Champ is so gonna get bodied by Marlinpie so bad.
Once you hit 3-4 games in a set, MarlinPie's download completes. I don't think it'll be that free, but I still think its largely in MarlinPie's favour. MarlinPie is always favored in sets because he has the greatest amount of anti-bullshit tech of any player in Marvel.

Fanatiq has said before that F Champ knows how to play money matches and even he is afraid to challenge F Champ to a money match. It seems likely too that F Champ will drop Phoenix and play Mag/Dorm/Doom against Marlinpie, since Marlinpie has too much anti Phoenix tech. So I won't bet on Marlinpie if I were you.

So Marlin Pie auto loses if he isnt playing against phoenix?

Just because Champ drops his Phoenix team doesnt mean he suddenly can compete. Anti-bullshit =/= anti-Phoenix. MarlinPie has FChamps number already.

Fanatiq is afraid to money match FChamp because hes aware FChamp is better than him.

Without hesitation, I give MarlinPie advantage. I cant even say FChamp is bad because he's arguably one of the best, but MarlinPie has been leveling up his game recently from already being one of the best as well.

Me too although it won't be free for him. Marlin Pie and Champ are 2 of the most analytical players as well.

Pie blew up plenty non Phoenix players FYI

As someone who watches a fair amount of FGTV streams.... Champ won't beat Marlin.

Marlin plays completely different than a Pr Balrog, Shady K, Ricky O or any other player Champ trains with. Not only that but the other Viper he plays Chrisis, Drew Grimey, and Kbeast plays completely different than Marlin.

Honestly you either gotta have Justin Wong/Chris G blocking or Josh Wong/Mihe offense to beat Marlin. Champ is so solid all around but he doesn't excel at either one.

So Marlin Pie auto loses if he isnt playing against phoenix?

Money matches =/= normal matches. Marlin Pie can be the better player and he's still going to lose against someone who knows how to play money matches better than him. How much is F Champ and Marlin Pie playing for anyway?

It might make the match up a bit better for Champ, but I still think MarlinPie got this, despite Champ having imo the best Mags in the world.

I wonder how many people are going to rage when they find out they can't register to EVO since it will be booked soon and the FGC loves to register late.

i Kombat-people,

This year's interest in Evolution is blowing the doors off every other year. Though we try to book the largest hotel ballrooms available in Las Vegas, this year there is a real threat of more people attending EVO than can fit in the event hall. We cannot risk the entire event by the fire marshall shutting us down when we're over capacity, so we are only selling enough passes to fill our maximum capacity.

At the time of this posting, EVO is over 90% full! This means if you haven't registered yet, you're at grave risk of being shut out of the event. Once we reach 100% capacity, we will shut down registration entirely, so please register ASAP if you plan on attending. If you wait till June (or even next week), it will probably be too late.

Here's the link to the registration page:

http://evo.shoryuken.com/evo-2012-player-registration/

TLDR: Register for EVO now or risk missing the cutoff.

Thanks,

No amount of solid defense is going to beat Marlin. He has unlockable set ups on his team meaning 1 touch is a 60% chance of winning the entire game. There is also no weak link on that team.

Had a great time today again.

I money matched Dieminion in SFxT, yea I got bodied.

It's weird that Wolfkrone was mostly playing controller in the casuals and pool games I saw but chose to use the stick in the top 8.

There were people sleeping during sfxt.

Pretty good point right here. MarlinPie only really loses when he gets mindfucked enough to sacrifice his Viper, and that's through relentless offense. Or, alternatively, you play SSS-Tier blocking like Wong would do.

Money matches =/= normal matches. Marlin Pie can be the better player and he's still going to lose against someone who knows how to play money matches better than him. How much is F Champ and Marlin Pie playing for anyway?
You put significant weight on an anecdote of FChamp preparing for money matches more than proficiency and match experience, an amount I cannot justify. "How to play money matches" doesn't carry the same gravity as how well someone plays period, and is easily a minor factor in the grand scheme of things. And to many players, there is no difference.

Here's tips from FChamp himself on how to beat MarlinPie: you don't let him start his offense. Wise words until you get hit with random EX-Seismo. Marlin isn't the bait and switch kind of player, he just kind of does it. Not sure what Champ can do to prepare to face MarlinPie really, outside of finding a solid way to deal with anchor Amaterasu.

I would have to disagree. If you watch the winner semi between Justin vs Marlin at Shadowloo Showdown Justin just blocked everything and basically should have won except for really bad drop combos.

When they met again in loser finals that was another story because Marlin just was in that zone where everything worked.

Champ's panic X-factor with PHX also cost him what could have been a 3-0 win. He later said on FGTV he did that because Marlin has so much anti PHX stragety. I see where's he coming from but I have to disagree with him on this one. You were one round away from taking the tournament let Dark Phoenix comes out. And see what happens if he hits you with a godlike anti phx stragety then you have 5 more rounds (champ was coming from winners) to adapt.

Except he choose to never let Dark PHX come out because he was so scared of the dark phx anti stragety, but we never even got to see any of them. At least force Marlin to bring it out.. or that's how I look at it. Also you never know what if he mess up one a set up?

When I mean defense in that context I was just talking about blocking mix.ups. The true defense in marvel is spacing and mobility which is what will beat Marlin. if champ plays magneto perfectly in terms of spacing and movement he can beat him. Fchamps defense in that regard is stellar.

yo enzo, good to see you again today.

Seeing krone opt to use stick for top 8 makes me feel even better about my casual win against him. I guess he's just not used to punishing pokes or even blocking them on stick yet.

Lots of fun though, can't wait for evo!

i missed both days due to work....what were the highlights? youtube links?

Depends on what game you're interested in, but the Jwong/Joker Marvel set I posted above is a good place to start. That same video link has everything else from the main stream on finals day; just skip to different times depending on what you want to see. Marvel top 8 is at the end, and was probably the best part. Skullgirls was also pretty good. The order for finals day was something like Tekken, KOF, SC5, Skullgirls, MK, AE, SFxT, and then Marvel.
