Ah. They're both pretty cool.

Anyone know of any phone free (with contract) on Verizon that has gotten or will soon get ICS? Any $100-below-ers?

Well it's called "Cyanogen", it should be a Android fat robot with a gas mask on.

Another example community projects always come up with most horrible name.

Pretty sure it's more a play on cyan the color than cyanide the poison.

I think that was his point, that it could mean cyanide, and is therefore a terrible name.

I have however, never thought of cyanide when talking about Cyanogen. lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanogen

Cyanogen is the chemical compound with the formula (CN)2. It is a colorless, toxic gas with a pungent odor. The molecule is a pseudohalogen. Cyanogen molecules consist of two CN groups — analogous to diatomic halogen molecules, such as Cl2, but far less oxidizing. The two cyano groups are bonded together at their carbon atoms: N≡C−C≡N, although other isomers have been detected.[1] Certain derivatives of cyanogen are also called “cyanogen” even though they contain only one CN group. For example cyanogen bromide has the formula NCBr.[2]

...

Cyanogen is typically generated from cyanide compounds. One laboratory method entails thermal decomposition of mercuric cyanide

Perhaps you should.

Well, the Instapaper subscription is only a dollar a month (billed in $3 installments).

I don't know how representative this is of anything since heavy Instapaper users are probably using the iOS client. There's an interesting footnote though: he's only sold four (4!!) copies on the Amazon AppStore vs the 411 on Google Play.

Google is scared! Scared I tell you!

Am I the only one annoyed by -Pyromaniac-'s avatar? I know that's the idea, but still.

New clause needed in the TOS!

I am, but only because the bottom 2 don't match the real one with the extra icon on the left and the '| edit' part which is only visible to himself.

Also he has hideous font rendering. My font there is smaller and nicely anti-aliased.

Was just in 3 sorting out a contract for the One X. Contract done and ready to go and then the manager of the store comes over and says "sorry you cant take this phone as official release date isnt till tomorrow"

Pissed!!!

I wish my friend Coco was unbanned so we can discuss the post-mortem about Papermill. There's some pretty interesting stuff here.
This is a good read.

With Readability offering a better and free alternative, his app was never going to sell well; on iOS, Instapaper came way before Readability and acquired a good brand and positive word-of-mouth, so it should still continue to sell nicely as long as Marco keeps iterating.

I think it's still very indicative of a larger problem at hand for Android devs (and ultimately users), though.

AT&T needs to hurry up and release the One X.

Sounding like about a month. Heard March 6th as a possible release day.

Just got the updated AT&T release of 2.3.6 pushed my Skyrocket.

Story at the link: http://androidcommunity.com/att-fixes-the-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-android-2-3-6-update-20120404/

Hoping this is to get everyone up to 2.3.6 for the 4.0.3 push in the coming weeks.

I forgot about that update after it got pulled a while back. Updating mine as we speak. Did you notice anything new/different?

Marco offered a free Instapaper version for many years and has never required iOS users to set up a separate monthly subscription with an external payment processor to use the app. Papermill was always going to be a nonstarter given that there are already functional Android Instapaper clients that don't require all those hurdles to jump through. Sure they might not be as polished as Papermill but that's not the only consideration.

You'll notice that call accept and reject UI changes, slide to unlock looks like ICS. Apparently battery life is better (yet to confirm) and of course its 2.3.6. Also it looks like my Root stayed as well. So anyone worried about losing root, it upgrades just fine without breaking it.

If I find the official change log I'll post it.

Ooooh, the Mrs' Sensation just got a software update notification to 4.0. Time to have a play around to see what's new!

Edit: never used this phone without a case on before, this gets pretty warm when it's working! Guess it's saves you money on a hand warmer.

No. It's always been one giant list of all the apps.

Huh. I am looking at mine now. When I hit My apps it goes to the page and it says "installed". Then I can scroll to the right and it goes to "all" which is everything I ever purchased (or downloaded for free), installed or not.

In the past 5 years, I've used iOS for 3 and half years, WP7 for one year, BlackBerry for few months. I decided it is time to try Android and here I am with the HTC One X(Quad Core Tegra 3) -

I'm in India now, will be back State side sometime next week. Luckily I had my old Samsung Focus lying around, and the White Torch 9810 that I've been using, traded them in and paid around $150 to get this sexy thing.

It is a beautiful piece of hardware, fast, screen looks good and the camera is fantastic. I'm new to Android, so can't get technical yet. I've been playing around with it all day. There are a lot of settings here you can play with compared to iOS or WP7.

Wait, so someone beat Funk to owning a new phone?? Come on Doc, you're slipping.

Oh, and that One X looks sweet as hell. Can't wait until the AT&T version launches, as I'll probably snag one for work.

Is a phone in white a bad idea? It looks sooo nice. But will it like, look nice on the mantelpiece. And not for day to day use.

On that thought I don't trust myself.

So sexy.

I'm definitely picking up one of these when it launches on May 6th.
