost.

Why do people think Soldier is so bad?

I leveled my Turian from about 5 to 20 on Silver. No points into Proximity Mines. Went for Shredder on level 6 for Concussive Shot which was actually really useful against Cerberus/Reapers. Took a Geth Pulse Rifle because I don't really have any good ARs and it works well with Marksman.

It's not fun, but Soldier was always a shit class to play. What makes the class even more useless is that now every weapon can be used by every class.

On silver and gold, do you think a warp/shockwave adept would be better than a singularity/warp adept?

During the time it took to raise my adept to 20, I honestly can't recall ever killing anyone with my handgun. It was all biotic powers from beginning to end.

I relied pretty heavily on my Paladin when leveling my Drell Adept both times. It remained a pretty solid way to strip off shields even after that, although it's too damn heavy to use now.
 
The real amazing thing is that the multiplayer is still pretty fun and entertaining. If they'd put some real effort into it, it could have been amazing.

I've been through some play testing sessions now and I'd like to compare ME MP to Assassin's Creed. Both were unlikely, SP oriented games that got MP. Nobody was excited about it because it was unlikely compared to the SP experience.

Ubi worked a lot to make something original, interesting and that was ultimately compelling. There was a lot of work on IA and everything had to be rewritten as gameplay so it could be balanced.

Bioware just took some maps, some enemies, the combat system from sp (without power wheel so we can't map powers...) and it worked because 4 player coop is just like sp with one player and 2 squad mates... No need to rewrite anything, combo power were already working, revive, etc...

Shockwave sucks so I would stay with singularity/warp. I have completed two silvers with this build today.

I think they cared, there's a certain finesse in class/power choices and mechanics of the multiplayer. However, the issue lies with them having no clue on how to do a multiplayer mode well. I don't care how good your 6 or whatever maps are, that's not enough. ESPECIALLY for a game where you spend 20 mins on each map. 20 level cap? 20 levels per class and not character? A mark of devs who don't know how to do multiplayer properly is a general case of severely underestimating how far players will go.

This game will die out completely in 2 months and they need to act now. All the issues I see stem from more of a lack of understanding of how players tackle multiplayer environment more than how much they care so to speak.

Finesse? Really? It seems pretty black and white to me. There are good builds and there are bad builds. Ideally, Bioware should have made it so that any build could be successful. Instead, there's a defined "right way" and a "wrong way."

What's worse, there are classes/characters that are practically unplayable (i.e. Turian Soldier) while others are so overpowered it's insane (i.e. Human Vanguard).

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game a lot, but I see a ton of flaws in the game design.

Exactly why I'm saying they put a lot of effort into making some interesting variants, that don't exactly play out in actuality. I don't know, from the controls, to random tidbits of multiplayer I come across at time, I always feel like there was a vision, but in many cases it wasn't executed properly.
 
Is anyone getting major lag for PS3? Im glitching everywhere and I cant even go up the ladders... Whenever I do the device objective, it says our team has done 7/4 devices... This is really annoying..

It's their first go at a multiplayer. Even "experienced" devs can't get balance right so to get on BioWare because of that isn't really fair.

With some DLC to add more content/variety to the multiplayer and a few balance tweaks, a lot of problems would be solved.

They actually did pretty good for their first attempt. Hell, if it wasn't for the MP I would have sold this game because I'm never playing the SP again after that shit ending.

The gap between the content (one game mode, 6 maps, 3 enemies types) and the time needed to get - let's say - half of the weapons, mods and characters is mindblowing. They really had no idea of what they where doing.

Our team just finished the device objective and yet we FAILED with 6/4 devices uploaded. WTF. Thats how laggy it is,

Lets say Im at point A. Im trying to get to point B but for some reason the game will revert me back halfway to B. Kinda like in Call of duty... this is BS.

It happened to me on PS3 several times. To the point where I can't interact anymore with the environment : shooting stuff doesn't do anything. Can't refill ammo. I'm tossing grenades but nothing is getting thrown. I can't interact with team mates, with objectives and power never " hit " targets.

I can still be hit by enemies.

Both time I was just standing around, getting enemy fire to help my team win (and still get the credits for the 7+ waves the game wasn't broken)

But player host left twice on wave 10 and I was the only one to respawn when wave restart at 10... BUMMER

I'm trying to join my friends but it's saying that we don't have the same game version. I've cleared my cache and redownloaded the 4mb update, so I don't know what the problem is. It isn't a NAT thing because we've changed hosts and whatnot.

EDIT: And low and behold everything's fine if I host.

I think for a mainly single player game, they managed to add an addictive and fun multiplayer that not only satisfies my want for a co-op mode, but also adds to the single player - if even only slightly.

I'd say it is a success.
