Was checking out the tutorial out of curiosity, is this a "real" game session after you leave the initial area?? There's an already built village outside and a castle nearby, plus the MINECRAFT sign in the sky is still there, so I assume no, but the tutorial instructions have ended and the map is showing a huge play area.

Super Mario would be proud of me :) When I stumbled on this room was down to half a heart, I was about 5 levels down in a twisted cave system. I was lugging a whole bunch of iron/coal/redstone/gold/and precious diamond. I have no idea how I made it out alive but I did!

Yep you never get kicked out of the tutorial area.

Twice now I've lost everything while trying to make my way up to the surface. Pretty burned out already, honestly. Making torches and pickaxes gets pretty tedious after mining for ages and losing everything because lava falls on your head or a random monster pops out of the wall and kills you. Having a hard time getting my footing it seems.

-Never dig right over your head
-Never dig right over your fist
-Have yourself a full armor set --- this way you will never blow up by a creeper
-Always keep food and torches on you (duh)
-As soon as you can have a bow and arrow, use it. All mobs are helpless with that except Endermen.
-If you in a cave, focus in galleries going UP first. This way you will not have NMEs falling on you because those area would have been lit up already.

Also, save often! I found that helped me a few times where I accidentally fell into some lava and lost all the gold/iron/redstone that I had just mined. I just exited the game without saving and reloaded my previous save state from a few minutes prior and I had everything again.

Is it possible to make those mob trap factories work in the Xbox version? How do you get the mobs to spawn?

That's what I'm working on. I actually haven't built anything above ground in my world. So far, all I've done is explore the entire map and build an elaborate mine. My first construction is going to be that "TRAP 2" from my video. I'm going to try building it on the exact corner of the world map and see if that makes it work better. :)

But before I can build I need to mine up on a bunch of cobble and wood.

Game is such a fun time sink. Played with some of you already but if anyone wants to invite me my gamertag is Bitter Rival

Is there a fast way to get rid of trees? I planted a few of them in the road leading to my front door, but now they grew up to huge sizes and I can't barely see the front of my house anymore.

It always amazes me what people manage to build. Going through this thread makes me want to play again, but it's always a bit intimidating thinking about starting from scratch considering how much time is needed.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread, watching a new group of gamers discover Minecraft. Its probably my game of the generation.

When I first got the PC version, it was on a much earlier build than the current 360 one. In a week, while not at work, I set myself the target of making a glass chamber under the sea:

It should be possible in the 360 version and I heartily recommend it. Just wanted to see if any other Gaffers have explored aquatic glass architecture yet.

Get the best axe you can get with your resources, cut down all wood and the leaf blocks will disappear themselves. Keep in mind some of the bigger trees don't just have a trunk, they can have random wood blocks spread throughout. The tree won't disappear until it is cleared of wood, but you don't have to bother with clearing the leaves.

Sweet! Thanks.

The second thing I've been building was a normal cobblestone house on a beachside, but I like making alternate exits so I don't have creepers blowing holes in the ground around the house. I've been doing a glass pathway that goes partially underwater, it's been pretty difficult to pull off. It's nothing near what you did there, but I'll try to take a picture of it later.

Awesome would be interested in seeing it!

Holy shit mama, I can't even wrap my head at how to start building something like that.

Mine wasn't actually that tricky, it looks harder than it is. Basically I built a solid cubic island out of dirt, then hollowed it out apart from one layer on each side - this creates a dirt-box of air in the ocean. I then made glass walls and a ceiling, and then finally got rid of the surrounding layer of dirt allowing water to wash over the entire thing, flooding it. The slightly more tricky bit was the descending tunnel, which was a similar but more precise process of using dirt to hollow out water.

Another angle of it:

do powered minecards not work in this version? my furnaced minecart wont push me up a 1/2 slop in another minecart in front of it. it just bumps into it and when I take off my passenger minecart it will move.

Edit: this is driving me mad, minecart with furnace just runs into my other minecart and just bumps against it.

I love seeing people's first Minecraft creations, they really have heart and grit. They seem more 'real' than the expertly made creations that veterans have made.

I saw some squids fighting and thought it would be neat to build an under water thing like above. I'm going to do it after I finish my castle, which I almost burned down while foolishly dabbling in decorating with lava.

I wonder how it would be possible to have an aquarium of those octipus. I'm gonna post what my girlfriend and I have been working on later.

If anyone wants a really cool seed, try "801"(without quotes). It has lots of natural arches and interesting land formations. I really wish I would have messed around with some seeds when I first started.

So I'm unable to see my friend's games in the list of games you can join and they can't see mine... The only way to get into another game is by selecting "invite only" and then directly inviting them to the game or accepting an invitation. Any ideas?

Cool stuff! I will definitely try it out. I have a nice bay right behind my home.

This is how it looks from the top my place. Looking forward to experimenting with glass and water stuff.

Well there's fire...

Am I going to end up in the middle of a tragedy with that solution?
It is very possible, yes. Be VERY careful with fire and lava since depending on the version, they can jump to nearby wooden structures or trees and destroy huge creations. If you have the time, just use an axe (or maybe a sword for tree leaves, I forget if that's really better/faster) and be safe for trees. The wood's great to have stored up anyway, and saving saplings for more trees later is also good.

Ah I wish you could pile grass like blocks. I built a maze but it's not the same with brown dirt.
I don't know if it's in that version, but grass should spread to adjacent blocks so if you're patient you might be able to grow it up single-block stair steps. Try placing a dirt block in the middle of field of grass, leave it for say a day, and see if it's covered with grass.

I think i came across a mega cave. It seems ridiculously large. Pretty sure i have used at least 512(probably a lot more) torches and there is still more stuff. Its cool but, its so large and interconnected that its easy to get lost.
Ive been mining in and around it quite a bit. Diamond is a biotch to find. Digging near lava like a boss.

Yeah, I ended up freaking out at the prospect of losing everything in a fire, so I went with the axe method. It wasn't difficult at all and now I have my front view the way I want it.

Here's an angle of it coming out of my house:

Considering it's the second thing I've built, I mismanaged it pretty bad. If I went one block deeper I would have been saved a ton of trouble, I didn't plan the fact that the sandstone stuff would make all the sand fall down, so I'm actually planning on covering a lot of the exposed area still. Most of the spots you see where actually pretty high sand heaps. Also note the 3 random blocks of water, it causes a waterfall looking effect on the glass when I'm inside:

oOezQ.jpg

Which I like the look of. I'm planning on replacing all of the sandstone with normal stone so it doesn't look so out of place. I carved the sides of the ground around it so that water surrounds it too.

The glass portion is going to meet up with stairs that go through a huge tower. The tower will act as a way to find the house itself through a safer door, and I'll also built a mind out of it.

Attempted to rid the bottom of my mine of a huge lava flow and turns out it was much deeper than I thought.. goodbye full suit of iron and 3 picks :(

Respawned and ran back and didn't have enough iron to make another pick, so I tried a gold one. Wtf? Gold pickaxes are useless!

So I have realized that recreating The Pit in Minecraft is actually going to be pretty tough, so I'm either just gonna hold out until Creative mode is released (Well, hopefully it gets released), or just make a very crude version of it.

EDIT: Wrong thread, but I guess it still applies lol. I'm talking about remaking The Pit (level from Halo 3).

Ignore the furnace minecarts, just concentrate on building the powered rails. The furnace minecarts are busted, and even if you can get them to work they're really slow next to the powered rails anyway.
