Would be a very odd choice, given how there never was a Nintendo system with a Darkstalkers game (as far as I remember) and, most importantly, the style of Darkstalkers (mixing really dark/grim imagery with humorous cartoon art). Not to mention the last "hardcore" fighting game on the Capcom made exclusively for a Nintendo console (Tatsunoko vs. Capcom) bombed.

As much as I'd love to see a Darkstalkers, I doubt it.

Tekken has never been on a Nintendo console until now.

I never expected to see games like Metro: Last Light or Alien Colonial Marines on Wii U.

I think people will be surprised at what games show up on Wii U. I don't think looking at past installments in a franchise is a good indicator of what games will end up on Wii U.

Generally, I would agree with you, but it's Capcom we're talking about.

True, but here's the thing.

Ono would be in charge of Darkstalkers if Darkstalkers is in development, correct? And he's been hinting about a new Darkstalkers for awhile now. And Ono has been dropping hints and hype about the Wii U hardware and how it's full of surprises. So I'm getting a feeling he is working on some Wii U related projects.

So I'm just trying to form a connection between these two completely seperate things. :p

capcom aren't going to make a modern fighting game with sprites.

They will just make the art style look like Street Fighter 4 or Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Last we'd heard TVC hit it's (modest) sales targets actually. I'm expecting at least one Capcom fighter at WiiU launch (probably SFXT).

The Wii U, which Olson and Connor expect will ship in the fall of this year with a price tag of $299 or greater, is forecast to sell only 35 percent of the volume of the original Wii during its first 14 months, due to "disappointing" hardware specs and competition from the mobile games industry.

Sony's next console will launch during the 2013 holiday season, suggests the analyst firm, and will only sell 50 percent of the volume that the PlayStation 3 managed -- again, due to competition from tablets and smartphones.

Finally, Microsoft's next Xbox will launch in 2014 says Piper Jaffray, and will sell only 55 percent of the volume that the Xbox 360 has before it. The firm believes that this will be down to the next Xbox being "an incremental improvement, not a quantum leap" over its predecessor.
Boy, they expect some real shit. It doesn't say WHEN 2014 they expect the next Xbox, so I'll assume late like the others.

I like Ono as a developer, and I like he doesn't take himself too seriously, but honestly, I don't trust anything he says until I have it entirely confirmed. He said so many things in the past that didn't end up true, so meh.

Probably more MvC3. SF4/SFxT style doesn't work well, I'd wager, far too grainy. MvC's is smoother.

Really? I read somewhere that it absolutely bombed outside of Japan, but maybe Capcom's expectations were low, or I just was misinformed.

And I don't doubt there'll be a Capcom fighter for the WiiU, I just don't think it'll be Darkstalkers. That probably will be PS3 exclusive, seeing how Capcom is crawling up Sony's ass lately.

I think you guys quickly forget every E3 before this one. Nintendo has always gone for long stretches without any info on a new system. This is nothing new. And don't expect a fanboy E3. It never happens.
I'd call E3 2006 a "fanboy E3", from a Nintendo point of view. That press conference was just amazing, the playable game demos exciting, the announced games were awesome. Nintendo very clearly "won" that E3.

Miyamoto on stage in tux conducting an imaginary orchestra of Wii games was the best thing ever.

Holy crap, investors are predicting that Nintendo is going to win using the most negative possible wording. I'm… kind of impressed.

Anyway, tablets and cellphones have been huge for a couple years now, and it hasn't really put a crippling ding on the market thus far. One of the three consoles on the market is following a fairly normal end-of-gen dropoff, while the other two are doing far better in this point of their lives than previous generations have shown with their respective products. Why would this market, which seems overall much healthier during any transitional period before it (arguably with the last one being an exception, I suppose), suddenly implode?

«The firm believes that this will be down to the next Xbox being "an incremental improvement, not a quantum leap" over its predecessor.»

Also, I missed this the first time. Science-me is extra angry at these analysts for not understanding the basic, basic principle that a "quantum leap" is by definition an "incremental improvement" of the smallest possible order. Damnit, world-at-large, stop getting this wrong all the time! RAAAARGH! >:O

Six years ago their big quiet from Remote announcement to E3 showing was 8 months.

Would it be accurate to say that the Wii U initial announcement had more substance than the initial "Revolution" controller announcement?

and because of that, another bastardized victim from the fighting genre thanks to Ono aka Japanese Bobby Lee

The press conference was good, but to top it off with the Brawl trailer AFTER the conference was what did it for me.

Man, talk about an iconic moment! If there were ever a Lifetime Achievement Award given to him (like they do for actors at the Oscars), that clip would be on the cap of his highlight reel, right alongside his "I am not Link" moment. Pure joy right there.

Honestly? As much as I want to find-out specifics on the system, a dramatic and memorable conference is pretty high up on my wish list as well.

There was also this rumored report:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-05-darkstalkers-4-in-development-since-last-year-report

Darkstalkers 4 has been in development since last year, according to a new report.

Street Fighter 4 producer Yoshinori Ono is in charge of the game, an inside source told VentureBeat.

Apparently Darkstalkers 4 uses a modified version of the Street Fighter x Tekken engine, itself modified from the Street Fighter 4 engine. Principle development of SFxT was completed at the end of 2011, freeing up Ono to move on to Darkstalkers 4, a game he has repeatedly told press he would love to make.

This latest report is strengthened by last month's news that Capcom had registered a new Darkstalkers trademark - sparking speculation that a new game in the vampire fighting game series was in the works.

The trademark was registered on 14th February with the European Union trademarks office.

The last time Capcom registered a Darkstalkers trademark there was in 2004, for PlayStation Portable game Darkstalkers Chronicle.

I wouldn't say I'm expecting it, but I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo vs. Capcom actually happens. It'd fill a gap in Wii U's lineup nicely, seeing as the next SSB will likely be a Q4 2014 release, if not later.

Yup. Nintendo knocked it out of the park without Brawl, we got to see stampeding, and then they add this on top? That's killer instinct right there. Ninty had Sony and MS gasping for air, staggering around the E3 ring - and then Iwata yelled in a growling, menacing tone: "FINISH HIM!"

Thus, the Brawl video was released. So damn good, I'm wondering if they're prepping something just as relentless for this year. :)

This is the one where he comes out and plays to the Wii Music orchestra? A kind of lame and stilted introduction in my opinion. The best part of the that show was the demo of TP and the trailer for Mario Galaxy. After that it was so-so. The finale was a big tennis match in Wii Sports. Nothing spectacular.

From what I remember Nintendo "won" that E3 on GAF, but mostly based on the Wii queues and Mario Galaxy gameplay on the showfloor, and the SSBB trailer. The conference itself was ok but not so well received around here.

It could actually have been a lot better from a fan perspective with a proper Super Mario Galaxy trailer and closing with the SSBB trailer.

Most likely we'll get a port of UMvC3 with a Nintendo character or two added
And a port of Street Fighter X Tekken.

It's such a huge fantasy of mine, I have a hard time entertaining the possibility of it becoming a reality.

But if it did...oh of it did....

"We believe console gaming will continue to be a time-share donor to social networks, mobile games and tablets. We, therefore, favor companies with increasing exposure to social/mobile gaming, including Zynga and EA."

This is why I never listen to analyst, first they're usually never right. Second, they're opinion for what they want, out weigh what could actually happen. I still say that mobile games aren't in the same market as console or even handheld games. When a mobile game reaches $30 - $60 to buy, people who buy games on their mobile devices will stop. Vise Versa, if console games were $.99 - $10, people would buy those more. No one ever sees it that way though.

Say, was "winning E3" a thing before 2006? I mean, that was the first E3 I watched and read reactions of, so I have no idea if (A) people always discussed before the conferences over who'd be the winner, or (B) this practice started because the Wii gave Nintendo an instant, gigantic mindshare boost which soundly trampled over the competition.

So everyone is expecting ample ports? I don't see that going over well with gaf. Montage reel of Aliens/Darksiders II/AC3/CoDBO etc. I can totally see this opening the "games" portion of the Wii U segment.

Healthiest outcome would be them getting all the ports with a small sprinkling of third party exclusives. I don't think GAF will really complain* if that best possible scenario occurs. Maybe if it's only ports, but I don't see that being likely, given that we already know about one or two exclusives.

* Somebody always complains, no matter what. Trust me, I'm an expert.

I see lots of ports heading to the Wii U. Personally, this makes me just peachy-happy, as I'll get to play some of the better games from this generation. I suspect that many other Nintendo-only gamers will feel similarly as well, but for most of MountainDewGAF, I can definitely see them using it as an angle of criticism.

I haven't played the first one to be honest, but I will if the second one is on the Wii U.
If the HD version is ever made available on the NiN, I'm going to double-dip and grab it.

Such a good, good game. The music alone is remarkable. I cannot recommend it enough.

I honestly expect to see quite a bit of ports except for games that are well into development.

The following are what I expect to be shown at E3 for the Wii U:

GTA V
RE 6
Dead or Alive 5
Medal of Honor Warfighter
007 in some form
Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Personally, I wouldn't be disappointed if none of these titles were announced for the Wii U, but they would definitely be some nice additions to it's library.

I hope you're right. It's about time we get some info. How many years has it been since the teaser trailer?
I honestly have no clue. I just remember a lot of people being furious over them not talking about it.

I'm going to buy the GC version off ebay or something if it's announced for the Wii U.

So, don't leave me in suspense! :D

Sadly, there is no Wikipedia List of E3 Winners. What's the general year by year consensus from 1995 until now?

Sorry, I don't really remember or care what the consensus was in previous years. It's not like it's mattered that much as far as the actual market is concerned (i.e. Sony "crushing" MS with a slew of fake CG trailers at E3 2005; Nintendo's awful GBA/GC connectivity-focused E3 2003, which was followed by what I think was GC's best holiday season; etc.).

I'd be surprised if retro didn't show a trailer for their latest project at e3. If also be surprised if said game didn't come out this year or within the launch window. Anyone think we'll get a smash bros. teaser from sakurai?

I would estimate development on Kid Icarus Uprising ended around Fall 2011 (6-ish months seems reasonable, yes?), so he had about 9 months of development time come E3 (although I'm not sure if he'd immediately start working on SSB4). At that stage, I don't think any gameplay would be shown, it's quite possible however that a little CG trailer with some veterans and a newcomer or two are shown.
