Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

Sooo THQ has no booth at E3 this year. Given they will still be showing stuff off at E3, I'd bank on something being shown at one (if not more) of the big three conferences. Homefront 2 at Nintendo's is my guess.

Could be good if Nintendo gets some exclusive stuff for the game.
That or Darksiders 2.

Guys, i thought I was excited before. I dont post as often as you guys, but i always have a tab on this thread, either at work or at home.

I understand giddy hype. A week before DE:HR, i became obsessed. Knowing that game was coming so close ruined games for me until release. But i had yet to feel that way for the Wii U. Its a nintendo console, its a no brainer i will own it, unlike DE:HR of which was a mystical unknown property to me. I barely knew anything about the series even at that point.

But ideamans post that there is something major that nintendo has kept secret even from major partners, got me to the next level. It gave me that mystery element i needed to go super saiyan. Thoughts and dreams are running rampant through my head. The idea of a major bomb, like android on my screen in game with all the features that brings, has got me crazy excited even if it doesnt pan out. The kind of excitement that usually only comes the weekend before E3, or Christmas eve when i was younger.

So thank you WUST gang. This ride has been amazing.

Glad to make you feeling that way :p
But don't expect TOO much heh, don't jump to crazy fantasies of holographic screen, haptic, rumble suit to wear, a 5x increase of performances starting from a base already equal to 5x Xbox360, etc.

<underpowered Wii U rumors> IdeaMan <5x Xbox 360 with huge kept hidden features on the controller>

I want to help building the hype until E3 (because some bad rumors weakened it for a considerable portion of hardcore gamers following the news) but also keep some expectations in check.

Tom, Tom, Tom... GEEZ!

:p
Wanna know something really impressive and sad?

I did a full move across town, worked an average of 55 hours per week, beat two more games, and had a bit of a family emergency.. and still managed to live here.

Then again, I'm always here. I sleep with the iPad on my nightstand, sometimes waking to check "The Thread" in the middle of the night. I'm in here all day at work also; since I'm sitting in a control booth all day (with the patients being brought to me), I listen to the radio (or, just as often, Nintendo-centric podcasts) and hang-out here at GAF all day long. Tab #1 is always on this thread.

It's Launch Year Fever for me. I've become obsessed. But I'm trying to keep my wits about me. Only my partner knows about my Launch Fever; other family members and co-workers know nothing of this, other than the fact that "Tom has lots of vacation time that's being used in later on in the year." HylianGreg (who was the spittin' image of Adult Link when he was younger) isn't much of a gamer, but he is quite an enabler since he's seen the difference in my happiness levels over the past 15 years as my gaming-related time waxes and wanes.

I ramble. Got the fever, Love E3. And I'm glad you guys & gals don't nominate me to do the OP. I'd make it much too feisty anyway.

I think something from THQ is pretty much guaranteed. Darksiders 2 is coming, Metro: Last Light seems to be coming, and obviously Homefront 2 is coming. THQ is banking on massive Wii U support, latching on to new system hype, to help dig them out of their financial hole. Makes sense, so yeah. Given THQ's backing of the system, and Nintendo's promotion of third party titles, I'd put money on something THQ related showing up.

That doesn't mean it will be exclusive, timed or otherwise, or even have exclusive content though. Could simply be a multiplatform title demonstrating the value the pad can add to a game found everywhere else, or the first 'reveal' of a new game (eg: Homefront 2).

Either way, I bet they'll be there.

Wouldn't Metro make more sense?

Dunno. Metro isn't a big franchise I predict Last Light will sell like ass. Cytek's Call of Duty clone seems like the right class of silly Nintendo would want at their conference. Crytek and CryEngine 3 are much bigger names than 4A Games.

I think Nintendo will choose one title, and promise to front the entirety of marketing for the Wii U version, and in exchange, they'll get some exclusive content.
Likely whichever they deem most sellable (and I see that as DS2 on the Wii U, they could add something simple like Nintendo character costumes).

This will likely also be true for Batman: AC.

It wouldn't surprise me if the U gets "the definitive version" of Darksiders 2, and Nintendo in turn helps with a hefty advertising campaign. THQ would defnitely appreciate that kind of support, and Nintendo would have a good action-adventure game available on Launch Day.
(edit.. and Ace is too fast for me! drat. wake-up Tom!)

Most likely yeah. Pubs love their stupid 'exclusive costume' shit. We'll probably see a lot of ot on the Wii.

This is likely for all THQ games, marketing the Wii U version as 'definitive', if just in name.

Nintendo has money to spare and wants partner with 3rd parties, and if a big 3rd party needs money right now, it'd be THQ. I could see Nintendo producing a game with one of THQs prominent studios, possibly with the option to buy the studio. Similar to the deals they have with KoeiTecmo or the Monolith situation.

They basicly confirmed it

Financially beleaguered publisher THQ will not have the big presence at this year's E3 Expo that it's had in the past. A spokesperson for the company told GamesIndustry International that there will be no THQ booth this year, but the publisher will still very much have a presence in a slightly more limited capacity.

"We're not producing a booth, but we will be participating in E3. We will be showing games to the E3 judges at their event coming up, and we'll be hosting a press and business center at the show for meetings (as well as participating with first party activities)," THQ told us.

So I'd say THQ is banking on the assistance of Nintendo, Sony or MS in showing of Darksiders II and Homefront 2.

Btw, the OFLC just rated the game "Rabbids Rumble" from Ubisoft.

Yeah, timeline went like this:

IdeaMan: What I'm hearing about the software layer is unknown but impressive.

Matt: The OS will be amazing. I can't say why.

Half of WUST: Who's that? I believe him already!

The Other Half: Just some Google employee. Oh, wait!

IdeaMan: Huh, looks like this guy confirmed stuff I've heard. Obviously, this proves that I had secret information all along, amirite guys?

BlackNMild2k1: By the way, a couple years ago I made an awesome post showing how Nintendo has been pretty openly designing an operating system. Their head programmer now works for Google, and the project is currently copyrighted by both Nintendo and Google.

Some Random Person: Ugh, why is there ever any news in this stupid thread?!?!?

I didn't say impressive, you're masquerading me like a teasing <censored> that just unleashed an insufferable "hey i know stuff about the OS but can't tell you, lalalala" ><

I wrote a message about dev kits, legal stuff, "warranty" seals, some specs displayed during boot, also available on SDK documentations, Nintendo policy with third-parties (to explain how it would be very unlikely that MS or Sony could create a fake studio to receive dev kits and dissect them), with a little hint at the end to illustrate this "inner circle" approach where the more close you are to Big N, the more you know (and therefore, third-parties aren't aware of all the details of some big aspects of the system)

1 page and half later, i gave the answer to the hint:

It doesn't exclude the possibility that this software layer will disappoint some, that if third-parties know far less about it that the rest of the system, it's primarily because Nintendo is currently hard working to design and implement it, etc. BUT, as it's the main area (i include online features into it) just vaguely known by foreign studios (well, maybe with the storage approach of Big N, a new little data btw :p), it means most of the surprises will come from it. That + they are aware that Nintendo consider this aspect very seriously (what they know of the expected features, the total memory dedicated to this for the moment, the forewords of Nintendo, etc.).

Yeah. The two go hand in hand, really.

Well, they will be the definitive versions if they use the controller and people think they do in a good way.

Every third party game on the Wii U that uses the controller has exclusive features!!!

As I do most of my gaming on PC, I generally consider the PC version to be 'definitive'. Very interested to see how much the Wii U pad actually adds to THQ's multiplatform games.

Well, there you go! I should actually try reading articles next time.

This.
Major leaks/updates will generate major threads and this one will soon die....

...and it's about damn time, too!

Yeah, with yourself prominently in the OP

Hey, I just asked for help with the banners and logos.
It was you guys that made them with me as Lupin.

I hope they show Homefront 2 so this "Wii U can't run CryEngine 3" nonsense will end, but I also want to see DS2 because I actually want that game.

I have a feeling that right away, you are going to see novel and arguably game altering(if not gamechanging) uses of the controller but after the initial showings(E3), the controller is going to be taken advantage of similarly to the Wii Remote.

So basically, some really great uses of it but the majority using it for uninspired shit like maps and HUDs.

That would actually make many gamers happy but I'd rather see more ambitious uses for it like Ubi is doing for Killer Freaks from Outer Space.

Most likely yeah. For me, any multiplatform game I really want I'll be getting on PC, eg Metro: Last Light. The Wii U version will be interesting, but I'm expecting lots and lots of pretty pointless gimmicks. And that isn't enough.

I'm hoping there's some big surprises though. Really interesting use of the pad outside of exclusives. If they can sell me on the Wii U version of a game I can get on PC, I'll be very impressed.

Ok, I have material ready for the next iteration of the thread. Should there be some tag line or should we go clean?

I think if any THQ game is featured especially at Nintendo's conference it'll be the unannounced exclusive rather than a multi-platform game like Darksiders 2 or Metro: Last Light.

Was it THQ or another company that had a Wii U Exclusive listed on their job postings?

Of course there needs to be a tag line.
And it needs to be perfect.

It was THQ, some pages ago we speculated here that this exclusive may also be linked to a trademark of the name '1666', which I personally thought may be Patrice Desilets' new game (the creator of Assassin's Creed). I wouldn't be surprised at all if this turned out to be the case and Nintendo is co-publishing a high-profile game with THQ, we'll see I guess.
