Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

These next two weeks will be agonizing.

All I can think about is Diablo this and Diablo that.

Ive started reading through the Book of Cain and the lore is absolutely amazing. I never thought I'd be hooked back into gaming so hard, but Blizzard get me every effing time.

The Wizard video is pretty good. Just makes the choice harder now. I was pretty set on Demon Hunter for awhile, but now it's a tossup between that and Wizard again, which was my first choice for a long time.

It'll definitely be one of those two, and a Barb probably second, before going back to a ranged character. Monk and Witch Doctor are definitely a tier below for me, at least in terms of aesthetics, not necessarily gameplay-wise.

Going to do one last run through later today of every class though before the beta goes dark.

I don't want to start anything, but that disintegrate is ripped straight out of Torchlight's Alchemist.

Pretty sure that spell has been in the game from before TL was even in full dev. Wizard was announced October '08, TL came out winter of '09 and was in development for about a year. Flagship collapsed in July of '08 and the team wasn't even formed for a few months.

That's the hilarious part of a 6 year development cycle vs a 1 year dev cycle.

Torchlight only took 1 year to develop? That's pretty amazing, never knew that.

Ok so I pre-ordered the CE off of Amazon. I haven't been charged for the purchase yet which has me worried that it may not come in time. Never used Amazon before, is this normal?

Yes - they charge you only after your purchase has been shipped.

Okay awesome, thank you. Can't wait to tear into that box once it comes and set that skull upon my desk.

Considering how small the game was though I'm surprised it even took that long.

Getting an environment to randomly generate without flaws would be a bit of a task. The levels design probably took the vast majority of the work. I'm surprised it didn't take them longer.

Man you guys have it easy, I sent the http://sorryformay15.com/ to my gf, and when she replied back, it said "I know what you're doing on May15, going to Hawaii for a WEEK!!!"

Somehow I totally forgot I booked a vacation to Hawaii May15 at 5am in the morning. The hype has me checking everyday for new news... Oh Diablo =/

Going on vacation to Hawaii for a week of constant diablo 3 playing sounds pretty sweet to me.

So, those of us having the issue with the downloader (it crashes and won't re-start) who have tried running it as admin and deleting the agent file...are we fucked come retail?

Buying the box might help but there will be patches. I can download anything from anyone except Blizzard (and only been an issue with them since Jan) yet it's somehow my problem not theirs....

It's better that's for sure but I still prefer D2's. It was more...artsy or something.

D2 was practically low res photos and art that was animated. Going 3D changes the styles that you get to work with, and I think D3 nailed it. I don't know if artsy is the right word, maybe raw?

CE looks very tempting, but I don't really think it's worth $100.

Getting D2 on a flash drive seems like a ripoff though, since someone likely buying the CE already has D2 to begin with.

Yeah I can't bring myself to get it either. I know most of the stuff would sit around collecting dust or in a drawer somewhere. In the end I'd be paying $40 extra for two dyes and a set of wings.

I couldn't justify the additional $40 for the CE. The artbook is going to be short to fit in the box (aren't they always?), and I know every last bit of behind the scenes content will be on youtube by the end of launch day. The soulstone USB drive is cool, but since I'll have D3, I don't really need D1 or D2. The angel wings are just funny.

On an unrelated note: The beta ends tonight, right? Time to spend my 200,000 gold frivolously.

I've waited 12 years for Diablo 3, it's pretty easy to justify the extra $40 for me.

The next two weeks are going to be absolutely painful.

208 pages on the artbook that's not too bad. :p

Yeah, I've had access to beta for so long now, not having any D3 fix is going to be shitty. It's probably just what we all need right now to get that pre-launch hype going extra strong.

As for the Collector's Edition, it's Diablo 3 so I didn't really see any other alternatives as options.

After watching the Wizard video, I just realized that they have run out of videos to release.

Which means that we are oh so close to release. Two weeks guys.

Looking over it, yeah 100 bucks is too much for what you get.

I'm interested in the USB and the avatar pics for b.net....but notn 40 dollars interested.

let see

All the extra, making of on a freaking blu-ray,the skull, soundtrack, free D1 and D2,art book, there is actually too much good stuff here for $99,it's really the best CE ever imho.

It's easily one of the highest values for a CE ive bought over the years and I buy alot of them. Average price for a physical CE is actually about 120 bucks and they usually have less stuff then this has by quite a bit.

Blizzard CE are usually extremely good value and just the codes within them can be resold later on for a huge profit.

Plus it's all of very high quality and not just some cheap stapled artbook, if Starcraft 2 and WoW are any indication of quality.

I meant literally short, unless they make the box taller to accommodate a more standard coffee table sized book.

I've got a ton of mini-artbooks from CE's sitting around. I never look at them.

SC2's artbook was a proper A4 hardback with a printed dust cover (with a sweet robed skeleton on the back)

I know what you're worried about, CE artbooks tend to be dogshit little things printed on repurposed toilet paper. not this one though, i'm positive on that.

Wings and dyes really made me consider dropping forty bucks, but there's about three or four games I'm buying that month with D3. :/
