Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

There will be a lot of armor perms for you to pick from and customize.
Good to hear, I do hope they are spread out better and have more variety than Reach.

Anybody else want to see some of the old concept art armor for MC ? I would love to see some of those fully realized.. And while im at it, I hope we can get things like the live action armor.

We should make this happen over the weekend. Yes.
That would be awesome. While you are at it, give all zombies pestilence.

Well we haven't seen any of the gameplay, save what we extrapolate from MP and these CoD esc quick time interactions (jury's out), so the only thing that's giving me pause right now is the unknown.
I'm not assuming it's good or bad.

However artistically I've found some bits of 343's work so far ..questionable (both in Halo 4 and Halo Anniversary) and worry how that'll translate to everything else.
I remember reading about quick time events. Is that confirmed? smh if so.

No shields gametype along with small map to maximize "Yays" and confetti.
Haha, yes.

Totally unrelated to GBP aspirations, but I've also been wanting to try a game of Slayer where each player has limited lives. That's possible in Reach, right? I think it would add a lot of tension and force careful, methodical play. It would probably end up being boring once most people run out of lives, but I'm still curious how it would play out.

Holy shit, I completely forgot about something I saw in the campaign demo that I MEANT to talk about, but spaced on until I read this sentence!

So there's this scene where Chief actually climbs up some broken scaffolding - hand-over-hand stuff, like I'm playing Uncharted or something. And I ask Frank (who's controlling the character) "this isn't going to be one of those things where you throw in a new mechanic, we play with it once at the beginning of the game, and then we never see it again, right?" He says no, these skills will be used throughout the game.

It had the same weird (weird to me, anyway) look as the prying-open-the-doors scene in the First Look trailer - in fact, you can see a second or so of the actual climb (with MUCH less detail to the environment) in that clip, right after the doors open. It's not a QTE - you're actually controlling the Chief at that point, and if you stop climbing, you'll fall.

Can't believe I forgot about that!

I believe it was implied before, but doesn't Mig pretty much say that they have the MW2 ice-climb except, and as I guessed last year it's the Chief climbing through the Forward Unto Dawn, which we saw in an early state earlier this year.

Edit: Royally trounced by Wu. How do I compete with that?

Is he a big Reach fan?

What's this? I don't even...

Oh hi, first post.

I was a Halo CE fan. Then I became a Halo 2 fan. At some point I was a Halo 3 fan. Halo ODST snuggled with me for a while. Then Halo Reach took the ring. For a while there I was a Halo Anniversary fan. Oh yes, Halo Wars is no where on that list. Sorry.

This was the problem when I wanted to write something about what I experienced. I wanna give you all something to mull over, but at the end I'm not like your typical player. I can get upset over stuff, but I let it slide after a while. So yah, seeing Cortana doing the Tom Cruise floating window thingie was off putting, but 'da fuck, It's Cortana! In all her glowing blue tit self! Let's get this thing going! No different then the Elites talking classical bad-guy English in Halo 2 nor the damn rocket-deodorant sticks under Pillar of Autumn in Reach.

I can see how folks are going to look at a few levels and see some COD similarities, but I'm not someone that right off says "BOO that sucks!" I wanna see what they do with it. As I said, after a few games I got into it. "More immersion"? Hearing Chief breathe? Do I really want that in full-on 5.1? But I'm curious how it'll play out. With MP, it was pretty fucking cool to jump around in the beta maps, with that MLG dude schooling us and us schooling some of the NFL dudes. I really couldn't complain. I'll wait until the very end when the game finally ships to say yay or nay, but I guess what I was trying to get folks to brace themselves for is that if it *does* turn out to be a big change, soak it in... see what you think. Don't just be a knee-jerk jerk! It's unrealistic to think new devs aren't going to want to change things up. THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S BAD CHANGE!

Claude said something that I thought was pretty cool. He may have relayed it in some of his other posts here or elsewhere, so sorry for repeating: he met some folks at the event that were super psyched. They said they were tired of Halo being the same old Halo... they had left the game maybe around Halo 3. And playing this got them excited. I think Frankie would like to hear that. We don't all live on an island and get to permanently carry the conch shell. Take a breath folks and lets see what the folks at 343i put out.

What's not going to surprise me is if some folks read the above and say "That's it! I'm outta here. The game is fucked. It's all a mess!" I can't do anything about spurring such dick-ishness. But I think you're being a fool. A dick-fool at that.

That's a nice post and all but why my quote? I was (and others too) legitimately trying to get some perspective on your opinion.

I'm hoping this time we get to swap entire body armor parts, and not just tiny redundant ugly attachements on top of the base armor.

I would point out these moments are rare and only happen during events that are things you can't normally do physically. The first level has a couple of them to "train" you, but they won't be frequent or presented as QTE problems. They're transitional or cinematic vignettes that don't yank you out of the action. Also, if you don't smash that Elite he tosses you down the shaft.

Like in MW2 where you have to hack into the ice by using -If I recall correctly- left and right trigger? That's pretty much a QTE though.

can you elaborate on what you mean by that? was the first level somehow influenced by cod? or did you mean multiplayer maps?

Sounds awesome. How forgiving is that? Do difficulties affect it?

These use "game controls" - they don't introduce custom elements like that. The one Claude was talking about is a fancy ladder, effectively.

Even better.

With gameplay like that, especially in first person, I think you either go Heavy Rain, where you emulate the in-game action as best you can or you make it as similar as possible to the rest of the game logic.

Speaking in other-game talk, the MW2 moment ends with a Doom3 moment. It was very well done and a good show of how much you folks are tweaking that new engine to just about vomit rainbows and gold. The Elite's mandibles never looked so slimy and sexy at the same time.

Oh hi, first post.
You sound like a level-headed guy that's open to a certain amount of change for the betterment of a game. You'll be hated here. ;-)

The scene Claude described. Our first person view up until now has been a 'traditional' one. When we would barrel roll, our 'eyes' didn't go all screwy. Now during this one scene the camera becomes our true eyes, you see your hands grasping at things, you look down at the floor as you prop yourself back up. That's what lent itself to what I'm calling the Doom3 moment when the Elite just scares the shit out of you if you weren't expecting it. And the light effects, shadows, etc.

Other points are the HUD. And I don't mean a direct link to COD... just what other modern shooters are doing - cramming alot of info, very HD, very "realistic" and an evolution from what we've had before.

I gotta jet but I'll try to post more if folks are still interested later in the day.
