Persona 3 FES (PS2 classic) coming to US PSN next tuesday

I already have this game but still, it's awesome that it's on PSN so now more people could enjoy this game. A word of warning though, this version of P3 is way harder than the portable version, thanks to the fact that you can't control your party members. T_T

But I still love this game to death <3

I just started playing the ps2 version for the first time recently. I played Persona 4 when it was released and wondered how 3 would stack up. Persona 4 was an amazing last hurrah for the ps2. I can't believe how similar the games are. I never wanted 4 to end so I am thrilled with 3 so far.

50+ Hours into my PS2 save, but i'll gladly start all over again. Can't wait for them to put the other SMT games on Classics. Would they put P4 on Classics considering that P4 Golden is on Vita?

I don't see why not seeing as PS2 classics can't be played on Vita and Vita games can't be played on PS3 :p.

They can both coexist.

Won't double dip, Persona 4 was perfect on PCSX2, so I assume it's the same for P3. I appreciate the focus on "core" games for PS2 classics though.

Seeing all of these PS2 games going digitally makes me feel that i should just buy a PS3 and forget about getting a PS2, at this rate all of the important games should go up in the store eventually right guys?

Maybe after 20 years have passed, they are NOT on this like Nintendo was on the VC.

Are Digital Devil Saga or Nocturne getting a similar treatment for US/Canada? I've already got like 3 different versions of persona 3 (physical copies of og, fes, p3p). I want some Kazuma Kaneko representation in the PS2 classics.

Is it possible to import a PS2 save into this? Like I see some saves online and wondering if I could import it into my PS3.

Nope. While you could copy saves over, the saves for PS2 classics are their own special, discrete block of data that can't be accessed to insert regular PS2 saves. This may be a minor problem for some games like Suikoden III that actually carried save over (but with how this worked already that was a problem.)

i'm not sure how many publishers are actually signed up and obviously there will always be a regional discrepancy. there's been a lot of shovelware but some surprising EU releases so far, most notably the likes of shinobi and VF4:E from sega. US is all niche titles, decent stuff from capcom and vanillaware.

we can expect the massive titles to continue getting the HD treatment, but this feels like a nice safe haven for the smaller stuff. atlus games are also confirmed for both regions. eventually having their entire PS2 output on there would be amazing.

ghostlight reported they're receiving the emulation code for DDS straight from atlus japan. there should be nothing stopping a US release, it will basically be sitting there.

Is there a way to get save data from a PS2 memory card to a slim PS3 and would it work with this version?
I'd totally double dip on a digital version if I can keep my saves.

Unfortunately they don't work. They use separate saves that are not the virtual memory cards that you get from PS2 disc games.

Controversial opinion:

I preferred the P3 style of not controlling your party members to the P4 style where you could. To me it added personality when they did something stupid (quite often) or when they did something amazing (which was great, Yukari for some reason always came through for me).

I always figured the point was the MC was really carrying the team, and this is the way I role played it, and the game actually forced me to play in this way.

Great game, but I already own 3 different physical copies of P3 and have been considering the digital version of P3P for Vita. Great for people who didn't get around to the PS2 version, though.

Yep, P3, P3FES, P3P UMD, P3P PSN DD, P3FES PSN. Yes, I'm going there.

Hopefully that means we get P4 Vita this year >>

I see. So should I just get the PSP version or what?

It depends, I personally prefer FES to Portable due to the fact that Portable removed the anime cut scenes, changed some scenes to only talking portraits instead of in game models, and removed the walkable overworld in favor for selectable menus.

In terms of content outside the main game, Fes has The Answer an epilogue, while Portable has an optional female MC play though that changes the story slightly and has different Social Links.

The two versions also have different combat gameplay, where FES has A.I. controlled teammates that occasionally can be frustrating though I rarely lost a battle due to it, whereas Portable lets you fully control your teammates which makes combat easier.

Edit: Just remembered that in FES the MC can equip any type of weapon, but in Portable can only equip one-handed swords.

After P4 and p3p, I dont think I can go back to marin karin spam again...

If you're a first timer, p3 fes is the way to go. I feel like p3p is for multiple playthroughs.

I liked it too, and I liked the unpredictability it introduced. It was an integral part of the feel of that game to me and though I like P3P the visual novel presentation and party control felt like a step down.

Party member AI wasn't that much of a problem with properly timed use of the rush button and switching tactics anyway. I just had to keep a good healing persona on hand, especially for tartarus bosses when there was less room for error.

I'm not saying I liked P4 less because I could control my party members. But the way P3 worked made me think of the characters a bit differently. I can understand why it bugged people though.

Even though I have P3P and havent beat it I think I may double dip. If they put P4 on psn ill buy the shit out of it in a heartbeat.

FES in HD... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted, and I own P3 Vanilla AND FES.

But NG+ awaits. Elizabeth? Time to die.

And to all P3P owners: This is the definitive version, not P3 Lite.
