I don't hate on cargo shorts unless in extreme circumstances. I just prefer front flat style, knee length. Something like this:

I used to wear cargo shorts all the time when I was younger, even cargo pants. Nowadays all I wear are just blue jeans pretty much.

Now please show me actual normal-built people in real life wearing this and still looking as boss as those perfectly lit models. I get what fashion-GAF is aiming for here, but I really doubt (especially the last page guys' outfit) this would not look stupid in reality, especially if you don't have perfect body proportions and weight. And by that I don't even mean really overweight and stumpy, I'm sure the slightest bit of tummy would destroy everything.
What are you saying? People with "a bit of tummy" would look worse in whatever they wear when directly compared to a slender person. Cargo shorts are no exception to this.
But then again, this is the internet, we are all tall, ripped and handsome.

Nah, that's not what I meant, it was just the first thing that came to mind when thinking about why I probably would not wear this. I doubt I would look as slick and suave in those 'costumes', and in fashion shots, everything's supposed to look great. That's all there is to it.

That's because grown men should not wear shorts except in the rarest of circumstances. If it's hot out and you aren't on a beach, on a boat or otherwise doing something active, linen pants are the way to go.

I don't find the pockets on cargo shorts or pants utilitarian at all. You put something remotely heavy in those pockets and it just bangs against your knees/thighs/calfs every step you take. The pockets are pretty useless in my world.

my lady however hates them... then again she is the one with a sense of style.
I love cargo shorts thanks to the easy and comfortable fit, I can go fishing in them, hang out at the beach and I can go on a relaxed stroll in the city with them.
Cargo shorts for the win.

i like cargo shorts. more comfy than others, especially when hot. Only other shorts I wear are b-ball shorts, but that's for lounging at home or doing physical activity.

I was watching a special where this was considered fashionable in Australia (or England....can't remember which).
Since I only wear fitted clothing I'm not into the cargo shorts either. Although those pictures of the guys showing half their thighs are even worse.

I have yet to see any shorts in this thread that looks better than cargo shorts. Like others have said, the above the knee design only looks good on really thin/fit people and sometimes not even then.
I can't fathom with all the ridiculous things people wear in public that cargo shorts are beginning to take heat. It's like making fun of tshirts or baseball hats as far as i'm concerned. Such an inoffensive type of clothing.

I can sort of see the shorter, flat shorts being fashionable, but I don't get the leather shoes with the shorts look. Makes me think of my 94 year old grandpa. Boat shoes are ok.

I like my cargo shorts. I do not give even the tiniest fuck about nerds who think I'm not fashion-forward.
And honestly, with PAX East still fresh in my mind, I feel pretty fucking good about what little fashion sense I have, at least in that crowd. I love my people but nerds arguing over this stuff... it's petty.
