What's "Black Ops" about fucking future helicopters in the sky? Seems pretty open warfare to me.

I would hope in the CoD game they win. Using high tech shit against the scummy unwashed masses sounds like fun.

And now we have too much of a story for a CoD game.

I think they should get meta and just call the good guys 'the good guys' and refer to the enemy as 'the bad guys'.

I'd rather they didn't, with the next-generation of consoles on the horizon I would prefer they put work into getting ready for them with an engine that can be sustained properly than trying to get better graphics out of what they have already.

Some people can't see the difference, but I personally love how smooth CoD has been with keeping it at 60FPS and it would be a damn shame if they went against that in the game of graphics.

Did you see how much trolling they got on youtube comments, vs BF3, on how allegedly crap their graphics looked, and how bad they need a new graphics engine?

And I do think BF3 took a bite out of them too.

Though I actually think, if the whole market is struggling as it is, COD might actually be doing better relatively, by losing less sales than the market. Still, no denying BF3 took a bite on them.

I'm a graphics whore so I've advocated it for years, but I understood that as long as it was killing in sales it was unwise to change the winning formula. But now there is an opening...

I of course assume they would keep 60 FPS for multiplayer.

I thought Black Ops was all set to be in the past, and Modern Warfare was.. well set in modern times.

Seems like they've jumped a few decades ahead instead..

Put everyone in space marine armor that covers everything. Good guys wear red, bad guys wear blue.

Are you seriously making that an argument?

Did you play the first Black Ops?

Yeah I did, but I was kind of joking. There definitely were "covert" ops... on a bit of an explosive scale. This just seems like all out battles, ala Modern Warfare.

Also, Mason and his son. Calling it.

Future warfare intrigues me but I dropped this series 3 years ago due to fatigue so they'll really have to show me something with this one to get me back in. Hopefully they've made changes to the game of laser tag that is Call of Duty gunplay and made the guns sound, look, and feel mean for once or I'll likely end up sitting this one out again.

Near future? Don't we have modern warfare 3 already? I was hoping they would stick with the 60s stuff with Black Ops :/ Never was a fan of high-tech gadgets and that stuff. Oh well, will see how this pans out.

You've got a 4890, you can't even run BF3 at medium settings yet you still bitch about COD graphics acting like you play every PC game at 1080p 60FPS Max settings. Your act is getting really tireing and would be tolerable if I didn't know that you were making up pretty much everything you were spewing.

Ghosts of Duty: Battlefield Reconfighter the Line

but seriously, I have enjoyed the last 2 Treyarch games, WaW & Blops. But a lot of that was the setting, another near future military shooter seems like kind of a let down, maybe it will surprise me.

Halo 4 and CodBlops2 in back to back weeks to start November should be... crazy...

I loved Black Ops, seriously. Multiplayer that is, don't give a crap about single player (although I did play it because of my love for the multi and found it boring/laughable lol).

MW3 soured me very badly (ugh) so I'm done with IW but I still believe in Treyarch because of how much I loved the first Black Ops..... we'll see, they have a bit to live up to and with the stupid subscription thing etc Activision are risking ruining the whole thing for me even if multi is fun again.

As far as the setting, well, I don't know what to think really. I hope its a bit more grounded in 'near future' as apposed to like SPACE HALO etc shit.

Dunno whether it could provide a clue to the story, but the guy on the cover has the US flag on his arm.

not really. q3 engine was the base, but that was a long time ago. treyarch and iw use different versions of the engine. they started with the mw1 engine and developed on their own.

Check your retail boxes, dude. "Uses iD Technology. (C)Year iD Software..." it's still using Q3A's engine, no matter how much they "b-b-but we" change(d) the "physics, animation, lighting systems!"

In fact, go mod your save files for multiplayer and go into a private match. Have /cg_drawFPS 1 along with a few Infinity Ward added CVARs while turning the ping notification back on.

Notice how all the weapons are hitscan and feel like the Q3A railgun? Yeah, that's the Q3A engine still, dude.

BF3 of course looked awesome, though I thought it's SP was pretty terrible, and it is nice that CoD finally had some proper competition because that can only lead to better games for us.

It isn't that I don't want a really nice looking CoD, because I would love it to have both BF3 visuals with 60FPS in one package.
But I would hope that instead of doing it now that they concentrate on sorting themselves out for next-gen, while I don't think they will stop developing for current gen consoles any time soon after we get new consoles due to the existing install base I really hope they sort themselves out engine wise with something that not only can take advantage of the new hardware but that can be pushed and expanded more than what we have seen between their current sequels.

Of course they have to mention it uses iD tech. No matter how much they modify it, the engine wouldn't be their own. To say it's the Quake 3 engine however, as if it's the same exact one from '99 is ludicrous. It's so unlikely what it was, they call it the IW Engine and that isn't so crazy to accept when looking at their final work.

Have they claimed it's fully theirs and don't give credit to iD anymore? I don't understand the snark.

As long as they have futuristic Sticks & Stones, I'm there day -1.

+ dedis on PC.

I'm trying to understand the people who recognise Black Ops had a bad campaign but somehow know this sequel will be better just because of a different setting. Those people who go to CoD for the single-player, instead of straight to MP.
I could cherry pick a level from just about any linear FPS in which I abuse friendly AI to progress through a level without shooting.

"The engine itself is proprietary with inclusion of GtkRadiant by id Software."

But please, keep fighting the good fight.

Please please PLEASE please treyarch if any programmer or something reads this.

MAKE SURE THE PS3 VERSION IS UP TO SNUFF, FUCKING DO IT.

I want to get this, but it's really not fair to people who don't like low blurry resolution and shitty framerate. A lot of people buy the PS3 version, make a real effort to make it as well as the 360 version. I don't like Infinity Ward but they manage to make good PS3 versions. Just do whatever they do.

If this is going to be in the future, then I am slightly interested.
That's where I was at, then I realized it's only going to be slightly in the future and I'm sure the multiplayer is going to be all infantry with very similar weapons that we have used a hundred times before. I want to actually fly the super cool quad-chopper :(

Hopefully one day EA decides to release 2143.

Future could be interesting. I took last year off from MW3, the only CoD I haven't played, due to franchise fatigue but if they do some cool stuff with the future setting I might be back in.

What a huge slap in the face for Respawn Entertainment.

By the time their game comes out, there will be 3 more iterations of "future warfare" cod games out in the market. xD

Judging by their past efforts it won't change anytime soon. They're not going to re-build a game engine just for one system.

Except it's still the same railgun twitch gameplay that Q3A had. There's no bullet travel like Battlefield has. The physics feel like a cvar tweak instead of a totally different mechanic (I'll get them a slight benefit of doubt they changed/modded this since there's no air physics or rocketjumps, obviously).

Have they claimed it's fully theirs and don't give credit to iD anymore? I don't understand the snark.

Treyarch poster here two years ago: "We changed the physics and lighting systems! It's a completely new engine!"
Me: "Uh, dude, you may have taken some things out and added a few new things. But under the hood it's still the Q3A engine. No matter how much you protest it isn't."

And until they stop having hit scan no-recoil "modern" guns, it's always going to be regarded as the Q3A engine to me because the guns feel like the Q3A railgun. Even the sniper rifle.

In fact, Carmack remarked on this with a "you know your engine is good if it's still being used 10 years later" remark. So...
