Star Wars 1313 Announced (epic, awe-inspiring, action-packed, visceral thrill ride)

A Star Was game without light sabers or the force ?

I don't think this can be appealing to SW fans it isn't to me anyway.

Maybe if it wasn't a SW game.

Star wars in general was way better before everyone started waving lightsabers every 10 minutes.

Most of the best SW had nothing to do with lightsabers or the force.

Cover based combat, platforming, cinematic experience.

In my head I picture Star Wars Uncharted, but I don't think that is the path they are taking.

I guess I really want a good Star Wars games.

This actually looks like it could turn out to be something special for Star Wars fans. I wonder..is this at all related to the Star Wars TV show that was allegedly about bounty hunters?

Also, no mention of platforms...what are the odds of this running on Unreal Engine 4?

It got shelved because Lucas couldn't negotiate with cable studios to the point where it would be economically feasible to make the show.

Lost all credibility.
Does Uncharted have QTEs? I'm hoping "playable cinematic gameplay" means the stuff you see in Uncharted trailers like being on the sinking tanker or something, I'd like that better than QTEs.

I sort of agree. Lightsabers are great but they are the fan solution to every problem that the series has.

Kyle Katarn spent one game and the a good chunk of another without a light saber says you're partially wrong.

Yep. I guess I'm an outlier but my favorite Katarn game is actually the original Dark Forces (due in large part to how non-linear and maze-like the levels are). I bought the huge Jedi Knight bundle on Steam for nostalgia and that's the only one I actually completed.

They have been doing a horrible job with games featuring Jedis over the past few years so I think its good they are taking a break. any word on when its set yet?

Star Wars 1313 may be an epic, awe-inspiring, action-packed, visceral thrill ride, but does it have a compelling narrative that is badass and also packed with enough feels to be an Oscar-quality dramatization of the human condition in the tradition of award winning interactive entertainment experiences such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Lego Harry Potter?

If it's half as good as KOTOR, I'm sold.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Looks like it could be pretty good.

What we need is a new Shadows of The Empire, this could be close.

How is it possible they still manage to hire developers after several cases of mass firings after games going gold? I surely would think twice before sending them my CV.

that how the creative industry works. You rarely stay on until retirement anywhere, especially a game.

That's the thing no one talks about. Capitalists love relatively high employment because it reduces labor's bargaining power.

So true. The best sw games have no force in them

Btw is it in the sw 1-3 timeline? Those usually suck

Gameplay sounds a lot like Uncharted.

Might be cool.

But fuck this shit, the fans want Battlefront 3 already. With perks, custom classes, killstreaks, and the ability to have a 420 smoke weed everyday player title. Gotta move the series into modern times.

The game industry is such a fluid contracting environment. Its quite normal to fire people during downtime. Its because a studio builds up a large work force during production and when a game is done they don't need them anymore.

The thing with games development is; you have multiple stages, Pre-production, production, etc. During pre-production you don't need a large force of 3d artists. and since pre-productionc an take a long time (3 to 6 months) and if you only have one game at a time in a studio, then shit! You cant keep that force around for a long time since they are a dead-weight. It drains a studio of money, so what they do is fire people. Its the way its done! nature of the beast etc. Nowadays allot of the work force are made up of freelancers who sit on a project for a period of time and if the project is done they let them go.

anyway, on topic, OH SHIT

this game looks amazing!
check gametrailers for some exclusive footage. really impressive. It wasn't shown at any of the conferences and it looks beyond good! it actually looks next gen good, so I am expecting this to be the first next gen game.

Am I wrong in thinking this doesn't look unreasonably more impressive visually than, say, Uncharted 2 or Uncharted 3?

It looks good, don't get me wrong, but I'm not seeing the "generational leap" some people are claiming.

Yes. There is detail in the lighting, particles, and general level of detail that is not present in ANY current gen console title.

But are they so far and away impressive that you would notice if you were not explicitly told to look for them? I probably wouldn't. Coming off of Uncharted 2's train sequence, you show me the bit with the guy jumping ship to ship in Star Wars and I'd probably assume they were both PS3 games.

Did you just compare Uncharted 2 to this?

Yes? At least for it to me it does, the train sequence in Uncharted 2 isn't the be all and end all anyway, mostly due to the low resolution environments around the train (I assume you're talking about the moving train sequence).

I don't think YouTube is doing that video justice if it's running at 1080p.

It's modified Unreal Engine 3 tech running on a PC. Like Watch Dog, I expect it to launch once the next-gen consoles are available because the loss of fidelity would be massive if they launched on X360 or PS3.

Uncharted 2 is a graphically astounding game, but I think you misremember its fidelity.

One looks like pre rendered CGI.

One is very clearly in game, yet impressive.

Definitely..I still remember when in the old Star Wars MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, it was a rare treat to see a jedi. Becoming one was a long, and hard, hard process. Then they completely revamped the game and it turned to crap..

I had good memories with that game..I miss it :(
