Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

Wow really? Looks a lot younger.
The day he completely retires will be very sad. Hell, I get sad thinking of any of the big 3 leaving haha. When I think of Nintendo I think Miyamoto, Iwata and Reggie. It won't be the same without them!

Speaking of Miyamoto I'm pretty sure the WiiU and the 3DS will be his last hurrah at Nintendo. 65 is a good age to retire and he has certainly earned the right to enjoy his silver years in the best way he sees fit. I wouldn't be shocked to see him put out a pet project or two while he's retired though, which is exactly what he mentioned in the Wire interview that caused such an uproar.

Edit: Also, no offense to Reggie, but he is not on the same level of standing as Iwata and Miyamoto.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Probably not worth a new thread or anything, but I thought this was a pretty concrete statement by Moffitt that there is still more launch games to be announced:

Q: You have some new games for hard-core gamers but I didn't see "Call of Duty" or "Battlefield" for the Wii U. Can you get the core gamer if you don't have those titles on there?

A: E3 for us is all about games. We're focusing on that first pillar of the three pillars of what E3 can offer. Over 20 games were unveiled. That's a pretty broad lineup. But I can assure you even more games will be coming during the launch period so if there's a favorite game that gamers like, I think there's a good chance it will be coming to the platform. .... I would expect that gamers will see an immense array of first- and third-party content at launch.

I *think* he is probably referring to CoD here.

He didn't do great on stage but I gotta give props to Moffitt now because it seems like he's been delivering in interviews. First he gave us the VC transfer news and now possible third party bombs being dropped.

And by his look, I'd say if was impressed.

Just checking, NSMB U has been officially confirmed several times as an actual launch day title and not just "launch window," correct?

Edit: Anybody else get the special Scott Moffitt Streetpass tag via spot pass? I want that NES hat he has!

NSMBU is listed as "Holiday" instead of "Launch Window", so this likely means you'll have it when the system launches (which is almost certainly to be the Sunday before Black Friday).

Unless "Holiday" actually means December. i_i Yes, that'd be sales suicide having Mario miss Nov and they probably won't do it but ya never know (and yes I worry too much sometimes).

I've seen a ton of sites say Mario at launch, but I think we all know how web misinformation works. Some said Reggie said launch, but he may have said launch window or something and been misunderstood. Hard to know until Nintendo announces it formally, I guess. I'd still bet on launch, though.

It better be, it's the only reason I'm currently set to buy the system day one. If they bump Mario I won't think twice about skipping the launch just like I did with 3DS.

If COD is coming onto the console, and I'm almost positive it is, then it would be a BIG mistake to launch Nov. 18th.

Nov. 11th would make way more sense, as COD launches Nov 13th and most people buy it the first day or two.

I don't think it's worth it to hold back for 7 days, a number likely to be inconsequential in the long run, just to stick to what they've done historically.

I'm not saying Nintendo would actually sell more consoles at launch on 11/11 vs. 11/18, but I would think that COD WiiU would sell significantly more if available at launch, which honestly will likely have future repercussions with further third party support going forward. Disappointing sales for the "best" version of COD may mean things like no Watch Dogs. IMO.

I really don't think it'd matter much. Those who want to buy it within the first couple of days will likely own a 360/PS3 anyway and will get it for that platform. It wouldn't matter to the Nintendo purchasers because they will all buy at the same time anyway. There is no cross platform play after all.

I'm not sure - I know some guys who would be tempted to pick up the WiiU with COD if they knew it was the best version, especially with some clever gamepad interaction... but that's just a random anecdotal example and could be off-base.

Yeah. Nov. 18 is the obvious choice date, but at the same time, with them trying to get third party games back, they want to be out of them. Quite honestly, the good relationship they have with Ubisoft, I would not rule out a launch to coincide with Assassins Creed 3.

Or, the system's September release puts Mario just outside of the launch window, so Nintendo listed it as "Holiday" to let us know Mario's still coming out this year.

Edit: beaten by proof

Sure there's bound to be some, but I still think the bulk will stick to their platform. Also, if someone really wanted the Wii U version but also had a 360/PS3, they'd only have to hold out a week.

There were suppose to be three unknown games to be announced at E3 on the last day via the IGN list. Does anyone know what those games ended up being? Was one a Wii U or 3DS game?

They all win.

Arcades will make a triumphant return as a result as people flock to find TANK TANK TANK machines, we all win.
