Well GAF, what say you? Everytime cargo shorts are brought up, all the haters appear and dismiss them. What other shorts am I supposed to wear on a hot summer day? Basketball shorts? What if I actually need to have pocket space? Khaki shorts? Do I work for UPS now? Don't even get me started on jean shorts.

Cargo shorts are the superior shorts and and I don't understand all the hate.

Its really hard to find shorts that make you look like an adult,but not an old man.I don't think it's cargo shorts per se, but rather the ones with the puffy pockets that make you look like a dumpy "cool dad" or a mountie.
There really aren't many good alternatives. I mostly don't wear cargo shorts, but I have no idea ho to describe the shorts I do wear. Short pants? They are completely non-descript.but were also hard to find.

I am but for my work I can't wear shorts at all and I feel a lot of people don't wear cargo shorts here. But I could be very wrong, I don't really look at what people are wearing. Though irks are wearing really short shorts these days because of he weather.

But do you (or anyone) ever actually use the lower, outside pockets? Unless you're on Survivor and need to hide your hidden immunity idol, I don't think those pockets have any use.

If you have that much stuff you need to carry around, it may be time to invest in a bag or briefcase.

WTF ladies, these things have been around for awhile now and they've always been hideous but to compound the problem by running them into the ground, they're made that much worse. Yet women persist.

I only have one pair of cargo shorts. I usually carry my wallet, cell phone, iPod, and keys. One pocket for each.

Cell phone in left pocket

Keys and other misc items in right pocket

Wallet in back left pocket

Nothing in right back pocket (I mean you can't)

Sometimes trying to fit gum, cigs, lighter, and other stuff in the right pocket...it just gets to be too much.

Anyone else run into this.

I always felt that the thing about cargo shorts is that the pockets were more of a fashion statement than to be actually used as adequate pocket space. The people who I have seen wearing them tend to over stuff the pockets so that they bulge out. My dad was one of these fashion offenders. Back in the early 90's, he would wear the embarrassing fanny pak. I still frown when people occasionally wear em out in public.

The pockets are useless; anyone who actually puts anything substantial in them looks like a complete clod. They only really look good when the pockets are small and muted; at that point there's no point in having them there anyways.

That having been said, I prefer longer shorts, a little loose but not too much.

This right here is what I'm talking about. Add anything to the Keys-Phone-Wallet combo and you just run out of pocket space.

Shorts that go past the knee will make any guy look stumpy. I know some dudes are a bit anxious to show any thigh, but you don't need to wear short shorts. Anything at or slightly above the knee will suffice.

I only use the bottom pockets. Cant stand to have anything in the top pockets right up against me. I don't wear jewelry or a watch either. I know it's weird, but I just cant stand to have a bunch of stuff up against me when I'm walking.

Also, I'm 5'7 and 187 pounds. Kind of hard to find clothes that are comfortable when you are stocky like that.
