Lol special guy hit and run, classic.

i wonder if a mod changed his name to fit his post style?

So is Crysis 3 coming out for the Wii U? I know Crytek was talking a lot about the Wii U and this seems like the type of game that can push the system a bit, and it looks fucking phenomenal.

What is everyone realistically expecting from the WiiU reveal?

I'm expecting:
--Hardware powerful enough for parody with the Orbis/Durango and capable of running all next gen engines in some form
--A competent online infrastructure in place complete with a downloadable store
--High profile third party support to finally be let out of the woodwork
--Sufficent RAM for devs to avoid early bottlenecks
--A controller that really is worth the investment

I don't think any of what I want is out of the realm of possibility

No game has been officially announced for the Wii U since E3 (excepting like 2 digital games that will also be on the 3DS and DQX).

Regardless of if these are true or not, these will not be something Nintendo officially says at any point.

Really?
It wasn't them stating they they only post controversial news articles for hits, and not because they believe any of it?

I wasn't aware they ever said that. Can we start some kind of petition to ban the site from GAF?

Barely. I still go there daily, but they're still pretty terrible at checking their sources. At least he isn't posting rumors as real news as often without "RUMOR" in the headline, but it's still pretty bad journalism. He reposts old news as new news all the time, too. (Sorry, RMC.)

He ALWAYS puts a source at the bottom of every post. His site is simply a compilation of Nintendo news, with some commentary now and again. Still have no idea why it's banned.

EDIT:
The banned site is banned because of a history of posting anything and everything Nintendo related, right down to some random shit some guy said on some forum. Marking these posts a 'rumour' isn't enough when the rumours themselves lack credibility and plausibility.

Simply reporting this content on the front page of your website cascades. It gets reported elsewhere by other sources, and people run with it. Suddenly a simple little troll/bullshit by a random internet nobody is all over everywhere, yet still isn't any more believable or truthful.

The reason the website was banned from GAF is that staff was tired having to clean up threads and discussion based on every little 'rumour' that was posted. It's annoying when a thread gets made on a 'rumour' that originated from a guy with three posts on some obscure blog. We don't like the forum getting clogged up with any other bullshit, so this too doesn't fly.

Granted, 'banned' does not mean they can't be discussed, or even used as a source. It just means you should be very wary of doing so, as information from this source is often unreliable and inaccurate. If the banned website posts a credible rumour worthy of discussion then of course it can be used as a source, even though we block the url.

But then you've got stuff like 'Chartz, which is banned for the obvious reason.

Ah. Well that makes much more sense now.

It was years ago on one of the Nintendo Voice Chats after Matt and Boz left. Last time I ever visited the site.
I've asked to have it banned for countless reasons, but sadly, they're too big of a site and still get some news.

Thank you very much for the clarification. My impression was that the ban was absolute, and your message here that it's more of a "proceed with extreme caution" condition makes much, much more sense.

(heck, taking extreme caution when reposting a rumor from any bloggy site seems like a good general rule..)

Obviously not. However, these truths should be answered by devs privy to the platform at the event at least in some way.

Nintendo hardware is always a parody of existing hardware.
;)

In seriousness, I agree that these items are likely. Regarding the last point, the controller is pretty much sixth-gen compatible, so it has a major leg up on what I considered to be a massive disability for the Wii.

I honestly think the biggest thing Nintendo can do to get this system selling is have apps on the tablet controller.

If they announce Angry Birds on this thing at E3 and have a UI similar to the iPad, this thing will explode.

Nobody to my knowledge has ever been banned for talking about the site, but the auto-censoring of the url makes it obvious that it has to be used lightly.

I go to GAF for news :3

If GAF says it's okay, I'll believe it.

GAF says a lot of things. Like how the Wii U is slightly slower than the Xbox 360 but also 5x as fast. I'd take this site with a grain of skepticism, as well.

I remember at that conference (the name escapes me) that took place about a month and a half ago there were some rumblings of Netflix planning some cool things for their wii u app. So, I wanted to ask you guys if you had any concept ideas of what you'd like to see in wii u Netflix as far as its feature set goes. Who knows maybe congressman can make a mock up for us too.

I know this going question is going to sound very repetitive in this thread but I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep up with the news (or lack thereof) but....

Did I miss anything in the last 50 or so pages?

It still pains me that efforts to create a "real data" equivalent never really got off the ground. http://vgsales.wikia.com/ was a really good try, though, and I still reference it now and then.

Wait, also http://garaph.info, though the shipment numbers (which are most apropos to this discussion) seem a bit wonky here and there, probably for lack of info. Or maybe I am simply the king of poorly-implemented searches. ;)

Current Standing of Nintendo Ip's as of this generation

(Excludes compilation IP's and focuses on hardcore appeal)

Note - Three A team titles would beat 7 B team titles in a fight, and so fourth.

A Team

- Mario: Lord Paramount of Nintendo
- Pokémon
- Zelda

B Team

- Kirby: Lord Commander of the B team
- Donkey Kong
- Xenoblade
- Kid Icarus
- Fire Emblem
- Advance Wars
- Golden Sun
- Metroid: Master of Dimensions
- Sin and Punishment

C Team

- Animal Crossing
- Pikmin
- Punch Out
- Pilotwings
- F-Zero
- Starfox
- Yoshi
- Wario
- Excite
- Endless Ocean
- Steel Diver

Reserve Team

- Earthbound
- Startropics
- Balloon Fight
- Waverace

Topics of Note

- Nintendo are in a golden age of sorts. With new IP's such as Xenoblade, and awesome reboots such as Kid Icarus bolstering their B team.

- Kirby has performed exceptionally by working overtime this generation, with the only thing preventing him from being A-team being a lack of super strong sales.

- Animal Crossing and Pikmin are soon to gain new titles, hopefully re-promoting them to the Nintendo B team, strengthening it even further.

- Key failures include the demotion of Metroid from the Nintendo A-team with Other M, reject titles like Steel Diver making poor debutes. Weak appearences from Pilotwings and Punch out haven't provided enough brunt to promote these titles to the B team.

- F-Zero and Starfox face becoming reserves due to a lack of appearences.

- It is a shame that there are ip's with much potential wasting away in the reserve team.

(Will elaborate and clarify this post later).

To be honest, as long as it works like netflix does, preferably easy to navigate like the website, it doesn't need anything else. I don't care much for 'fun' features either.

I could see them having game trailers, or 'nintendo' exclusive movies (eg pokemon movies, tv episodes), though.

I don't think any of what I want is out of the realm of possibility

I expect a lot of underwhelmed people once E3 hits, as the hardware appears nowhere near as powerful as they hoped/hyped. This will be due to a vast majority of third party support being composed of ports, which look near if not identical to their 360/PS3 counterparts. I also expect some of Nintendo's own work to fail to deliver on the hardware's true capabilities: I don't expect NSMB Mii to look impressive at all, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pikmin 3 looked curiously like a high resolution Wii game with polished up assets and shaders bolted on.

I predict most of the controller gimmicks will be forgettable, especially from third parties. Most games will simply use the pad for item selection, and maybe for goofy puzzle integration. Nintendo will show some cool ideas, but they wont be in launch titles. Despite backwards compatibility, almost no game will be shown using the Wii Remote + Nunchuck. This will depress me.

Online will be improved over the 3DS, quite noticeably, and I expect/hope there will be a few pleasing surprises. But it will still have plenty of dumb shit because Nintendo's track record with online is severely questionable. That and I loath the eShop.

In all I expect E3 2012 to be pretty typically Nintendo. Those who love Nintendo will have lots of cool shit to look forward to, some of it looking amazing, others not so much. Third parties will impress Nintendo only gamers with a plethora of welcome ports, but multi platform gamers won't care all that much. Those disinterested in Nintendo titles will see nothing of value with the Wii U, and will continue to ignore it, and let everybody know they're ignoring it.

If Nintendo can show that you're essentially getting two-systems-for-the-price-of-one when you buy a Wii U, they will find success. Focusing on being able to use apps and being able to play games around the house independant of the console and the TV has the potential of making this thing a monster.

And EatChildren's prediction, while sober-sounding, seems about right. I scream "HYPE!" in here knowing that the faithful are going to gobble-up most anything that Nintendo brings, but those who will become converts? Few, it seems.

I still stand by my prediction: 30 to 50 million sold, third parties porting but support falling off, Nintendo being the ones who show what the tablet can do, and Nintendo staying safely and profitably in its corner of the industry.

What about with navigation as far as the padlet goes? The ability to freely steam from your tv to the controller and just throw headphones on and plug it in while someone watches tv.

I pretty much agree with every single word, including the hatred toward the eShop :p

Which is why I'm hoping Nintendo says fuck it and shows teasers of stuff that might not even be coming out for a long time, just to show what the console could be capable of. But yeah overall I expect tons and tons and tons of comments how the launch games don't look so awesome and how it's on par with current gen, it's inevitable. Unless Retro's game is shown and proves otherwise.

Well, I sort of figured that was a given. But it doesn't really need anything beyond that. I guess they could use it as a hub for Machinima movies though I highly doubt it.

Yeah this could certainly happen. I suppose it depends on how much development they actually did on the supposed Wii version, and when they made the switch.

Don't Animal Crossing games sell crazy-good on portables? (edit: I would have assumed you were placing more of an emphasis on home console titles, but you included Pokémon in your list, is godlike on portables but not so important in the living room)

And didn't the last DKC sell better than last Zelda

Yeah it comes down to how far into development the Wii version was. All signs seem to point to the game having been built for the Wii quite specifically, to the point where it was going to be shown off at E3 2011 (I think?), but was ultimately canned in favour of the Wii U.

If it's aiming for launch, there's no way in hell Nintendo is going to rebuild an entire game with brand new assets and a powerful engine. I think it will look a lot better than it did on the Wii, but I also think it wont look as impressive as people might hope. Lots of Wii-era stuff there, rendered at a higher resolution with some extra shader grunt.

Yeah, I entirely agree. My only point of contention is that I think nintendo will have some sort of graphical showpiece, but it'll be impressive on an artistic level, not on a technical level, and a lot of people will confuse the two. That'll spark endless discussions about how the Wii U is more powerful than people gave it credit for and how nintendo fanboys are desperate and delusional.

The other thing is the "underwhelmed" people will probably be people who were down on the system to begin with. They'll act like they were hoping for more but in reality feel vindicated about all their previous doomsaying. And they'll be sure to let people know they were "right." smh

I was going to write something like this, it was in my head, but I forgot when I trailed off onto the controller :p. Yeah, I do think Nintendo will have at least one, probably more, really impressive looking games/tech to show off, either for artistic or technical reasons (or both). I don't think they're totally incompetent. They know they have to deliver something in that realm, and I'm confident they will.

But I do think majority of their line-up will be kinda eh when it comes to graphics, if just because of all the inevitable third party ports. Which will look excellent, but in a "this also looks excellent on my PS3/360, and worse than my PC" kind way.

Wild card is I'll be totally wrong and there will be tons of amazing exclusive awesome looking stuff, and the world will rejoice. But that might break GAF.

Hm can't say I'm aware of this, but if that is the case then it will very likely be the scenario you proposed unless its not a launch game.

As well, I'd like to see them announce partnerships with other studios that assures certain titles for the future, even if they have zero footage to show. For example, final fantasy will be heading to nintendo consoles, mgs will be heading to consoles, the next monster hunter game for consoles will appear on the console, etc...

Not all of those, I just mean in that fashion. Would eliminate a lot of the "I hope this comes wiiU" and "I hope that comes to wiiU!".

Who knows though, maybe they'll hit every possible note there is to hit and everyone leaves satisfied. Would be quite the feat.

I go for something between "1 great looking game from Retro" and "tons of amazing". I would not be surprised if we have something like 3 or 4 graphical horses (i'm not talking about the launch window only) : Retro/Monolith & third party exlcusive.

Interesting. You are expecting a generation-on-generation drop of 50-70%. You seemed more optimistic than that.

My prediction is a drop, but one that is less than 50%. I think it'll break 50m. I need to see E3 before I can properly wipe the dust and muck from my crystal ball, though.

Deep down we all want that to happen.

On the other hand I agree on the comments regarding Pikmin 3, but I think Pikmin 3's biggest selling point won't be it's graphics but the usage of the Upad.

Right? Super Mario Bros 4, Metroid Dread, new Star Fox, new F-Zero, Smash Bros 4 trailer. Not to launch with the system, but for 2012 and beyond.

TOTALLY unrealistic and won't happen in our wildest dreams, but seeing the video game internet break in half would be fun.

At this point, I'm just hoping for one really impressive looking game. Maybe Retro Studios' project.

Or just more DKC. I'll be content with that.
