So the story was incredibly predictable but at least the CG cutscenes were nice and i really liked the banter with the followers.

I can tell from the way they ended that we'll see an expansion. We need to search for Leah's soul and also find Adria. Amirite?

Well before the game was released they announced they'd be doing 2 expansions (much like SC2).

I seriously get the feeling in one of them Imperius is going to try and do something to our world as I'm not sure if it was just where he was damaged, but he certainly seems even more corrupt than before.

aw snap, really? i haven't followed the development since it was taking so long. good to know.

i'm gonna assume we'll get to play as a Necro again cuz that Necro NPC i met was there just to tease us.

I also don't understand Tyreal's change though. No longer Justice, now Wisdom? Isn't there already an Archangel of Wisdom? So confused.

The archangel of Wisdom dissapeared one day never to be seen again. One of the NPC's in act 4 talks to you about it. ^^

that made me think that Wisdom became the Prophet from what the Enchantress told me.

That Prophet, from the Book of Cain, is Inarius, the original angel who helped create the nephalem. During the Sin War, he had battled the deception of the prime evils and their religion with his own vying for mindshare and he was at the top, as the "Prophet".

And to the guy above who talks about the Necro NPC. Yeah, I just saw that dude in the desert man, that was sick. I was like omfg its the necro! But no, it's the apprentice of the original D2 Necro. Sick shit getting referred to like that though!

The whole of Act 4 was too rushed. I don't think I got that.

And couldn't the fight with Diablo be better tiered? They could have him in his female form at first, and use a final gicantic "this is the full state of my power + the other prime evils" form at the end. They did it with Belial and it was great.

Funny, I didn't really like how they handled belial and his "full power" form. He looked like the final boss from a jrpg game or something. Multiple phases is a good way to design fights though.

oh, interesting stuff. i was trying to look up for info on the Diablo wikis (like three different ones) and they're all not updated or general info from PR. i guess none of those guys who usually update it finished the game yet. hehe

I think this is the only forum on the internet that is so spoiler sensitive about diablo 3.

I've been to quite a few different places and I haven't found a single one that's cared so much about this story, and having beaten it myself it wasn't even that great. TBH it's largely average that serves only to progress the story.

Doesn't matter how bad it is, if people don't want to be spoiled, you should respect it.

So Leah not only dies but her soul is Lost for good.

Oh well, ouch.

No doubt someone is thinking of a "rule 34" on how she was conceived.

Get used to it. GAF considers it a spoiler if you say that Mario Kart has a blue shell in it.

That'd be cool, but I feel like the sort of mixture of minions and poison and curses is pretty well taken care of by the Witch Doctor.

If I could pick any classes from D2 to come back, it'd probably be the Paladin and the Amazon. Maybe the Druid.

It'd be neat, too, as something of a fanservicey easter egg, to have equipment that'd occasionally autocast certain spells from D1/D2 classes that are otherwise inaccessible to D3 classes. Stuff like Valkyrie or Bone Armor.

What does everyone think about what they will do for the expansion? I suspect a conflict with Imperius is inevitable.

expansion one starts with all the classes getting drunk in a bar and then stumbling out in to the rainy night, eventually waking up the next morning in a new, weird world

Am I just tired or could they not make up how many votes were cast against the annihilation of mankind? At first Tyrael was the only one opposing, then it turns out that Auriel (and 'Fate'?) was against it, too.
I think Hope and Fate lied. "Oh uh hello nephalem we totally voted in your favor."

Him and Covetous Shen stood out for me as characters. The Scoundrel had an interesting background, too. And he's amusing. After you defeat Diablo he starts tearing up: "That's just the rain." - "It doesn't rain in this realm." - "Wellitdoesnow! *sniff*" Adorable.
The Enchantress was as interesting as wet toast though.
The only interesting thing about the Enchantress is the les yay.

The best thing about Diablo 2's narrative and progression was its use of discretion. You were following the main plot, but not necessarily directly involved all the time. Story was given in bits, and so much was left up to suggestion and imagination. It really let the world come alive and have a sense of place.

Diablo 3 is a Saturday morning cartoon.

I've been here for quite a while, and this line of thinking is completely irrational.

Hilariously, this is the only thread in which you are respecting the spoiler sensitivity. You are welcome to think and even argue that it's silly, but pushing against it twenty times over in the regular thread just makes you come off like a dick.

I hated that this Tyrael essentially had the Aspects storyline from Cataclysm though. It's horribly similar.

Always the tag bridesmaid, never the tag bride.
What happened to the heroes from D2?

Well all we got is that the Barb in Diablo 3 is the same one from Diablo 2 and there's a side quest in Act 2 where you meet the Necro's (from Diablo 2) apprentice geared out in bone armor. Don't think any of the other heroes were mentioned.

No, just the d3 thread because everyone is being irrational babies about it.

The Barbarian is the same one from Diablo II. As for the rest of them nobody knows.

That was the original plan, but i'm pretty sure I read that they changed it since you can have a female barbarian this time and they would have needed a unique origin story for her

Diablo in female form doesn't look right. Maybe its the boobs. :p I know its coming from Leah's soul, but still. How can they do an expansion after that ending? Diablo fused with all the other evils, then we kick his ass. I don't see him coming back.

I just beat it earlier. I'm pretty sure I saw a soul stone flying downward after Diablo disintegrated. Or maybe it was a giant kidney stone. Either way, he's definitely coming back.

Of course he is coming back, you can't name a franchise "Diablo" and simply kill him for good.

Another possible explanation from the lore stems from the Sin War novels, where Diablo is said to take the form of his viewer's greatest fear (that he once terrified himself by his own reflection). This Demon may in fact be how Blizzard Entertainment thinks the modern gamer would visualize the Lord of Terror as the worst fear imaginable, while maintaining the overall dinosaur-like reptilian design of Diablo.

A girl

Lol, in theBluray Metzen was like:

"So we all sat around in the conference room, and I remember pitching the idea to people that Diablo would be a chick."

To say the least people were mad, stormed out the room, started arguing against it...

It wasn't very pretty at all.

Eventually as we explained it, and it kinda took form, everyone became more accepting of it and we got things done, but man, that first discussion was not pretty at all.

People were upset."

Yep. In the dev commentary on the cutscenes (on the bluray) they explicitly say this, and follow that up with a, "Just because the Prime Evil is defeated, doesn't mean that Evil itself is gone" or something along those lines. They said that they needed to make it clear that the Black Soulstone still existed in that cutscene.
So Leah met a gruesome demise

Tho maybe Blizzard will retcon her back in for the expansion
It's been explicitly stated by them (on the Bluray) that her soul is 100% for sure still out there. It's lost and has no mortal shell to return to, but it definitely does exist.

yea, i was disappointed by that. at least his funeral was CG.
I thought that cutscene was one of the better cutscenes Blizzard has done in the last few years.

Pretty easy. Find her soul scattered somewhere and watch her become one of the Archangels eventually in the final expansion and she destroys her father for good in the end. You're welcome Blizzard.

Story got skipped a lot for me but at what point did Leah turn evil? Was she always wanting to be diablo or did her mom corrupt her?

I imagine she is Aidan's and Adria's daughter. Conceived when Aidan was the dark wanderer. (So, she was actually Leoric's heir too?)

That's essentially what happened.

Aidan boned Adria while he was under Diablo's control as the Dark Wanderer. Leah was the result of that.

Since she was created essentially by Diablo, she's a perfect vessel for him to return.

Leah didn't turn evil. Her mother was working for Diablo the entire time. By having them collect the souls of the other demon's in the soulstone, and then forcefully put it in Leah, she was able to resurrect Diablo.

Remember, Leah is basically Diablo's human daughter, because of that, she's a perfect vessel for Diablo to make a return.

Why did they give Diablo a male voice? Should have went with a monstrous female voice.

Leah herself isn't evil, persay. She's inherently a good person, as is her soul. Her mother took advantage of that and knew that she was always to be the vessel for the resurrection of Diablo. Basically once you found the Black Soulstone is when she started becoming "corrupted".

In this case, just think of the soul (and conscience) and mortal shell as two different entities entirely.

Why did they give Diablo a male voice? Should have went with a monstrous female voice.

Hahaha, I wondered the same thing too (and still do).

They didn't give an explanation for that, but if I had to guess, it would be because Leah's body is just the shell, not the soul anymore. Still though, I agree with you. I was hoping for a female voice to match the body. But the Lord of Terror wouldn't sound too threatening unless it was in that deep growly bass voice.

Did they give an explanation for why they just tossed Diablo's body, soulstone and all, out of Heaven to fall to the ground? I thought the original plan of the good guys was to trap all the souls in the black soulstone then smash it. Not get all the bad guys into the black soulstone then just kinda drop it off a bridge and hope for the best.

The Angels apparently chucking Diablo's body down to Sanctuary despite the Black Soulstone still being in it is the stupidest shit imaginable. Adria will probably recover it in the expansion and resurrect Diablo with it. Maybe Imperius will attempt to destroy Sanctuary and the Prime Evil with it.
