3DS firmware update - 4/25 FOLDERS!!!

This is great! The VC and 3D Classics stuff is already getting a little bulging, and I would love to sort by platform without having to move every damn game each time I buy something new. This is even more helpful for hiding all the crap I wish I could delete.

Add auto-sort options (platform>alpha-numeric) and it would be perfect (Vita too).

People are freaking out about folders hahah.
There's barely enough content to warrant folders. Pretty sure not a lot of people have THAT many programs taking up home screen space.

Not an ambassador.

Excellent news. Been wanting folders for some time now. Patching is great as well. I am curious as to what new apps are coming. I wish they'd update the browser to use HTML 5 or at least give us a YouTube app.

Well the 3DS technically has more HTML5 capabilities than the Vita and PS3 browser. Still shit, though, since that doesn't include any of HTML5's media capabilities.

I'd love a Youtube app too, given that Youtube 3D is already a real thing.

I assume post-patch it'll work similarly to Xbox Live or PSN and not allow you to be connected to the internet if you refuse a game's patch. But how will they keep the people who don't update to the new firmware from playing online?

EDIT: Crap, thought this was the Mario Kart thread. Eh, question still applies.

Folders! What a nice way to start the day. Only thing that bugs me: why just plain text for the folders? Gimme some nice icons!

didn't nintendo straight out say that they are absolutly NOT going to patch mario kart? Like..a few weeks ago?

They did, then I threatened to shave Iwata's head.

and just the other day I was thinking and hoping for a folder system for the 3DS since my home screen looks cluttered. Whats even better is that a folder can hold 60 items. And I still have a lot of stuff I want to buy on the eShop and I hope Nintendo better bring out the big titles for VC. Really waiting for the Zelda Oracle games.

well, I'm glad they changed their mind..
I mean, blatantly ignoring glitches and problems of that nature on one of your flagship franchises is just wrong, and I'm sure they know that those problems prevented a lot people from buying the game.

I'm glad they're doing it. I stopped playing MK7 online because of that.. I just can't stand people spamming that course and taking advantage of that stupid glitch

Yeah I was thinking that too. When creating/editing the folder you should be given the choice between:

The first letter of the folder name.
Pre designed icons for common folder types. For example; software types (VC, DSiWare, etc), VC systems (NES, GB, etc), genres (Action, Racing, etc).
And custom icons we can draw ourselves.

Oh well, maybe next update.

Folders sound pretty promising; I too have grievances about moving all of my icons when I want to make a space for a game, but now I'll be able to have some brilliant organisation going on.

Nice one, Nintendo.

I wonder what is going on over there. These are some really great fixes and additions. Its very unlike them to even be remotely competent when it comes to things like OS feature sets and game patching.

Ugh, everytime I turn on the 3ds...another firmware update!

Yeah, awfull! Isn't it? :p

on a side note:

is it just me or does nintendo seem to listen more to their customers now?
i mean, mk7 patch and folders were pretty much what fans were screaming for and nintendo delivered.

next stop: wii u powerhouse with 8 working haptic tablets please. (899.99$) :3

Neat, but I'm still waiting for the update that lets me access the home screen while playing a DS game.

Not being able to adjust brightness without quitting the game sucks.

You can totally adjust the brightness when playing a ds game. Hit the home button to suspend, then hold down select and use up and down on the dpad. Its magic.

Don't quote me on that but i think that won't be possible due to way the system works while playing DS games.

Edit:
i mean entering 3DS functions while playing DS games.

Wow, that's actualy pretty awesome. I luv u Nintendo <3
still don't know what exactly that Nintendo direct show is.

On April 25, a system update for Nintendo 3DS will give users new functions to explore. By downloading this update, users can create folders on the system’s HOME Menu to organize their content. This new feature is designed to make it easier than ever for players to access their favorite downloadable games, videos and demos. With this update, users will also get helpful recommendations in the Nintendo eShop for titles they may like. Other elements of the system update include the ability to update select software, such as a Mario Kart 7 update coming in mid-May that will resolve shortcut exploits in the game.

Also for Nintendo 3DS, a recent series of Kid Icarus anime videos will return to the Nintendo Video service starting April 28.

I'm a fan of Nintendo but it's hilarious seeing people happy about this...

If it was any other company this wouldn't even be news...people would be like "ok and?"

That was one random NoA rep that either didn't know, or wasn't allowed to talk about the upcoming patching system.

I'm happy people are enthusiastic about their hobby. Good old hype never hurt anyone.

Obviously you weren't paying attention when iOS 4.0 was announced/released. When Vita gets folders, I guarantee you that GAF will make a big fuss over that too.

Nintendo fans are not alone in their desire for better UI and menus. See threads on ps3 and 360 OS updates for evidence.

Wow, so forward thinking!

Hehe, but seriously this is great. I agree with the others though; Finally!
So these things will be built into the Wii U I assume. That's also great.
