DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Jesus, this is going to take a ridiculously long time to download. The download keeps getting suspended, then continues after a few minutes at an incredibly low speed.

Then I still have Operation Arrowhead to get :(

I have decided to become a fully fledged bandit.

I started last night by hunting survivors along the southern roads. I was approaching a town when I heard gunshots, I decided to lay low in the tree line until I could see who I was dealing with. Eventually I could see it was a single person called Alex and he was heading my way. I stayed prone until he passed me and then I started stalking him. I tracked him for a good 30 minutes, always at a distance of around 200-300 meters. He eventually came to a stop at the end of a pier on the outskirts of a village and started chatting to his buddies, arranging to meet. As I started crawling to get into range for a shot with my winchester the server admin announced the server was going down. Annoyed, I just started firing at him, he hit the deck and typed "Wait! I think someone... Oh no!" In the last few seconds I noticed he was bleeding and spinning wildly firing his pistol. Then the server went down.

Any idea why I get stuk with black screen "wating server response". The game seems on a that point as I can see the chat and my pc fans are full on, and if I press "Escape" I get the option to respawn.

Part of the jank unfortunately, sometimes it'll work and sometimes it wont, happens to me all the time.

One major thing I don't like about this is the real-time day/night cycle. Suck when I can only play this late evening and it's always nigth time.

Also, just realised pressing V lets you vault over low walls and fences.

I would genuinely feel bad about murdering someone, unless it's self defense against a bandit.

Holy cow that was an epic four hour session!

Ended up going through Elektra, all of us with no ammo. All of us needing blood. Sprinting through town, finding the corpse of a bandit. Stripping it bare, hitting the grocerie story and finding two bandit and two survivor corpses, strpping those bare. Hitting the town all guns-a-blazing. A bandit poped out and took a shot at Alpha, I jumped infront of his bullets and headshotted him. Picked up a sniper rifle and cleared the place of loot - I got a swanky watch to match my compass.
We decide to head to the hospital in hopes of finding blood, and it's only around the corner. We can't open the door and zombies start to swarm us, we hold them off for a few seconds and then sniper shots gun us down.

I...I think I'm going to go bandit. Every survivor I've stumbled across does something stupid to doom us. I can only trust myself, it feels like.

Just finished watching the full archive of that Criken stream which was linked a bunch.

http://www.twitch.tv/criken/b/317272124
skip to ~51 minutes in for them finally finding a playable server, then it's a four hour zombie/murder movie.

Funny how it starts off quite light-hearted and full of dicking around, then at some point they all kinda realise that they're invested fully in the situation. Great ending too.

This sounds awesome, will have to watch some of these videos when I get off work.

Wish I owned ARMA 2, hopefully we will see this mode on the 3rd game.

No, just a survivor. I do feel bad but I have become so untrustworthy of other players that I'm soloing it anyway, figured that instead of constantly entering towns to scavenge (which is a big risk on my own), I would harvest other players as I travel along the main roads and sneak off back into the woods. It's a dog eat dog world.

That's just great. As if I wasn't suspicious of bandit skins already. :p

I can't stop thinking about this. I dreamed about it last night. Every time I get a second of freedom my brain goes right to this game.

I think I'll end up buying ARMA this week.

I'd like to see a mod like this for the Stalker universe. I wonder if having to worry about being infected and actually possibly turning could be added to the mod...or if it would be a fun addition.

I was so obsessed with watching these videos that I ended up playing Shadow Over Chernobyl again for the first time in six months.

Yep yep. I've had with losing hours of progress because I group with people who end up causing my death.

I feel like in the end, when any situation turns to shit, survivor groups fall apart pretty quickly. Most just scatter in order to save their lives. I always find it funny that if anyone dies in any group, everyone immediately gather around the body looting it. I just witnessed a guy trying to prevent people from the same group from looting his friends body, in Stary Sobor.

It all just boils down to survival, so if I see something I want, why not just take it right away instead of putting a facade?

WHY DONT I HAVE A GAMING PC

I agree with you! Or I have one, but it's dead and I don't have money to fix it. It's mocking me from my closet. Using an oooooold PC now.

Want to play this so badly. Would love to run in a group with you guys.

Also have some "bad" ideas of how to create a band of misfits where a couple are bandits while others are survivors. And the bandits always hide slightly behind, ready to kill unknown passer-by's while the survivors act like they are helping out. Goddamnit.

Played about 3 hours with my friend last night and it was the best time I have ever had in gaming for awhile. This mod has so much potential and I hope the devs don't screw it up later down the line.

I feel like an idiot asking since similar quesitons continue to be answered, but:

1. I know you need both Arma II and OA. If I buy Combined Operations on Steam for $30, does that handle everything I need besides the mod?

2. If I get Combined Operations on Steam, is there a step by step guide to installing the mod (which is presumably just a matter of copying over files)? I was looking around the thread and OP but maybe I'm blind and missed it.

3. Neither game is VAC protected, correct? So modding and installing this mod will not cause problems with VAC or other (normal ARMA II) anti-cheat systems?

4. If I want to see if my system can run it, the Arma II free version (not the demo) is the one to download on Steam, correct? Or should I get the demo since it's smaller?

We need an OT or something with details in the OP because people are repeating the same questions over and over.
