I anyone else playing Motoheroz?

I know how much gaffers love Trials HD and this is by REDLYNX, it's kids of defferent and not as technical but it's a lot of fun trying to beat the ghosts and find the chests (really creative design)... physics feel similar to Trials HD, just isn't kick your arse hard and there are different vehicles and terrain which makes each stage feel new.

well worth the dolla I paid for it

Yeah it's cool for sure but I don't like the forced items, they work pretty poorly, especially the rocket pack. Could of done without those, or left them for finding secrets or something.

It's a decent enough game. I wish they would just do a version of Trials on iOS though.

They vary. Some days are really easy, some days are really, really hard. They've taken me anywhere from between 35 seconds and 50 minutes to solve.
Seems like a good game, playing the Lite version now. I've completed two of the free puzzles but completely stuck on today's. Any hints?

My dad made a game by himself using the GameSalad engine, it's probably not GAF's cup of tea but maybe some of you will be interested.

Also wrote a blog post on how it was made if any of you are looking to get into iOS development without any real programming knowledge:

Thanks guys.

How good is game salad? What sort of game can we create using it? Can we create RPGs or boardgames using it? I have several ideas in my mind and I have been always been interested in trying to do iOS game development.

Dynamite Shikoku

Congratulations, you really deserve it!
Anyone ever experienced a bug in infinity blade 2 where you cant use your sword anymore? Holy fuck is that annoying! Just happened to me on a boss. Ive also had bugs where sound effects stop working. Buggy shit.

I'm not sure if the Lite version is the same as the full version, so I don't know if you've got the same puzzle as me today! The way I solved today's in the full version was to attempt common English three letter words at the start of the quote, and then fill it in from there. It's a decent starting point for a lot of them, though obviously won't always work.

Been playing the hell out of. Bug princess. Trying to work my way to the top of the gaf leader boards. Has anyone 1cc the game? It's such a great game, I never knew I liked shumps the way I do, I even want to look into getting a cabinet, seen some guys on the pickup thread sporting some cave cabinets.

I know dash is into the cave games, just wondering who else in here is playing the cave shumps? It would be great to discus the games with some of you guys, I wonder if we could make a iOS cave OT. Damn it's so addicting my battery on my phone is always dead lol.

What's your GC?

Bug Princess 2 really needs an update to fix the high score logging bug. I just posted a score by turning off my shot and intentionally burning through 3 extra ships on the final boss for Game Over. 152mil Original, Hard btw. Working on Hell now but the second half of stage 3 is brutal. If I survive it I end up dying on a stupid mistake in 4.

People looking for another high-quality RTS really need to check out Amoebattle. I'll be evangelizing this one for a while, I think. I had a sense it would be pretty cool, but I wasn't expecting anything quite this fun and polished. Surprised it hasn't been discussed more here.

Haven't played carcassonne in months (I still suck) but does anyone want to play with me? Should I pick up the expansions?

Also Amoebattle looks decent. Reviews are solid on the app store, but goddamn is that game PURPLE.

How the heck do you beat lvl 4 where you can't let 30 things escape. At the very end when you lose power you have around 40 of them attacking you

Edit:nm just made all sharks and won

I'm really interested in Amoebattle but I don't know if I'll like it. Is it a standard RTS or more of a Hybrid? For reference I couldn't really get into Ravenmark despite it being a fantastic game.

So, finally jumped to the iOS bandwagon and got an 3G for cheap, so I'm digging around for software to use. But as I haven't been following the scene very well, I'm not too well versed around original iOS software, and which are really the highlights.

I'm mostly a Nintendo stuff gamer, so I guess platformers are my favourite, but I like all genres except RTS really, so a few recomendations would be appreciated.

Well, Ravenmark is TBS, so it's fairly different. Umm...I wouldn't really say Amoebattle is a hybrid, so much as just being molded really well to the platform. So, you're not (at least that I've seen thus far) going to be building structures to create and upgrade units, but a lot of the fundamentals are still there. You'll collect energy to split amoebas to create additional units, you can morph units into other types of amoebas, and you secure parts of the environment in order to mine additional energy. It's all very streamlined, yet the gameplay is surprisingly deep. Personally, this feels like a Nintendo game to me in terms of quality and polish.

I had a 3G until just two days ago when I upgraded to a 4S. You're not going to do any gaming on a 3G and to be honest you won't get much of anything done on it. Opting for the 3G is just a plain bad decision at this point and you're going to have nothing but a poor experience with it.

My GC is dantehemi, I think we have each other on our GC right now. Yeah bug princess 2 needs a fix, but it's cool cause I'm all in with part 1. I really want to 1cc the game, I can get to stage 3 with out loosing a life, but stage 4 really kicks my ass. I'm practicing each stage right now on the single stage runs (on hell of course)

Just got GarageBand on free my apps, wow, it's actually works hassle free

Plus GarageBand is really well done on iOS. I just wish they would allow me to use a camera kit, to connect my USB mic (Blue Snowball) to record that way on the iPhone. They totally allow for it on iPad, but not iPhone yet for whatever reason.

Great app though.

I've been using the iPad version, really impressed so far. Just wish there were piano lessons

Really dig the polish of Gunman Clive. Very happy I bought it last night. It's not as hard as everyone was making it out to be, but it has been my favorite platformer since Pizza Boy (which anyone who likes Gunman Clive needs to buy now). Great game dev!

Well I got it for 20 bucks, and my old phone really was a piece of crap.

Was just trying Sonic CD and it runs well enough, I guess it's the more intensive 3d games that don't run well?

And you'll get severe framerate issues on a lot of 2D stuff as well. A good majority of apps just don't even support it anymore whether or not they're 2D or 3D. Most stuff requires at least a 3GS these days. For example: Capcom's Ghost Trick DS port won't run on a 3G.

Use it as a phone, but get a new iPod touch or something if you want to actually play anything on it. Or iPhone 4's are like 99 bucks with contract.

Yeah I beat it last night. The bosses were quite fun and unique, while they were obviously inspired by great games before it. Also there's a section in the game that had a Super Mario Galaxy mechanic (gravity switching) and was super fun and disorienting haha. I can't recommend this game enough .

Are iTouchs really that much better? I guess I could get one of those, if I'm really dissatisfied with how it runs.
No Ghost Trick really ilustrates the point I guess.

I don't have a contract seeing I don't use it that much, and I don't live in the states either so they'd still be more expensive.

I would argue there's quite a bit to be played on a 3G, but it's all old stuff. None of the current flavors of the week will run on it, making this thread somewhat useless for you. If you can't exchange/return it for a newer model, then I might suggest you head over to the iOS gaming OT 2 thread and skim through it, as well as OT 3.

If you want to buy something, make sure you do it through the app store on your phone (not your pc), because your phone won't let you buy anything that's not compatible.

Assuming that an iPhone 3G is the rough equivalent to a 2nd gen iPod touch, here's a list of good games off the top of my head that should run on your device:

Carcassonne (board)
Catan (board)
Battleheart (rpg lite)
Edge (sort of time trial puzzle game, not unlike a marble madness)
Forget -Me-Not (score attack, somewhat similar to pacman but much more awesome)
100 rogues (rogue like)
Sword of Fargoal (rogue like)
Super mega worm (score attack, basically Tremors)
Super Crossfire (like an evolution of 80's arcade space shooters)
Puzzle quest (bejeweled rpg)
Dungeon raid (like a rogue-like puzzle quest)
Flight control (time management score attack)
Game dev story (sim)
GeoDefence (my fav tower defense)
Hook worlds (4 infinite runners in 1, each with different gimmick)
Hook champ (1 of the modes from Worlds, but with some progression. I prefer this one over hook worlds.)
Tactical Warrior (ugly but awesome sRPG)
Zen Bound (critically praised at launch. Relaxing puzzle game in which you rotate a 3d statue to try to tie a string around it. Wierd sounding but good.)

I have the latest Touch and it is pretty damn smooth with most games. I say wait for the new Touches to get the most out of your purchase, though. I'm guessing something will be announced later this year. I say with no evidence whatsoever.

3gs or bust dude, G is slow especially if you try to push ios5 on it.

think it has 128mbs of ram while the 3gs doubles it

I've read the 3G actually lacks CPU instructions added to the 3GS and later, so yes stuff developed for the 3GS and later in mind simply can't work because the CPU literally can't interpret the program's commands. It's very easy to see support dropped for the 3G for the simple reason that they don't want to maintain compatibility with the older architecture.

Then I'd say the iPod Touch would be the best route. They're usually updated with the iPhone's so the hardware would be more up to date with how things are now. Plus you'd be getting the retina display stuff, and a iOS5. You'd be set for a while with a Touch.

Interesting. Hadn't heard an explanation of it before.

That's the route I went last year, and it's served me well so far. I can even play stuff like Infinity Blade, though you do have to be willing to put up with long load times are more demanding games. The most enjoyable games for me, though, usually take up little space and require little in the way of horsepower. The main drawback is the freebie (or at least when I got mine) was the 8MB model, so you have to shuffle more than most.

there is a good list of 3g games but they are all rather old now, stuff like angry birds, tiny wings, most 2d games made over a year ago, you still have a large selection.

Just don't expect pretty 3d visuals at all, you also have the lower res screen which looks rather terrible today, buying an ipod touch 4 for £150 is a much better way to play iOS games for cheap. The touch is thinner then an iphone too!

Just picked up the new iPad. The retina screen is undeniably swank. Anyone know of an up to date list of apps updated for new iPad retina support? Anyway, this is a huge upgrade from my iPad gen 1.
