2 places I didn't even go to while leveling: Azarel's Labyrinth and Pirate Grotto. The game spams XP at you like it's going out of style, and you can skip areas you'd rather not go to quite easily.

Next time I want to skip all of popolion (brown boring area on way to SM) and the deserts (esp the boring mines and ruins), but it seems they're needed. What are alternatives?

Overall I enjoy my time but I can see this game getting replaced in the near future. They just didn't push the envelope enough for me. I'll dabble here and there and hell maybe at later levels I'll fall in love.

Yeah, only going to level 11 really doesn't give you a feel for what the game truly feels like eventually, as soon as level 22-24.

Generally my experience is a controller is pretty good for the melee classes but not so much for anything that requires precision aiming (ie archers). The main problem is that you still need access to the face buttons for your abilities WHILE you're aiming with the right stick which is a pain. It's not impossible but it's not ideal either. The melee classes don't need that precision though so controller works great for them.

EDIT: Forgot to mention your controller binding reflects your hotbars so changing anything there will change your controller buttons as well. I think you can drag actions directly to the controller UI (which shows up on the screen like the hotbar and can be turned off) but honestly I've never tried.

hmmm, i didnt realize that for archers, your right......maybe i can bind the controller keys like a TPS game....i dunno....I guess I can just invest on a wrist pad for the time being.

Click the "activites" button while in game, then select "item claim"

activities button..... didnt see that in the tutorial section yet, I will try that once i finish from work, thanks a lot!

Sorcerer: One of my favorites so far. squishy yes but the damage output is great and you can dodge and run around.
Warrior: As they this seems to be the hardest class to get used to. i love the feel but getting in sync is tough
Lancer: The toughest by far. The only class where I've died. Several time in fact. I have a feeling they get better and are group focused but solo you have to be methodical. The block is a little bit misleading. Sometime you take zero damage and other time you'll still take damage.
Slayer: Roll around and stabby. Fun quick class to play but not tank and spank.
Mystic: Fun diverse class but I think the pets are retarded. Seems like wasted time, effort and coding. This the one class that's very different from the others.

You forgot Archer. ;)

Regarding Lancer, you really can't solo much. I mean, you can, but it's tough to solo at-level stuff, and very challenging to solo above-level content. Blocking is controlled by your weapon and how much damage it can actually absorb. Sometimes, the damage goes over that threshold, and you take the residual damage. Others, you just are at a bad angle. It's....tough.

You made some good points overall (about the game itself), and I'm hoping they continue to elaborate on what they've presented. Done right, I think TERA can flourish. Being P2P is a good step towards pushing development really. If I see my subscription being put to good use, I'll continue to give them my money (assuming I enjoy the game, ha).

who is Emo-Beas?
Level 43 atm on the new continent questing through a snow area. This game gets graphically more amazing as you level up.

The challenge of doing the instances at the lowest level is fun as hell. Looted 2 gold items in my first run for the Dark Cathedral!

One thing I noticed last night is that even the tiniest bit of lag causing a delay between button presses and the action taking place is pretty much the worst thing ever in this game.

I'm assuming the golden weapon skins can be applied an unlimited number of times?

Also, my download will be done in about 3 hours. A friend and I will both be playing on Dragonfall :D. Look forward to meeting some of you.

They can be redeemed an infinite number of times on any character(s) you have on any server(s).

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Questions:

1) I can't find the golden weapon skins in my item claim, I upgraded from a buddy code to a full account yesterday, the fact that I"m playing should mean that it worked right?
2) Which SMAA injector do I use, DX9 or DX10? Because I'm not seeing any difference. And the lighting enrichment thing is set to 1.

From my understanding, they don't click in until your subscription starts. So no one will get them until the end of this month.

Use DX9 because this is not a DX10 game.

SMAA off

SMAA on

it's quite obvious and has better performance than FXAA or normal AA

Use the Dx9 one, you should see the edge of building or far away tree to be more smooth, trigger it on/off with Pause key on your keyboard.

Ok folks, PVP server is the only way to go. On Feral Valley, having a blast! If you are on the edge about going to a pvp server, don't be. The gank levels aren't that bad, you have multiple channels, and it just adds another awesome element to the game.

The other day a level 30 slayer tried to gank my level 28 sorc when I was killing quest mobs. We had a pretty epic battle for about 2 minutes straight it came down to a final blow... we were both at about 200hp and he hit me with one of his aoe slashes as I was kiting him. I had only a second left on my ice needle cooldown and I would have won the fight if I could have hit him with it. Anyways, even though I died and had to make my way back to the quest area... it was a lot of fun and it didn't bother me at all.

I love how there's no "Holy Trinity" shenanigans in TERA. Having BAMs along with the battle mechanics makes everything sooo much fun. I mean, you'll still need healing in instances, of course. But it's nice to know you can quest with heavy reliance on healers. :D

All I want now is some awesome Twin Swords from SM...

We're going! But we're on Valley of Titans. Come join your fellow redditors. :) Hopefully the queue will die down soon...

The queues are still there but not that extreme any more. Seems like they're getting better every day. Hopefully they'll be a non-issue soon.

There was a 70 minute queue last night so I'm guessing the long queues will probably continue for a while. With the new server and server transfers live, it seems to be improving though.

If your time is limited, you can roll on any other PVP server and then do a free server transfer in a week or two when the populations stabilize.

I got a bad jonesin to play this game, but if I get it while I'm trying to study I'll never pass. I'm gonna have to live vicariously through you guys for awhile!

I have grad class after work at 5, so I can't touch it until 9'ish :'(

Hold me...

As a side note: I made my first alt last night: A popori lancer! I think I'll re-do him as an Aman because their racials seem better for tanks.

This is my plan. Will see you all on VoT in a few weeks when it dies down a bit.

I love how tactical the combat can be in pvp. Spazing out = death against anyone with skill. Love it!

I would like to add that in general most melee classes don't require as much precision as the ranged classes, but I think its important to point out that lancer would probably require quite a bit more than most melees with its emphasis on straight-line attacks (with essentially no lateral area of effect) and leash (integral for interrupting many dangerous BAM moves), as well as the importance of getting a good angle with its shield block. For the above 2 reasons I wouldn't quite say never use a controller, but it is important to think about how accurate you are with one if you ever decide to play a lancer.

Also, in regards to difficulties playing lancer, I've only experienced one situation where taking damage from blocking wasn't related to the facing of my shield or timing/lag when I was blocking (facing the bonus BAM in Cultist's Refuge).

Thus if you're having problems taking damage with a lancer, it is probably important to check your facing and timing/lag first than to blame it on the attack going through your shield. Against single mobs there shouldn't usually too much of an issue, but a lancer definitely has some issues against groups of many mobs as those will tend to spread out around the lancer. Lancer probably has the hardest time of all the classes with large groups of mobs when soloing as its aoe potential is probably the worst of all the classes, but as long as you're looking out for the major attacks of accompanying normal mobs, or just making sure not to over-extend yourself, you should usually still come out on top.

In general however, I have never had a problem soloing any of the content (besides 5 man dungeons of course) up to level 42 (including most BAM quests, although those will take FOREVER solo to the point it is faster to get two BAMs on you to kill each other than to actually kill them yourself). Getting a partner with good aoe and dps for duo like a sorceror or beserker would definitely make things alot faster though...

I'm at lvl 31 and currently have Blood & Gore +3. Is it worth it for me to carry on in SM in the hopes of getting Fear & Tremble or should I just move on?

Where did you extract the files to? Tera\Client\Binaries? I can't get mine to work, at least I don't think it is as the toggle with pause does nothing.
Yeah, Binaries.

Where am I supposed to find dungeons? I'm level 18 and all I did was boring quests and ONE dungeon with a unique mob, the demon thing on the very first island you begin your adventure on. When I click the instance matchmaking icon there's nothing, and if I don't find something else to do than these very repetitive quests I might as well stop playing right now because honestly, the quests are what I loathe most about MMOs in general - they always suck big time : kill X, fetch Y, escort Z, rince and repeat.

First real dungeon is lv 22..

next one is lv 27..

Once you hit the 20s the mobs become more interesting.. as you get to fight BAMs (big ass monsters) in a group or solo.. quests are still repetitive though... and will continue to be for much of the game. TERA does nothing new in terms of quest design from most other mmorpgs.

You can queue for it starting at level 20.

I'm set for release in EU, finally got to the level cap of 38 a half-hour ago. Got some quests to turn in for release (don't want to waste that much XP) and it'll supposedly mean that I've finished all Lake of Tears quests and will finally go to the zone Cultists' refuge is located in.

I hope that at release Hungry Caverns and Castanica will be populated because there was no NPCs nor enemies in sight and I don't like leaving a zone without every part complete.
