I'll say this. I'm not sure we've seen this kind of WP7 hype even from the diehards since launch. Even then we might have more hype now.

Still going by this GAF thread it's still the same people that seem interested. We haven't gotten a big influx into our thread of new people interested in the Nokia stuff. That could change when the 900 actually launches and we get a new OP.

i doubt it. from what ive seen, nokia fans ~= Symbian fans, and they hate MS. and imo, the only reason there is more hype now is because we are starting to see MS taking WP7 more seriously.

Looks like I'm going to have to go to a store to do this..

It warns me about "leaving my data group".. which doesn't make sense to me..

I'm on a 2 line family plan with my mother (she has an iPhone 4S) .. we each have our own 2GB data plans.. when I try to upgrade my line, it makes me pick an LTE data plan (understandable..) and then says when I leave the data group the other line that has been there the longest will become the primary line and will be responsible for all charges..

Can LTE devices and 3G devices not exist in the same family plan?

Surely I'm not the only one seeing this..

edit -

The aT&T chat rep said to ignore the message and confirm "Yes" and nothing else would change about my account aside from my data plan and phone.. Lumia 900 in cyan is now pre-ordered.. and the wait begins.

there should be a new nokia 900 thread don't you all think? $450 off contract and free on contract is something the world should know.

There definitely should be.
Does the Lumia 900 support LTE worldwide or is it like the new iPad only American?

US only, as different operators are choosing different versions of the spec

The LTE standard can be used with many different frequency bands. In North America, 700/ 800 and 1700/ 1900 MHz are planned to be used; 800, 1800, 2600 MHz in Europe; 1800 and 2600 MHz in Asia; and 1800 MHz in Australia.[24][25][26][27][28][29] As a result, phones from one country may not work in other countries. Users will need a multi-band capable phone for roaming internationally.
Also, the Brazilian government and CnPQ, are testing a specific version of LTE under 450 MHz frequency band, specific for the rural market.

people need to know about that att new customer $100 off promo. the 900 is free with that, I say make a thread for it.

Dammit. I'll do it. What info do we want in it? I got:

Preorder Nokia Lumia 900 $49 with 2 year contract

No committment price of $450, 2 year contract $99 (from ATT)

AT&T promises biggest launch ever for Lumia 900

Trade in smartphone for Windows phone and receive $50-300 in credit (expired April 8, 2012)

Probably throw in a few articles on the 900 too.

Any good hands-on pics of the 900? Renders suck.

Wait...what?? My wife switched a couple weeks ago to AT&T when we had a fall out with Verizon. If I add a line and switch over as well can I get the free 900?

I NEED INFO!!

Fhotoroom is free for a limited time. Best filters of any picture app I've tried, and with no sign of instacam, I would recommend this for anyone who likes to tweak their pics. Tons of ways to edit too, including easy cropping and blur/focus.

This does tickle my hipster fancy. App crashes quite a lot though, but it is quite good. Thanks for the heads up!

Has anyone ever switched carriers (including breaking contract) through Amazon wireless? They're offering the 900 for a penny with a new contract. I'm not sure if I'd be better off getting that deal or going and doing it in store while trading in my current phone. Anyone know what (if anything) they might offer for a Nexus S 4g?

Man MS is trying hard to get me to upgrade my Focus to a 900. I just can't pull the trigger though. As much as I love the 900 now which is a lot more than I 1st thought I just don't feel like I need to upgrade. Maybe I want to, but not need. Think I'll wait it out till Apollo.

Gosh dang FREEEEEE is soooo tempting though. I want to wait for Apollo for a screen res upgrade though if I want to get a larger phone.

has calmed down a bit.
Do most of you guys buy on or off contract?

As my only option is a 3yr plan, I was thinking of buying off contract and selling the phone when/if I want to upgrade.

Unless it's around the same price to just pay the upgrade fee mid contract?

Off contract. I'll never buy a contract phone again. A few hundred dollar savings isn't worth 2 years of slavery.

So I guess Microsoft extended the Smoke by WP7 thing til April 5

http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/31/2915522/microsoft-windows-phone-challenge-extend-april-5

I don't have a smartphone right now. Should I just grab the crappiest one I can get off Craigslist, and go to a Windows Store asap and trade it in for a Trophy (Verizon)?

Would that work? Is it really that simple? Any catches or anything I should know about?

so you have a dumb phone on Verizon currently? if your contract is up soon, why not switch to AT&T and take advantage of the free Lumia 900? Seems like that would be cheaper and you wouldn't have to bother with buying a phone off Craigslist and the Lumia is better than the Trophy anyways.

and oh yea... make sure you live near an MS store if you are considering doing the challenge. There really aren't that many around.

Alright Windows Phone GAF you all know me.

My original idea was just to wait. I'll fully state I am not in NEED of a new phone. So with that being the case why not wait for Apollo.

Now the 900 seemed great, and honestly I dig it more now than initially. $99 was a good deal to. Still no need to upgrade.

Now AT&T throws me a loop in that the phone is free with free shipping. So I'm conflicted. The OS already runs super smooth on my Focus so I'm not sure what to do. I mean it's a free 900. Yet it's similar to what I have. Idk....

Do it, Do it, Do it. I'm kinda tired of the look and feel of my Focus (not to mention the screen burn-in that happened to mine), but the design, FFC, bigger screen, slightly faster and better camera has me sold on the 900. Not to mention the cool Nokia apps you get.

Is there any downside to that upgrade?

Don't you have to flash your GF's Android phone or something?

wait... isn't Apollo an OS upgrade?

why would you have envy for Apollo when it comes out? Wouldn't the Lumia be getting Apollo when it comes out?? I mean... it's THE flagship WP in April 2012. Isn't Apollo Fall 2012?

Snapdragon S4 CPU will probably be on the order of 4x as powerful as whats in the Lumia 900 (its a dual core Krait, which appears to perform comparably with quad core A9) and I'd imagine the GPU is around that much better as well.

So yeah difference is going to be massive. Not to mention there are rumors of support of SoC from ST-Ericsson (for Nokia) and Samsung.

Apollo is going to add support for new hardware. Higher resolution displays (720p), multi-core SoC (Snapdragon S4), NFC, rumored MicroSD support. So yeah, even tho the existing phones will get Apollo, there will still be plenty to be jealous about.

So the amoled of the Lumias isn't prone to burn in? Is just an issue with the super amoleds?
