Big Daddy and Nathan Drake revealed for PlayStation All Stars

SE will probably want to push lightning more than characters from a game they don't have the capability to remake :/

If Little Big Planet can get FF7 costumes, this game can get Cloud and Sephiroth.

it was way delayed though
to the point of irrelevance

The game is a mix of characters.

1)You need characters that people know and are familiar with. They're the ones who'll likely grace the cover. These characters draw in the masses.

2)You need some legacy characters. Fewer people know these characters, but they can discover who they are...and can likely crossover to playing them exclusively once they play/own the game.

Its a good play to go after 3rd party developers. Nintendo won't pull them in, and Sony's the only other game in town that's making a game like this. Claim 'em now in case MS get's any ideas lol. Like SSB, the roster will grow if it gets a sequel. You won't get every character, but as their first outing its a good idea to pull in icons....and yes not all of them should be Sony.

Sony got into the game by catering to 3rd parties (much like MS is now). That philosophy should be carried over into the game. Sony has always been more about the sum of the parts, and this plays into that. I'm not an uberfan of Bioshock the game, but maybe I'll like the implementation of him here. I don't like everyone in SF or MK either, but that's kind of the point...you gravitate to what you do like. Be open-minded, be realistic.

Dante will be in...but it will be this Dante

They could just use a skin for Kratos in that case

Lightning would actually be good in this game, but her announcement wouldn't be that crazy. Cloud and Sephiroth get announced and that will get people excited.

Big Daddy seems like a bad choice. Bioshock 1 and 2 sold poorly on the PS3 and won't likely resonate with the audience who owns the PS3. They are better off chasing third party characters from games that are wildly popular on the PS3. Sadly the top 4 or so all have Call of Duty in the title.

Maybe Xbox All-Stars can get Pyramid Head now, lawl

But it makes sense if they were making the rounds with the publishers, 2k doesn't have much to offer in terms of iconic characters. (Well, Duke would be cool. Jackie from The Darkness?) Either way, he's one of the best character designs of this gen.

Not only that, Bioshock was an Xbox 360 exclusive title for a long time. I get this addition from a "that's cool and will appeal to the hardcore" point of view, but Big Daddy is definitely not what I view as a Playstation All Star.

They are not adding characters base on sales.

Seriously where did this come from?
I guess that people think that low sales = not many people will know about it. It is true in that sense, but i'm pretty sure that a lot of gamers know who Big Daddy from Bioshock is.

Kinda surprising choice to me personally, but it seems that Sony has a good relationship with 2K around Bioshock Infinite (Move support and a Vita game), so i guess that it makes sense. Plus Big Daddy is one of the more iconic/known characters of this console generation.

Uh, Brawl wasn't the first crossover game Snake was in.

WHILE I don't think we will have Snake on the next smash bros, this didn't stoped Snake to appear on Smash Bros

Snake is a hidden character

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but Konami definitely is not Sony. Sony is Nintendo's direct competitor and Playstation All Stars has the potential to take some wind out of Smash Bros sails. Unlike Konami's Japan-only title, PAS is a game that Sony wants to sell its systems with and I can't see Nintendo supporting a character involved with that.

Big Daddy is a great character for a game like this, very recognisable and with a potentially unique move set. It's a famous character from two released PS games and two announced ones (including the Vita game). Nerd angst over whether it is more a PS character or a 360 one is completely irrelevant.

That's what I was wondering. The character is cool, but is not something that many associate with Sony; neither has "that classic status" like Sonic of Snake did for something like Smash. Wouldn't surprise me if it was part of some kind of "bundle" (deal) like how the first Bioshock game is included in Infinite or the Bioshock Vita game that was announced.

Scorpion form Mortal Kombat would make more sense; not only MK has been on the PlayStation since the 90s, but the series sells better on PlayStation consoles.

Though agree that characters shouldn't be added just based on sales, but..is still kinda weird. Is as if they decided to add Commander Shepard from Mass Effect 3. :p

Thread is nonsense. Big Daddy is a very awesome, well designed character from one of the top rated games of the generation - that is of course on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC - which means many people know about him. It's a good inclusion.

MS and Sony seem to attach themselves to certain third party titles. MS have done it with COD. Sony have done it with Assassin's Creed. And based on the focus they gave Infinite last year, they seem to be doing it with Bioshock.

Sales does not mean a character will or wont be known.

Look at Radec.

I agree.

Why does everyone care so much about the playstation brandness of the games anyhow? I thought this type of game was supposed to be cool because you get to mix and mash you fighting match ups with a bunch of extremely unique and already well developed characters, allowing you to create both dream match ups and wierd matchups you'd never thought you'd ever see.

The only reason brand integrity matters is because it costs money to go outside the brand and messes up the cross marketing appeal of the game by using up a slot with a game you make no money from, but those are only business reasons. That doesn't give any reason for us, the gamers, to not cheer when a really cool fun to play character makes it into the roster.

Sure you can complain if you don't like Big Daddy as a character or as a fighter for this roster, but to complain about the brand identity of it just makes you sound like a corporate whore.

I have mixed feelings about this. Big Daddy is hugely iconic, comes from a very commerically successful franchise and would work well in a brawler like this (he can be one of the slow-moving, hard-hitting heavies of the roster). But he's not exactly well affiliated with the Playstation in the way that more suitable third-party candidates like Cloud Strife, Crash Bandicoot and Lara Croft are.

Still, I guess this is a sign that Bioshock Vita is on the way, and in all probability takes place in Rapture again. Both games might even come out at the same time.

Big Daddy not a good choice? Great character design, could have potential for some badass moves, well known in gaming community in general. So, was Solid Snake a bad idea for Smash bros?

The 3rd party characters has me more interested in the game besides maybe Drake. I have not bought a fighter in a long time but will likely pick this up now just to play with others. Crash really should be in game though.

He's not really a part of the PS image, so his inclusion seems strange. And yes, Snake was a bad idea for brawl in my opinion.

I rather they make a better game than try to preserve some PS image, game would just be dull if they did that in my view. Disagree of course about Snake.

Sure. Radec is most likely less known and he is still included. I just ment to say that maybe people think it is weird that Big Daddy is included because it isnt a mainstream character on PS3 (due to lower sales). But he is still known among gamers. So in that way it makes sense to include him in the game i think.

But she's a bigger one then all of them combined and the most bland hollow one of them all.

Maybe but all i see is 14 Male characters and 1 female (Fat Princess) so far. Need to bring some gender balance to this roster. Sadly there isn't much in the Sony roster.

I got grudge sucked!
I'm expecting everyone from that ps3 commercial last year with all the characters at the bar. I'd be real surprised if there is no Lightning or Ezio.

Selvaria should be in. She fills out the need for both female characters and villains and she could have an interesting moveset.

Yeah, she would be a perfect addition to the game.

But while I have moderately optimistic views about this game, I'm definitely not expecting them to do something as cool as including Selvaria Bles.

This is completely a guess on my part but I think the older PS stuff will either be unlockable or probably DLC (especially older characters)

Seeing and hearing a Big Daddy, with Little Sister in tow in Bioshock is possibly my favourite moment of this gen, and it was the PS3 version I was playing.
So yes, I'm ok with this. Fuck the haters.

Seeing that Bioshock 2 can be Bionic Arm: The Game depending on how you spec him, it'd be just great if he becomes this games Spencer.

Are people actually debating whether or not Big Daddy is an iconic character?

Bioshock was a momentous game this generation, and I'd like to think I don't just speak for myself when I say I remember the first time I saw a Big Daddy inside of Rapture on my TV screen. Big Daddy is a smart pick- visually distinct, memorable, franchise-worthy, and a big seller.
