He's an infinite respawn. I've had him show up many times, both before and after accepting the quest. You might want to save and load the file, which is what most people do to force a respawn. No reports of it bugging out for others. :/

all right, i'll be sure to do that. thanks for the information.

So I finally got the final (I'm assuming) character. The game has only been hinting at it for the past 65 hours...

I suck at this game. I can't even beat the giant caterpillar or the lizard thingy in the 1st cave.

You're probably underleveled to fight the caterpillar at the moment. Named enemies are much harder than most bosses.

Sword Valley. Beat Mankhar or whatever his name is after like fifteen tries and got fed up with the subsequent random mobs ganging up on me and turned it off for the night. Up until that boss, I was breezing through.

Yeah the difficulty kinda spiked at that fight for me too, wiped 3 or 4 times until i got the right group(Sharla heals ftw), same with some random mobs after him. Probably didnt help that i skipped many sidequests from Frontier Village and Alcamoth before? I dunno. I just decided to do more sidequests like back during my time with Colony 9 and Bionis Leg after i was done with the fortress. :lol

I recently got the seventh party member and was wondering if there's a specific strategy to using them that I'm not aware of something.
I'm getting killed by enemies all the time whenever I use them but I'm perfectly fine if I play as other characters so I don't think I'm under levelled or anything (I'm usually around 3 levels higher than enemies that are just wiping me out). Even if I have Reyn in the party to draw aggro away, if I hit someone too many times or they just decide to attack me instead of him I keep getting destroyed. Is there something in particular I should be doing with this character, a certain set of equipment I should stick to, or do I just have to have Sharla in the party whenever I use them so I don't die?

Armor spoilers
For the 7th character, at the start they will be getting hit quite a bit. I think after a while you can buy some armor in a shop that is focused on speed. This armor set has inbuilt gems for agility and attack speed. Like Dunban, 7th benefits tremendously from more agility. 7th is not meant to tank damage directly like say Reyn. With max agility bonus and attack speed bonus from the armor set I was talking about you should be seeing a lot more success with them.

I can't actually remember if you get max agility and attack speed from the speed armor set alone, but you can use a few gems to fill it out as I believe that armor set gets you close to the max at least. Hopefully this will be helpful to you.

It's possible if you don't do any side quests. I, however, just finished every single quest that's available to me in Colony 9 at this point, hell yeah :D

I dunno, outside of challenges I only did sidequests I found along the way and only died like 4 or 5 times from bad luck/poor ally AI (omg stop spinning in a circle shooting fire and res me). At some point I got over leveled (dunno how either based on what I previously said) and then stopped everything completely and did the rest of the game under leveled. But I am pretty sure
Dunban/Shulk/Riki
is cheating in all honesty.

I'd use Dunban all through there honestly, controlling him as well. You will breeze through it.

Good thing I asked, thanks. I'll just keep doing the quests as I get them and the 7th character will come in time, not going to rush it.

The cut off point for
Alcamoth
quests is LONG after you get the 7th character. It doesn't come until you pass several zones beyond that point.

Managed to finally get some free time tomorrow, so I can finally play this game again!

I am so closed to passing this game, I should be able to pass it tomorrow finally. Can't wait to see the ending! But I'm gonna put some serious time into this game so I'm gonna do some side quests first so the final boss would be a lot easier to battle.

The last boss was way too tough for my liking.

Do you get some kind of obvious warning like

?

I think I had Dundun/Riki/Shulk. They were literally incapable of hitting Dunban, I just had to focus on trying to keep aggro off everyone else. Team is really good at topping as well.

Yeah Dunban is pretty good at tanking, and once you get that AOE spinning attack, it makes getting early aggro on more than one monster much easier.

45 hours in, level 49.

completed some quests and leveled my guys high enough to beat the boss
at the bottom of the mountain region

game sure likes to keep introducing questions, that's for sure.

got my first heart-to-heart since the very beginning of the game too. 45 hours in. looking forward to more, but i need to switch up my team again. it's been sharla/dunban/shulk and
melia
/dunban/riki for a while, and everyone has a pretty high affinity towards each other. reyn probably needs to be in a party with riki or something, or i just need to get riki to give reyn lots of gifts.

I was just going through this thread, and got up to page 17 with the kotaku review and secretmoblin posted that the reviewer only played 35 hours.

This is what he said "After 35 hours, I felt I had seen enough to decide whether or not to recommend the game to people. I'm sorry if you don't think that's fair. In an ideal world, I'd have hundreds of hours to spend on RPGs every week! In the real world, that's sadly not possible."

Ummm, you're a video game reviewer. That's your job, to play the games and then review them. So in the real world you should have more than 35 hours to play the game.

In what reality is this possible? For 35 hours of work, I get paid about SEK 6000 ($900). Do you think the reviewer was paid $900 for his review? Nope. Would it have been great if he instead spent 100 hours on his review? Sure, but who's going to pay for it? "Oh, but reviewers are gamers and love playing games!" Maybe he does. It's still work. This is all ignoring the fact that 35 hours is more than enough to judge the quality of the game.

Other than the last sentence, this succinctly explains why paid reviews are unlikely to be informative on the value of games that will be played longer than about 20 hours.

The last sentence is simply false. For example, most MMOs lose subscriptions because of the stuff that happens after the 35 hour mark. Most e-Sports type games only gain in value as the playtime increases (because the player gains competence, and the metagame perpetually evolves).

Sometimes, in a story driven game, the ending is very important for the lasting appeal it has on you. And for every 60 hour game a review has to conquer, there will be a dozen two hour shovelware titles. If a company / site has any integrity with their reviews, they will stress the importance of playing an entire game and pay for it.

So it ok for film reviewer to not see the full thing? I'am not saying they should do every thing just the story

most game sites do rank a game on story, if they don't see it all makes it pointless to try and rank it

I think your comparing apples to oranges.

There's a lot of people who say that Deadly Premonition is worth playing through. I got as far as partway into the first chapter before throwing my hands up and refusing to put up with the awful shooting.

I've yet to find any story in games that requires 30+ hours to go through worth it if everything else is bad. Even if the storytelling is the focus, you still have to play through it, and if the gameplay elements are subpar or worse, I don't fault anyone for giving up.

Should it be noted in reviews as to when this moment occurs? Absolutely, but I feel that it's still an honest and informed analysis as a review done by someone who did absolutely everything the game has to offer.

Ugh, I hate boss battles where it's only hard because you have a bunch of shit ganging up on you.

Seriously, I'm about to just throw my hands up and walk away at the
Face Nemesis
fight. I'm level 50. I shouldn't be getting raped to death in five seconds.

Is that the one where a couple of Guard Units accompany the boss?
If so: I'm not sure if it was intended, but
if you die in this fight, you get reset right in front of the room, while the other Mechons aren't reset. If you kill some of them they won't respawn and it gets a lot easier.

I'm trying to get the 4th skill tree for Shulk and the wikia says :

Fourth skill tree "Pessimism" is found in Colony 9 via the quest "Désirée's Future". Prerequisits are Colony 9 Affinity between 4 and 5 stars and the quest "Jackson's Awakening" needs to be completed.

I'm at 4 stars and completed the Jackson Awakening quest, but Desiree still dont give me the Desiree Future quest. What am i missing?

You probably need higher affinity for Colony 9 still. It says between 4 and 5 stars are needed but its actually a specific amount that is higher than 4 but under 5.

If your affinity chart is missing some connections, you can't get certain quests, thats why you should always talk to every named npc at least twice. run through the colony and talk to everyone, especially betty, jackson and that artist guy + all people from the military district.
I can't remember 100%, but I had the same problem. talking to all sorts of people solved it.

I'm pretty sure i talked to every named npcs at least once to add them to the affinity chart, but if i have to talk to them again to unlock some possible quest...

If it's stressing you out, maybe just step away and do another quest line for a bit. You can always come back to it in a while. Way too many people burn out on quest while playing this game.

I dont mind doing quests, i've been doing this for 6 years with WoW. :lol

Just got melia. Read the guide and i still don't understand what im supposed to do with her lol.

Very basic rundown:

Using her summon skills (Lightning, Water, Fire at this point) will cause her to create an aura. These will give you a buff centered on Melia. When you release an element, it does an attack on the target and removes the aura. Sometimes you want to keep the aura up, sometimes you just want to attack.

Lightning - Boosts Ether, when released does large damage to single target
Fire - Boosts Strength, when released does medium AoE damage plus blaze DoT
Wind - Boosts Agility, when released does medium AoE damage
Water - Healing over time, when released leeches HP from target to Melia

There are others that you will earn as Melia levels up. Be sure to look at your Tutorials for more detail. Not all of them come up automatically.

How far along am I in the story?

So I'm at the (post 7th party member spoilers)
Hidden Machina Village and exploring around the Fallen Arm.

I'm considering replacing Shulk with the new party member, and using a main party of
Melia/Dunban/7th
. Any advice on how I should be using the 7th? I'm leaning towards the Attack specialties, but if its not working out too well I may switch to the Speed stuff.

I've had the last character for a while now, but I've lost the will to keep going. Sorry guys. =\

It's nice that the battle system finally is where it should've been all along (with skills, gems, and equipment actually meaningful and rudimentary character builds starting to emerge), but that's about all I can say.

I realized the little bit of fun I've had here and there is far outweighed by all the other crap I find significantly less entertaining. I think 60 or so hours is enough to know that I can shelve this with no hard feelings.

You're pretty close to the end! You should just rush through it, the insane ending outweighs a lot of the negatives imo!
No seriously, I laughed so hard through the ending I had to rewatch it on youtube to see the stuff I missed, it's that great. I am talking like laughing so hard I literally cried
.

You poor soul.
Oh god I have 10 level 85s on WoW
. I actually think that is one of the reasons I do not feel very compelled to go back and do quests in the game now that I have beat it. I just can't take the questing man, the quests are just so poorly designed and there are so many of them. I've spent the past 7 years of WoW doing stupid fetch/kill quests so trying to motivate myself to do them in pretty much any other game is impossible nowadays.

fucking seriously? i thought that was the half way point. i thought i was just a little bit past the half way point
(mumkhar fight just happened)

For me, playtime wise, that was around half way for me (what you just completed). Story wise, I felt like the area you're coming up do was around the half way point
as it takes on a completely new story arc, and pretty much closes most of the first primary story arc

You are right.
Prison Island
marks the half-point of the story.

Like I mentioned above, I think the literally half way point is much later because of story events. Even just playtime wise, you might spend a lot more time playing after
Sword Valley
because of all the new side quest, additional skill trees, completing Colony 6, and the
quest for various Monados

14 hours and 30 minutes in and I just beat
Xord
in the
Ether Mines
.

Wow, what happened afterward was awesome. I totally didn't expect to get
Dunban
in my party.

Since I started the game, I haven't played as anyone but Shulk, but now since I have
Dunban
, I figured i'd main him for a bit. Wow. When playing as someone else it's almost like playing an entirely different game. It's truly incredible.

Right now i'm using
Dunban
, Shulk, and Sharla. Is that a good combination of characters to use? So far it's working pretty good for me.
