Awkward Scenes in Videogames That Made You Cringe

I see a couple of mentions of Groose, but I'm gonna go with the cole train "rap song" over the credits of GOW.
Just embarrassing man!

Team Nora and nearly every time Snowe opens his mouth in FFXIII.

Although I'm sure there are hundreds of examples swimming in my head, this one is what came to mind first. They look ridiculous and they all talk like 5 year olds.

My god, I hate them all.

Except Lebraux <3

I was randomly watching my brother play Rogue Galaxy. We watched a cutscene where some male character voiced by Steve Blum was spying on some under-age girl at a waterfall. I don't know what the character said, but he made it clear that he thought she was sexy.

I asked my brother, "Uh, is he a pedophile?"

He stopped playing it soon after and never bothered to finish it.

Every time Virginia Maxwell raises her guns in Wild Arms 3. It's supposed look badass, but it clearly isn't. And the scene after chapter 3 where some random guy dances.

And who could forget:
I AM IMPACT!

Also, Deus Ex HR.

Those supposedly good dialog are ruined by the boring Jensen's voice and the... well... weird NPC actions as if they have ants in their pants.

I like his voice and most of the voice actors, but something was off about most of the character models/faces and animations. Hopefully in the sequel they will improve this alot.

1. Haruka/Saejima - Yakuza 4
Haruka (age 12 in Yakuza 4) is going to tell Kiryu that Saejima is awake after washing ashore, he grabs her to stop her as Kiryu was going to ask the police for help. He lands ontop of her with his leg between her legs just looking down at her with the clear look of wanting to rape the girl. The scene just stays on FAAAAAAR too long and becomes awkward for both her and you the player. When the scene is over you might be sitting there thinking....did that just happen?!

Loved that scene. Was so "oh shit!".

EDIT: I guess I don't get uncomfortable that easily. Something has to really break the logic/mood of a game before it even registers. So Bayonetta dancing is whatever, but Johnny/Meryl totally bugged me in MGS4 (a few parts with Otacon too).

At first I thought his mouth was a moustache

Most recently, any scene in Tales of Graces F involving the POWER OF FRIENDSHIP (so 2/3 of all scenes)

sub-Barney and Friends grade morality without exaggeration

Lots of bits of the first Xenosaga.

So many "Wtf are you even taking about?" moments from the characters. All of them looking like dolls made it even more cringe-worthy when they were emoting or running or whatever.

I don't know why everyone ridicules this scene. It's done fairly well.

I think the main issue here is the tone of the series up till that point was pretty much 100% "LETS GO SHOOT AND STAB SOME ENEMIES, BRO", and then all of a sudden there is this sombre, emotional moment. The actual execution of the scene was OK.

It was done a lot better in Gears 3: for example, the Cole Flashback had the same overblown, partially tongue-in-cheek tone that Gears is known for, but it also was much more effective as an "emotional" moment.

I got grudge sucked!
As for my contribution, I guess it'd be Otacon in MGS4 PLOT SPOILERS
crying when Naomi died.

This really made me hate Otacon. He was pretty cool in MGS1 but just became more loathsome and pathetic in the next two games. If there is a new MGS and he's in it, I'd almost wish he'd die, except he'd be crying like a bitch while he did.

This as well.
At first I thought it was a joke, but then it got serious and BioWare fans made a lot of fuss because there was no ''sex scene'' in the game featuring both.

I liked how there was a choice to reply "wat" when they started asking questions about their relationships. Dunno about male shep voice, but femshep had a good reaction. :p

Star Ocean 4 still remains the only game that was so awkward and I was so embarrassed to play that about 10 hours in I literally just went "NOPE!", ejected the game out of the system, put it in its case, and drove directly to Gamestop to sell back.

The first game I sold back since the PS1 era. Haven't sold a game since.

Yeah, I don't know either, I really didn't think it was bad at all.

Perhaps it's the sudden attempt at emotional content in the middle of a hard edged sci-fi shooter? We're not talking high cinema here, but I really don't understand what it is about this scene that people find so terrible.

We were suppose to feel awkward for the characters, instead we felt that for the writers and voice actors.

It was a terribly done scene.

How would you have directed a scene where one character is awkwardly forcing himself to laugh and the most of rest of the party sits there in silence wondering what to say/do?

The only one I can think of is Shadow Hearts 2: (Big spoilers)
Yuri's attempt to revive Alice. It was supposed to be an emotional moment since it's been dragged from the ending of the first game, but Yuri's face animation in that scene completely ruins it. It's was so awkward and bad animated that made me feel very uncomfortable.

I still love the game to death though.

That Kingdom Hearts Little Mermaid shit. Ugh oh god

Just about any cutscene or monologue from Metroid: Other M. There's a lot to choose from, but even the very beginning of the game, with Samus zoned out on some sort of space dentist chair, is genuinely painful. "I had been reliving the tragic moments of my recent past." Tell me about it.

These are my picks.

A hard scene to watch is a hard scene to watch.

Also, the voice acting in that game is utter shit, especially tidus, and that scene highlights it. Was that also the intent of the game?

I give FFX a pass because it was their first time doing voice in an FF.

After XII, XIII had no excuse ending up the way it did.

FFXII's rabbit women

FFXIII-2's demo made me cringe from beginning to end. I can't imagine FFXIII, which I never played, being stupider than that.

Bu just about every game that have cut scenes and a serious story these days make me cringe, so.

Basically every cutscene in MGS4. I can't pick just one.
In before Final Fantasy X laughing scene by someone completely missing the point that it's supposed to be awkward.

I don't really care if it's supposed to be awkward or not; the end result is that it IS awkward and quite unpleasant to watch. I mean, if I say I don't want to go see a horror movie because it's scary you wouldn't try to convince me by saying "but it's SUPPOSED to be scary!"

Considering just about every scene in this thread is awkward because it's bad, it's pretty clear this is about scenes that are awkward unintentionally.

Every goddamn japanese game that isn't a nintendo family friendly one. Playing them alone is kind of ok, but i could never let somebody watch me playing one of those...i would feel like a pervert or something...

Heh I noticed something like this while going through RE4 again. Ashley grunts and groans like some japanese girl doing porn and it's incredibly awkward to listen to. I have to constantly mute the TV so no one gets the wrong idea.

Also staying on RE4 here. There's a few times in the game when someone dies and Leon does the super cliche scream the person's name really loud and dramatic thing.

Actually pretty much all of the dialogue in that game is terribly done. "Writhe in my cage of torment my friend"....*cringe*

Intro to Eternal Sonata where the girl is asking her mom stupid questions. Especially in English. Made me turn red out of embarrassment.
