I've had relative success with them. Some things don't fit like you'd expect based on the image, but that's the risk you take with online orders. The higher priced stuff makes me reluctant to order because of this.

Often you can find the exact same clothing on Amazon or elsewhere for a better price and no wait for stock to be fulfilled.

Is this with Jackthreads or MyHabit? I've been wondering how well/quickly Jackthreads returns work since I'm kind of specific about fit.

I don't buy from jackthreads anymore unless it's an item that I know the sizing for sure. I bought a few button-downs from them and they're like tents on me

I've purchased pants and sunglasses from there that were fine, but yeah, their shirt sizings are spotty as hell. Mostly because I feel they just copy and paste the sizing charts rather than examine the individual brands themselves.

honestly, when I pull all the spare fabric out in front of me to make it fit, it sticks out about a foot from my body. never again.

The secret is that most of the shirts are garbage quality. Can't fool anyone into thinking a $20 button-down is going to either fit right or last long. Furthermore, with a brand you've never physically laid hands on? You might as well be gambling.

What pants are those? I really like the look with the shoes and grey shirt.

Edit: also what do you all recommend for plain color tees? I don't mind a small logo either. Right now all I have are American Eagle. Yeah, I know, AE, but their plain shirts with a small eagle are decent, and well priced.

Google has failed me so maybe fashion-gaf can help. Does anyone know what kind of boots these are?

that sounds about right to me, so long as in the thighs they're working for ya. i tend to go no break when I get my pants tailored. I generally have come to not like them. I like the pant to sit right above the shoe line. I wear interesting socks usually so it is cool as it helps show the sock off a little and keeps the pant's lines super clean, which I think helps make you look like a daper mother fucker.

Where do you usually buy socks from? Right now I only own two pairs of interesting socks (argyle print), so I definitely need to step that up. Like you, I like to show my shoes off a little bit, so I want a tapered/modern fit. I'm tired of feeling like my legs are lost in a sea of fabric.

As for most of my dress trousers, they fit fine in the waist and thigh areas, but they definitely need to be taken in below the knee. I can't wait to splurge on a bespoke suit.

Look like Timberland Earthkeepers judging from the bottom pic.

Where should I go to tailor a white dress shirt? I just want the neck done up a little better (is that even something I can ask for?)

An outfit I just threw together for today. I bought these kicks back in March and I've only worn them out about 5 times, cause they're pretty loud. I have the same "problem" with my air force 1's, they just tend to clash with alot of what I wear, which is more "grown up" so to speak. My low cut black adidas get the most action, (they are slick, but not loud like my other sports shoes) followed by a modest pair of black, red and white coloured nike high tops. I definitely plan to buy a pair of Doc Martins or something ASAP. That and a low cut pair of white adidas, they go perfectly with darker pants and darker leather coats.

Very basic fit, so nothing really to critique. Jacket looks a tad big, though.

Also a word of wisdom for all, myself included: don't shop for individual pieces; shop for elements. We need to stop shopping for outfits and start building wardrobes.

Not sure if it's your style but everything looks too big here. Jacket sleeves look like tubes on your arms and the jeans look like they're for someone much heavier than you.

i used to buy all of my socks from banana republic but then on a trip to target with a friend i found their collection of off the wall socks to be quite awesome and significantly cheaper. so now i pretty much go there when i need to replenish my stock. I have like 30 pairs though, so i don't need anymore.

i tend to love argyle anything so my socks are pretty much argyle but go across the color spectrum.

I usually just get my socks from TJ Maxx. They have some brand name stuff for $5-10 for a couple pairs and I don't really see the point in paying more. H&M also has packs of 5 pairs for around $10 (argyle, dotted, lines, etc).

What is your opinion on Volta shoes? I really like the look of some of the shoes in their "classic" collection, but they're a little expensive for me at the moment. Do they ever go on sale?

So my post edit may have gotten buried, where do you guys recommend buying polos that are good quality and aren't terribly expensive?

I wear them every day for work and need some new ones.

Also, what color shirt goes with dark grey pants? They are almost like very dark grey/black with lighter specks in them. Hard to describe...

i am not a polo person, but decided to give a nice green one from jcrew a shot for summer. it is a nice slim fit and feels great. can't offer much more beyond that.

Went to TJ Maxx on a whim and picked up a nice plaid Penguin Original tie for $13. Not bad... I definitely need to check out the local Plato's Closet to see what awesome coats/jackets/blazers I find on the cheap. Does anyone here thrift? Share those stories. Also, we should start a thrift club and try to go at least biweekly and post what we snag. Anyone interested?

I used to when I lived near a Plato's- I occasionally found some decent stuff but the majority was AE/Aeropostale/Hollister crap.

TJ Maxx always has those Penguin ties- I actually picked up a few myself the last time I was there. I can't stomach paying $20+ for ties anymore.

Dappered just did an article covering Polos, here

Also Land's End clearance has their Tailored fit Polo, and their Heritage Polo.
Land's end sizing run large from what I heard, but their return policy is very generous.

Can't beat $10! I'll check them out.

Any hints on the pants? Like I said the ones I have are almost a dark dark grey with lighter grey speckle if that makes sense. I have a purple slightly speckled shirt to go with but that's it. I may have a pic somewhere.

Grey

There is nothing that cannot be worn with grey and that is a fact. With a darker, more charcoal grey try rich blues, purples and greens. For a light to medium grey then lighter colours in blues, pink, yellow go really well.

Also, black is fantastic colour to pair with a light grey to make your outfit look automatically more casual. For example, when wearing a grey suit try a black dress shirt without a tie when heading to dinner. It really works.

Intro to colour

And this tumblr page is pretty good

What modeil is this , seems a little bit "baggy".
Great color combination tho, you should cover your CP's more with your jeans.

New Standards. I went with a 28 since I wasn't sure if they were using the new sizing or not like they are with some raw pairs. So a 28 would be one up from what I normally buy or one down from what I normally buy. Turns out it was one up. :(

I'll live with em though mainly because 28 was the smallest size they had and no they're out of stock. I'm sure once I get break them in they'll drape better.

I shop almost exclusively at thrift shops because money is always tight. :\ Something I posted in the short-lived thrift topic from last month:
I've been getting some great deals at BuffaloExchange lately and it's doubly nice because the ones here are right in the trendier and college neighborhoods, so the selection of clothes is always pretty slick.

Goodwill and other local vintage shops are better usually for "spare parts" clothing -- I like finding neat oversized t-shirts and cutting them up for summer tanktops, and turning reasonably slim business slacks or chinos into shorts -- but again, there are hidden gems to found pretty much everywhere.

Favorite finds from the last year:

$350 pair of handmade Church's oxfords for $8
$200 Faconnable button-ups for $5 (one had a broken button that I easily replaced)
Decent-grade cashmere sweaters for $10
Rad vintage leather '80s handbag (in bright red!) for $35; talked them down to $25 since the inside zipper was loose
