I do wonder what the hell that is...

And I'm still not getting my hopes up about UE4.

I just changed your life, thank me later.

What he means is, people can barely tell a High end PC game from a 360 game as it is, and the difference will likely be comparable.
my fear is lazy porting though, which is what I was asking. Yeah there shouldn't be a big difference if it's ported very well but what if it's not? Is it even possible to do a bad port? How easy/hard will it be? That was my line of questioning...

Definitely the former as nordique's post showed. But here is an example of what I am talking about. Nordique's recent post prompted me to look up some comparison videos. Now there are some things that some, if not most of us can notice, but that's when you ask yourself, "How big of a deal will it be?"

This person has some other videos like that as well.
I shall seeeee, thanks.

Well, depends on the engine being used and which system is the lead/how similar the others are to the Wii U in architecture.
Don't do this to me, man.

An E3 showing of UE4 on Wii U would be pretty earth shattering.

I just hope I say "wow" non-pejoratively at some point during nintendo's conference. I'm pretty confident it'll happen.

I'm sure we will. All this secrecy must be for something.

I'm a few pages late on this one I know, but New Super Mario Bros with a LBP-style level editor and content sharing would be genius. Especially if the released a supplemental level builder on the 3DS, so you could create levels on the go and upload to NiN.

It fits seamlessly into the whole philosophy of Wii U. You build the levels, We play them.

It'll never happen, though.
Not with Mario, anyway.
They may make a new platforming franchise that incorporates these ideas, but they won't do that with Mario.

Can't Epic just beef up UE3 to perfectly fit Wii U's enhanced capabilities? Like UE3.5? Hell there was the UE2.5 which was at least used in Red Steel at launch, I think Splinter Cell 3D was confirmed to use it as well.

And what about whatever powered Samaritan? I think Epic called it UE3.9? They really downplayed that saying it could be on cellphones ina few years correct? Surely that can be done on Wii U in that case?

Yeah, if Wii U gets UE4 and they announce it at the conference, it would be really epic to see the breakdowns here. I can see some Gaffers saying that Nintendo will hold UE4 back and doing everything they can to downplay the announcement.

I just really don't think it'll happen though. Wii U would need DX11-class effects and the high end of my hardware expectations for me to think it's possible. I'm reallly doubtful on both of those fronts. Until I see proof otherwise, I don't believe that Wii U will run UE4 or CryEngine 3.4.

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
The 4th thread and moving fast as ever, man you guys really should pace yourselves. At this rate you crazy kids are gonna be on life support by E3.

Only the bold is really needed though

:p
Just because.

Ok. But that is my opinion based on what I know.

Some people on GAF will be the same way. And from there some of them will come some of the most asinine comments. I'm already expecting it.

Like 360 games looking worse than 360 games?
:p

Obviously not the actual bloated, shitty program, if that's what you're thinking. Just playback/streaming.

Nintendo already has a music player, though.
I don't get why it needs to have Apple on it to make it any better.
Unless you're wanting a music store, which seems a bit silly for a console.

I used to love the very idea of a Mario level creator game but then I remember all of these terrible Kaizo-esque Mario rom hacks. *sigh*

I'm just trying to understand why Nintendo would need iTunes on a console...

So people can play the stuff they already bought in the iTunes ecosystem on another device? People are heavily invested in iTunes purchases, having them in the living room without having to buy an Apple TV would be seen as a value-add for Nintendo and a way for Apple to stick it to Microsoft. Everyone wins.

And it's one more box that Nintendo can check, pairing with the largest digital multimedia service in North America. No one could accuse Nintendo of being behind the times then.

Not everyone uses iTunes, though. And why would you need it on your console.
And why would Nintendo (or any of the three) want Apple anywhere near their profits?
so what you're saying, is that Frostbite 2 could run on the Wii?
That's how I'm seeing this post :/

Nevermind, I'm an idiot.

No, because the Wii lacks the features.
:p

But it didn't have third person at all, did it? I haven't played all the way through it yet.

We were discussing two different games.

You are right, Red Steel 2 was only first person.

The Bond game Quantum of Solace was an FPS until you went into cover, where you can switch to other cover (across a doorway), blindfire, and other third person actions more along the lines of Gears of War. It was an interesting idea to combine the two.

It's the largest music retailer in North America, so the amount of people who DO use it outweighs those that don't. Besides, lots of people don't use Netflix, yet it's on the Wii, so that argument doesn't have legs to stand on.

And what profit does Nintendo lose in this scenario? Do they rent movies and sell music now?

If Wii U gets UE4, we can all bank on Mark Rein showing-up on stage with Miyamoto, Iwata, and Reggie. It will be quite the headliner image.

Because Netflix is more open.
There are VERY strict rules to get iTunes on your device (such as, being an Apple product).
It'll never happen, and there's simply no reason for it to happen. Again, it's a console. You don't need a fully featured music store on your console, especially since it'll only be useable on that console.

iTunes integration on any console would be huge. HUGE.

This is coming from someone who despises itunes with a fiery passion.

I'm not quite sure if you know how itunes works...

You need power to use those features.

In a sense, yes.
But it's not about having raw poly pushing power.
It's about having the APIs and what not.

I use it for some seasons of shows, and that's about it.
I really try to avoid it because it's slow and a resource hog. Sorry, I just don't see why Nintendo would need iTunes on their console.

You bet it would. Being able to plug my iPad into the U and use it for different functions? I'm not crazy about iTunes by any means, but I'd be jumpin' for joy on that news. Talk about a megaton!

That's a plausible scenario as well. A game or demo might not be shown, but making an announcement like that (e.g. EA last E3) is something I could see.

huh?
I don't get what you're saying..at all.
So what if its an engine, like...what. I don't get this.
Engines facilitate making games. Engines do not have power requirements. Games have power requirements.

UE4 is not going to make prettier games than UE3 either. What it will do is make developer work on DX11 grade hardware easier, but there's nothing UE4 will do that is not already possible in UE3 with some effort.

If it was iTunes integration, it WOULDN'T be only usable on your console, that's the fucking point.

And someone obviously never sent Sony & Microsoft the memo about music not belonging on a console.

And those "rules" you mention about where iTunes can be are set by Apple, so if Apple decided to change their mind about it, they will. Nothing's set in stone and can never change, dude.

But whatever, if you don't see how people could want that, I dunno what to tell you.

This thread in a nutshell:
TtUv1.png

No no no. We're pretty confident that this part of the equation will be fine. I mean, look at what the PS360 can put-out. Even a mere step above that is going to look absolutely fantastic, and for most of us, the topic of hardware power is of concern mainly in context of gaining third-party support.

Games games games!
Release date discussion.
Armchair analysis of generations past.
Fighting over what makes a Mario game truly great.
Bitching about western gaming media.
Games games games!
Wondering about what non-gaming features will come with the machine.
Debate over the name of the machine.
Fighting over what males a Zelda game suck.
Commentary about how quickly the thread is moving.

I'll stop here, as I could tap tap tap all night. This thread is sooo much more!

I don't think its legal to fuck and then marry a thread, but I'm not sure.
