Hello LEGO GAF anonymous I might have a problem....

;)
So I bought this set last week at a small toy shop in town and they asked me if I want it wrapped, as clearly nobody my age would buy such stuff for himself, so I compiled in order of having the double joy of unwrapping too xD

Mix the bags

Largest set so far I believe, lots and lots and lots of bricks, can't wait to dig into the build tomorrow :)

Aren't the tail fins meant to be tilted outwards?

Don't lego sets usually stick around for at least a year? I just discovered the 7187 Kingdoms set (Escape from Dragon's Prison) which came out in July 2011 at $19.99, but I took quick look around online and it's completely gone from everywhere and selling for twice that now. The fuck?

I finally got the complete set of Series 6 minifigs. I'm now tossing up whether to order the Series 7 ones overseas or wait till they arrive in Australia which apparently won't be until June-ish.

Also, inspired by some of the minifig photos being posted on here, I took a few shots of my Stormtroopers today.

I really don't like the look of this. Give me that USC Delorean

Agreed, but they'll rebuild it anyway.

I'd like a complete theme. Car, docs workshop etc. 1950s town square might be a challenge, but some good parts and you could MOC the modulars to work

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Delorean + Modular Western town. YEAAAAAAH.

EDIT: Yeah I never did support that delorean, not a fan at all I mean:

Such a plain design.

Well after a dismal failure of a first attempt at applying my custom Ghostbuster decals I've regrouped and tried again (the sealant I used the first time was causing the print to run)

Here's the results, dodgy phone photo incoming...

ghostbusters.jpg

I'm quite happy with the results but I'm tempted to go further with custom lego decals, custom faces and even hacking up a hairpiece to try and get bill murray's hairline and remove the sideburns from harold ramis's hair.

I also found this online which I will print out to use on the arms, even though it will be very tiny....

yeah the model itself is pretty crap, I supported it in the hope that LEGO would do a better job of it, the remote control one on there is much better though

Same really, I would much rather they did the UCS one but that might happen eventually. They re-design all the sets anyway so I'm hoping they'll do much better than that, or decide to expand it into a line later on.

Fantastic! I was going to say, I wouldn't go too crazy with custom faces because they look very "Lego" already, but you'd probably do a great job!

To the people who buy boxes of the minifigures: where do you normally sell them? Ebay?

Do you typically alter the prices of the individual figures based on their popularity?

It is, but I'd rather have a minifig-scale DeLorean.

This one from 2009 is already heaps better:

Yeah I'm very conscious of keeping them "LEGO" looking, I've seen a lot of custom stuff where they've gone too far with the detail or made faces that don't fit with the lego style, I'll definitely try new faces as I have some other spare heads floating around, so if I fuck it up it's no big deal. More detail on the legos and custom hair pieces though I'm not sure about.

I used to buy boxes but I've given up (I know buy complete sets), when I did sell them I sold off 3 sets per box first and any remaining I priced according to their rarity. Though the remaining minifigures after I've made 3 sets by default aren't that rare, I made most of my money on the sets themselves.

Around our house he is known as Lego-gobot and he is prone to both rap and dance.

We also got the Minotaur which scared/intrigued my seven year old so I had to explain to her that it's a mythological creature. I went on Wikipedia to show her and read the story, forgetting that the Minotaur is the result of a queen and a divine white bull getting busy. When the queen commissions Daedelus to construct a a wooden cow for the queen to climb into I wanted to bail out but my daughter forced me to read the rest of the story. Awk-ward!

I was in a similar situation with my 6 year old when we bought her Minotaurus. It was quite an abbreviated version of the story to explain the monster at the centre of the maze :)

Two and a half hours later.

Ok build but the other two building options seem far more interesting.
Just wanted to get the boring one our of the way first ;)

So what do you guys do while building Lego.
I had the tv running black books for a few episodes, but one really misses most of it as one doesn't pay attention to it.
Now I've been listening to podcasts which works ok, but even there I think I will have missed a lot. Alas I suppose that is to be expected.

Looking great. I especially love the logo.

All dat chrome makes it actually look cheap. Not really digging the model.

I've often wondered about a fully-chromed large model, hence my interest.

I agree about the chrome actually detracting from the model, and it makes me wonder how TLG could make a Naboo royal ship (either one)... pearlescent silver? SNOT?

This sounds like a weird criticism of the Naboo model, but it looks too Lego. I think to really pull that model off, especially with all the chrome, it needs to be lots of the curved pieces and with minimal exposed studs. I think if they used more pieces on top it would look smoother and more cohesive, much like the engines on the ends of the wings do.

Decent idea, but WAY too blocky to try and call a UCS set.

Yup

Yup

This attempt only has 300 pcs, so to be a true UCS they would have to triple or quadruple it. I think the engines are the best looking part of the model IMO, and I think it has to do with SNOT, so if they could make the entire model without exposed studs (like the sleek lines of the "actual" ship) and add more curved pieces (as you mentioned) to smooth out the jaggies, then maybe it could work. For TLG to chrome an entire model though may not be practical.

It would certainly be shiny. :)

But the top would have to be a nice mix of bricks like these:

And similarly styled. And then use some flat plates on top to hide the studs. Doing that and making it all chrome would probably look VERY nice, and show off the curves of the ship.

I don't think they make all of those pieces in chrome.

Fingers crossed there are some star wars deals on the UK site too, gonna hold out buying anything new until then.

It's tricky. I spent most of today sorting out Lego (we'd built up a couple of big boxes that needed clearing away). Podcasts are ok but like you say, you can't really pay attention fully. I think next time I'll watch a familiar tv show that I've already seen, so it doesn't matter if I'm not fully concentrating on it.

Feels good to have everything tidy, but I'm realising I don't have anywhere near enough space if I break down all the built sets. My four modulars would be close to 10,000 pieces in one hit, more if I buy the town hall or a second pet shop (thinking to have two houses next to each other, and change the pet shop into something else)

Maybe just keep the modulars Built for as long as possible - they do have some nice bricks though..

You are my hero!!!

Ghostbusters is my favorite movie of all time and I've been waiting for an official LEGO line forever... This will have to do for now.
