If the gamer card is real, they MUST give the option for a smart phone app in the states. Especially if the eShop app Iwata spoke of is coming, there is no reason they don't tie the two together.

A gamer card in the US is DOA, but a smart phone app allows Nintendo to always be with millions of consumers.

It's nintendo, may not even happen sadly.

If they're semi-serious about their online, then they have to do it. Not having a flagship title that's going to move units without having online when the game is based around multiplayer is absolutely absurd.

I would hope they allow you to use your 3DS as it too, if you own one.

Maybe do a firmware update for it.

Yeah as many devices as possible I reckon. Lots of people won't have an adhoc wifi capable device though (IIRC is what Nintendo uses), so for them they'll need the card.

I hope it also has some other functionality and not just StreetPass because here in NZ StreetPass is essentially worthless. I have had 4 hits in a year; 2 of those my mate who changed his Mii's shirt :)

I am expecting a portion of the show to be about Wii U - 3DS compatibility games. (New Super Mario Bros, Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing?)

Would also love to see Stage Debut come back for the Wii U. We have all the pieces.

Are you confirming a Wii U version of Animal Crossing?

Because that would make my year.

I'm with BY2K on this... I still can't believe a Nintendo press conference is going to be on Spike TV. But it's even MORE surreal that they're ACTIVELY PROMOTING IT.

It's almost like they know Nintendo is going to impress their core demographic or something...

This E3 will be the first time I've ever willingly watched Spike TV.

Why? Nintendo's own stream is far superior, and you get bonus stuff after!

I vaguely recall having to temporarily switch to another of the streams because of hitting a spotty spot during Nintendo's stream last year or maybe the year prior. It's good to have a backup. That, and TV broadcasts can't get taken down by excessive viewers.

Edit… oh, wow, NeoGAF has a character limit in posts.

Quality-wise, yes, but last year the beginning had problems, I think we lost a good minute of the Zelda Orchestra.

As long as I don't have to listen to Adam "I'll do anything for a check now" Sessler act as if he didn't just hear Nintendo say console in their conference I'm good.

For some reason I keep hoping for Sega to announce a Wii U version of Phantasy Star Online 2 in English. PSO was afterall one of the first online games on Nintendo hardware.

Even if it does end up being similar to the Pokewalker, that thing was pretty addictive. It looks like Nintendo has been continually expanding upon this concept and combining it with a console is a perfect idea for Japan. Don't know about the US though. As someone else said, allowing people to download a smartphone app instead would be an excellent idea.

The main reason the Pokewalker was so addictive though was because it contained its own mingame that transferred experience and items back to the main game. If they're going through with this, that's definitely what they should do with Wii U games. They should encourage 3rd parties to do it as well.

My Complete Idea For This:
You get the Wii U version of Black Ops II and it comes with a minigame that downloads into either this device or the Nintendo Network iOS app.

As you walk or pass by other people doing the same thing you earn XP or points that you can use in some kind of minigame to gain XP that feeds back into the console version. Or maybe just bring the points back into some kind of challenge for the console version. There are a lot of possibilities there.

I don't know if your hmm-ing him being gone from the network.. or the comment

But yeah when G4 went for their instant reactions, many weren't show if Nintendo had showed a new controller or console.

Oh that. It wasn't just G4.

And really, I think Giant Bomb's comment on the Wii U power because of the game footage (that was actually PC/PS3/360 footage) is worse.

oh you're good. a little too good. After him!

He's survived countless Ninja attacks. He'll be fine :p

How can you guys complain about Ideaman when Harker is even worse? Goddamn.

I don't recall Harker teasing us or saying he'll reveal such and such at such and such time. If he says something, then whatever. It's not like I'm going to question him further about what he said.

Edit: I'd rather not end the thread with this discussion again so I'm not going to reply further.

That's awesome too! I love streetpass. I just wish I got to use it more often.

Think of how popular the Nintendo Network can become just because of the amount of "real life" local gamer tags you'll acquire while on the go. I love the idea. Can't wait to see it used

Wow, that dude who leaked the controller got fired and faces legal charges.

Not to mention the ninjas coming to his house while he sleeps.

NDAs do NOT mess around. That dude was pretty damn bold to put his name next to a Nintendo leak.

I signed an working as a tester for THQ about 5 years ago and still can't discuss a lot of what I saw there.

GameplayWhore, you've been holding out on us. Spill!

I will soon make a new thread with lots of information and speculation on the Wii U. Expect this just shortly before this thread hits 20k posts.

(well, I will, but it's not a thread with new information, and you guys already know I'm making it)

Har! No, I mean that's kind of a "derrrr" thing. You just don't have blank buttons on final controllers. I mean, I guess you could, but Nintendo (and most other console makers) has that habit of labeling things so you know what you're pressing. If it's an NFC area, then you'll see the letters "NFC". If it's a button that switches the active display so you can let dad watch the baseball game, then it'll say "switch" or "flip" or "move" or something like that under the button.

sorry, I'm teasing the guy whom I normally defend there, but I'm in a mischievous mood tonight

So, aside from the text near the mysterious square buttons... anything else that will change from the model we have from the E3 one?

Including rumor of games?

Yea I just found out about giant bomb's between og Xbox and Xbox 360 video but I still lol. And about Sessler he was saying that he didn't know if it was a new console and Chis Hardwick looked at him like "how the fuck are u my boss" but only replied if course it's a new console.

Frankly, I'd rather chat about the StreetPass device. It could be really interesting if what that article says is true about it. I mean, it's basically even more like a DreamCast VMU in some ways, now that it's pocketable and has a simpler LCD screen.

That news bit just came and went, seemingly ignored tonight. But I just have the feeling there's more to it if we press our crania together.

edit:
Including rumor of games?

Just to clarify, in case what I thought was obvious humour got taken seriously: I have no secret information. I just like overanalysing things that we learn about, and sometimes I randomly manage to say things that end up correct. That's the beautiful thing about Speculation. Anyway, the thread I'm talking about is just the next speculation thread. So, yeah, it'll have shittons of rumours about games, et al. :)

Fantastical

Death Prophet
A StreetPass device makes absolutely no sense. StreetPass exists so people will bring their 3DS with them, and add a social feature that works in short range distances. A console is completely different. I think the StreetPass equivalent would be something that involves online and connecting that way.

I don't understand why they would include a StreetPass device.

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
I predict that IdeaMan will reveal that Wii U will include a solid state drive, and may ditch the disc drive altogether. A propitiatory transfer card, with 25GB of flash memory and unique identifying info will come with your console. You take this to the store to download the full game onto your card from store kiosks. This is for folks who don't have internet access.

edit. I changed my mind; that's not going to happen. Too hard to give Xmas presents.
