DmC E3 Demo Walkthrough - Mission + Boss

The biggest problem for this game is MGR:R. Sure it will be a decent beat'em'all on par with what God Of Wars does but no way what I'm seeing is going to be on the level of DMC1/3/Bayo. Looks pretty for sure.

Haven't you, like, played their games? lawl.

Yes. Enslaved was a great adventure game and Heavenly Sword was a good early gen action game with a neat passive stance blocking mechanic. I've been on board since this was announced.

I just love GAF... game looks just like it always has.... yet suddenly everyone's run out of crap to talk about Ninja Theory so all of a sudden it's acceptable to like it.

Certainly there's nothing markedly different to this and what we have been shown before.
Don't look at me dude, aside from the 30fps/unreal engine thing I never hated on the game. Also <3 ninja theory I freaking loved heavenly sword.
Gameplay looked like it was a tone of fun.

People too quickly hated on it, and this is coming from a big DMC fan.

People hated on it appropriately. Criticism and negativity inspires change, and it's obvious that changes/accomodations have been made since the backlash.

Slow combat, and looks too much easy. Still don't like the look of the new Dante, enemies and graphic in general.
With another name, maybe, this could be an honest action game a-la Heavenly Sword, but sorry, for me this can't be a Devil May Cry reboot.

Still don't like it. Changing environments are a nice idea... maybe not for DMC, I dunno. I mean, there's lots of cool stuff but I still prefer the look of DMC4.

But the real killer is the janky combat and animations. Then again, there's over half a year of development left. It's kinda getting there.

It's a tutorial area, you know. And cannon fodder enemies in DMC4 were cake too, on all difficulties. I don't know how this looks slow, it looks pretty fast to me. The rest you said is subjective.

NuDante has really grown on me, totally won me over even. I really liked his quips and jokes in this demo, I say he's genuinely funny and likeable.

Only thing that bothers me visually about the game is that the animation looks unfinished at points, I hope it is.

I can see how this would appeal to casual action gamers. Nice and mashy for an easy victory with nice visuals to make you think you're badass.

Or maybe it just looks fun. I can enjoy games like Ninja Gaiden, Demon's/Dark Souls and games that offer less challenge as well, if they are fun. Besides, who knows what the full game has in store?

Definitely. Death threats were a great way to showcase a constructive desire for tweaks. Changes were already underway in terms of character design changes. They just unveiled the game too early.

Oh please. If Ninja Theory actually received legitimate death threats, they would have contacted the authorities instead of mentioning it in passing to a game "journalist". Tameem probably considered all the internet memes as death threats. It's the internet. "Death threats" are a dime a dozen.

I find it a strange coincidence that the most universal of complaints regarding the character design were changed in the next iteration after the initial trailer. Pretty convenient, but you can believe what you want.

In any case, go ahead and completely ignore the actual constructive criticism that came from the community... most of it was dripping with ire, but still promoted change to the title.

Well I think it's safe to say now that Ninja Theory has outdone themselves and the crow is ready to be served.

Nah - still way to early for that. Maybe when the game comes out, yeah?

I really hate Dino's attitude. Old Dante was cocky but in a playful way, Dino is cocky and irritating. - Maybe it is just the voice acting that I have heard so far.

*There are no Taunts in the game because of narrative reasons

What could this narrative possibly have that lets you be a douchebag in cutscenes but not in gameplay?
EDIT: Also, Devil Trigger is still stupid. Devil Trigger used to be a boost, not ZA WARUDO.

I have never been so unimpressed with a boss battle as I was just now. I mean really? That was some of the most atrocious dialogue I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong I love me some cheesy Devil May Cry banter. But that was not it. It instead sounded like a twelve year old screaming swear words. Not to mention the slow and clunky fighting. Eugh.

I would say thank god that HUD is not final, but it's not like I'll be purchasing the final product anyways. I guess I'm not hardcore enough for demon orphanages.

It's way harder to to be cheesy and corny than resort to screaming f-bombs. but what do I know, NT are master story-tellers.

edit: just went back and actually watched it. So inane. Totally agree.

That wasn't actually a death threat by the way, just some parody song about DmC. No one actually threatened to directly kill NT based off of DmC and even if someone did it was out of jest. Even NT didn't take it seriously as they shouldn't because it's the fucking Internet.

And they have been changing the game over the months and fine tuning it. For the better I might add.

I just love GAF... game looks just like it always has.... yet suddenly everyone's run out of crap to talk about Ninja Theory so all of a sudden it's acceptable to like it.

More like people are talking about the new stuff shown rather than mulling over 30FPS, NT/Tameem PR, character designs/black hair, no hard lock on, 2 dedicated evade buttons that do the same thing, no taunts, unstable framerate, crap camera work, hard to read HUD in DT mode, ridiculous physics on juggles (even by DMC standards), cheesy Dante vs edgy Dante, low quality choppy animations and generally toned down "streamlined" game play constantly.

Would you really want to see the same people talk about the same crap over and over again? Game has faults for sure but the game has some good points to it too and the video posted in the OP highlights some of them and a lot of the mechanics shown were genuinely NEW that no one knew about... hence why it was made a topic.

It's like even if DMC fans DON'T HATE on the game people still have a problem with it. A lot of DMC fans still hate it and have problems with it but just hating all day is unproductive and it's better to give out constructive criticism, point out what's good and what's not then move the fuck on.

Give it time man, this thread is only 2 pages in. The haters will come, don't worry.

Looks really good, I really liked Enslaved and Heavenly Sword was nice (but short) too, can't wait for this game.

there may be a logical answer to this- so if there is, please tell me...

seriously, why is this game called DMC: Devil May Cry? Wouldnt that just make it... Devil May Cry: Devil May Cry?

and since we have ":" we can cancel everything out. :\ making the name " " ... bad joke. but seriously.. did they address this?

It's "DmC" which is an abbreviation for "Devil may Cry". It's a little redundant, I guess.

They wanted to reboot themselves and make a distinction that it's not part of the mainline series (will be replacing the mainline series entirely if it sells well enough). The mainline series was called DMC... with a capital "M" because that makes sense.

lol, have you even played it?

also ironic how you have a vesperia avatar.

Different genres, different expectations. I don't play RPG's expecting them to offer the depth and challenge a DMC game is suppose to have.

And no I haven't played it but i'm more than willing to change my mind if NT/Capcom ever releases a video showcasing high level play.

It's explained why in the video. You're always holding LT or RT to modify your attacks, and if you're holding left trigger it'd be difficult to press left bumper, and vice versa. It's for comfort purposes, makes total sense and shows they've thought things through.
If they had REALLY thought things through, then the angel and devil modes could be on LT/LB, serving the same function, yet freeing up both RB and RT for commands.

Also, wanted to punch everything during that conversation. Yelling fuck over and over isn't cool, and the entire scene makes the new Dante sound like a whiny teen.

I'm a bit worried at how muddling it will be to do weapon-varied combos when the weapon select is mapped to the d-pad. Top players didn't have an issue with this for styles in DMC4 it seems, despite it still being a bit of a pain in the arse.

Also, I do wonder how the weapons will be, given we start with Rebellion which switches in to two other weapons. Will the other weapons be transforming ones too to cater to angel and demon stances?

Bahhhhhh

Nice, a PC release. Haven't really liked any previous ninja theory games but I guess i could be persuaded by a 5 bucks steam sale down the road.

And then what, you have lock-on on RT and evade on RB? You run into the same problem.

Having alternate weapon styles on opposites of the controller is smart. The layout is fine. Hell they may let you customize it yet, DMC4's was fully customizable except for revving.

The new character design doesn't really make sense with the games tone.

It's obvious that scenes like this;
asdvzlwj.jpg

are supposed to mock what people really look and what they are told to look like (sexy guy, muscular, huge bulge in pants) So it criticises s both of those, the fat lazy guy and the unreachable imagery of a "perfect man"

The problem is that now Dante looks almost exactly like the guy in the poster. So he himself became that caricature that he's actually supposed to make fun of.

It reminds me of this scene in fight club where Edward Norton and Brad Pitt look at a Calvin Klein poster in the bus (showing some male model's sixpack) and Norton says sarcastically "Is that what a man looks like?" and the they both laugh.
Ignoring that Brad Pitt actually completely fulfills this imagery with his perfect abs, that he shows off about every fifth scene or so.

New Dante looks like a street kid that sells himself on the side, he's far further from idealized than the old Dante design was.

Looks good, but that's a given for Ninja Theory, as Enslaved and Heavenly Sword also looked good. Unfortunately they had some of the worst input lag this side of Kinect. So my question is, is the Ninja Theory input lag still there?

Please say no (and mean it)!

Just to clarify, when I talk about the "new Dante" I mean the design that they introduced 2011 or so. I would have preferred them to stay with the 2010 design that showed a much skinnier Dante.

From impressions seems like there are no such shenanigans. It's as responsive as can be.

No one mentioned anything about a lock-on button. In fact, I thought it was pretty clear that lock-on generally isn't needed. Even if it was a lock-on button, make it toggle and not hold. There's some extra functionality.

The layout is fine for the commands that have been determined. However, with a smarter layout, a whole extra button is available for, well, ANYTHING. I can't imagine any scenario where this is a bad thing.

Ugh. I find it sad they (NT) have to resort to this to make it edgy and cool.

The fact an ancient being is doing that kills it for me, this young nudante just has an unlikable personality, and the cheese delivered as stale and predictably as possible (you know what.......................... you're too clingy) i want Devil may cry, not this mediocre/passable facsimile. they have greatness as a template so i'm not surprised they're making a competent game, but its a horrible Devil may cry, those who have or had no love for the character and the franchise will never understand.

Don't suppose anyone wants to be a star and take a screengrab of the masked guy (
Vergil
) when he turns his head to the side while talking (in the trailer)? I'm pretty sure I see white hair, which would be something.

Edit: Did it myself:

WvQag.jpg

Wonder if there is a crisper version of the trailer somewhere though.

Dahbomb

Yeah I noticed the white hair too along with other DMC fans who looked closely.

He is also wearing a blue shirt underneath the black trenchcoat. There is a blue symbol on his left white armband, probably the symbol of the Order.

Combat looks waaaaay looser than previous games, but it's nothing horrible. The actually decent story that Ninja Theory put in this game (right?) will make it easy to ignore.
