Best challenge in the game. Mortarpod makes for some fun interactions.

Yeah for sure, haha. Although it wasn't crazy hard anything, I thought the praetor challenge was really cute as well. These are constructed so carefully.

I completely forgot that recalling the batterskull returns it to your hand as the card you morphed into it, in my case the sculpting steel. Much easier to forget when you're staring at a computer screen as opposed to holding the cards.

I'm still trying to decide between the iPad and the Steam version of this game. Are there any differences between the two versions, other than the controls?

Also, what are the chances of this game going on sale during the Steam summer sale? I know it just launched, so I wonder if they would discount it so soon.

So I played this card and it made me kill my own artifact because my oponent didn't have one on the board. Is this working as intended? I couldnt find a way to cancel the purple arrow to select an artifact to destroy.

Yes, that is correct. If a card doesn't say "may" and there is a valid target available you have to target it.

And yeah, Challenge 8 was fantastic. Though I totally did the
return copied Batterskull to your hand as a Sculpting Steel thing
on accident.

Just to reiterate ultron there, if a card doesn't have a "may" clause you *have* to do it. So always be careful when playing things with an enter the battlefield ability as you can screw yourself pretty bad.

Anybody else miss the coop campaign from Magic 2011?

My wife and I would play this mode all the time. She became so excited we unlocked almost every card in every deck. But then the 2012 removed the coop campaign for the Archenemy Mode, which wasn't as good.

No the 2013 there is absolutely no local multiplayer except for "custom games"! I'm sorry custom games just aren't as fun. There's no sense of progression. You can have two-headed giant with a local player online, but my wife isn't as comfortable playing online. Plus it can take FOREVER to find two people willing to match up against you.

I've bought all three games and the original still has the best graphics, sound and game modes.

I like that the challenge made you dig deep into your library, yet the moves you make to win are all correct even if you don't know what's coming up next in your library. That's why I didn't like challenge 10
even though you had to really challenge yourself to find the solution, the fact that the key to the puzzle was five cards deep in your library and you needed to ring the bell after tutoring for goblins was kind of silly, since in a "real" situation, you would have to have gotten rather lucky to make that move naturally

PS3. Just surprising to see in a non-F2P game is all.

On another note: does Rite of Replication not work against opponents? I didn't see it say that on the card, but when I played it against a Hydra it just disappeared.

It does work against opponent creatures, but when you copy a Primordial Hydra (or any card on the battlefield that has an X cost) the X is set to 0. So you get a 0/0 Hydra token that instantly dies due to having 0 toughness.

This is different than if you copy a spell as it is being cast (with a card like Twincast) where whatever value was paid for X is copied.

platform?

Ive gotten those on steam as well

Crap like that has gotten me a bit worried about how they will handle the upcoming 'promotional' cards.

I am not going to go to a magic event and I really do not want to either lose out on those cards or have to buy those promotional cards along with the expansion set, just so I can compete with the people who actually went to those events.

I guess it really wouldnt be a problem if those promotional cards werent so awesome. Basically, if they make me pay extra for it or only have it for people who went to some magic event, I am done with this game.

If those magic event goes just get the cards earlier than i do, and the promotional cards are included in the expansion, that would be fine though.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Jesus.....so many ads. Just got one for beating campaign and another for the first in revenge...wtf is this?

All DotP really is is a gateway drug to try and get people into the paper card game. Judging by my group of friends, they succeeded last year lol

man, what a downer. not really eager to buy this now, lol.

They really aren't a big deal. Just a screen that pops up that'll say something like "You beat Talrand! You can get his card for reals if you buy this intro deck!" and then you can just instantly click continue.

Anybody having trouble with the Goblin Deck? By turn 3, he usually has like 5 goblins with haste out and I'm just putting out a card. I feel like I don't even have a chance if he goes first. I literally had to switch to the red spell deck to kill him, after multiple tries.

I don't know if the intent was to create "balanced" decks or just give variety. But fuck those goblins.

Red burn was the right choice.

Yeah the Goblin deck was the toughest for me to beat in the whole game actually, and I was using the starting green deck most of the time, except for a few of the encounters. What is the "Revenge" campaign? Just the same planeswalkers with better decks?

I'm embarrassed to say I can't beat Chandra in the campaign.

I coasted everything up to this point, and I've tried 4 or 5 different decks now, but I just have no answer for those Instants. Not even using Jace's deck.

I actually finally managed it just now with the Elf deck. Might have been just luck, though, she only cast a single instant throughout.

Ads did not faze me one bit, I am unlocking 300 cards you think 7 or so screens that can be instantly skipped means anything?

If it were ads for taco bell or vagisil, maybe.

Hmm, booted up the game on my desktop after playing a bit on my laptop and it doesn't have any of my save information. Steam cloud is enabled. I really hope it hasn't wiped all my progress, I was getting close to fully unlocking a few decks.

I was able to stomp my way through the opening campaign on planeswalker pretty easily. Then I moved onto Revenge. Now I know why I hated this series. The computer gets God-draw 5 out of 6 times and it floods you with land or gives you three and none in five draws. I'm no stranger to bad draws in real life, but this game is ridiculous. Just makes it unfun.

With Mindmoil you can turn extra lands into something more useful. Once you hit 5 lands, keep the rest in your hand until you play this enchantment.

Goblin Guide is useful because it can swing for 2 damage on your first turn. The general idea is to kill the opponent before he has the chance to recover from the early damage. I don't think there is a good way to avoid the drawback.

The drawback on Goblin Guide is irrelevant when you're beating them in the face for 2 turn 1. Everyone should run this card in the Goblin deck and be happy that you got a hasty 2/2 for 1 mana.

To each their own but i'll never understand this mentality. The ads are not that bad, it's one screen telling you about the overall Magic Universe. Like someone else mentioned, this game is meant to be a gateway to paper or magic online. The fact that people won't buy a solid game because there are a few seconds of non annoying ads (it is about the game you're playing not selling you tampons) is beyond me.

More often than not, the "drawback" isn't really a drawback, especially if you're on the play. He gives you free information that will help you shape your turns. Knowing what exact deck they're playing plus what they're going to draw is immense, especially for playing goblins.

ultron87

The drawback is probably slightly worse for the Goblin player in this game specifically since all the decks have a metric ton of land to filter through. But not enough so that beating them for 2 on Turn 1 isn't still totally worth it.

Archenemy > Planechase. :|

Such a stupid concept because half the time the AI will gang up on you and you have no ability to block them all.

Every time I am the one to start the game against the PC I do not get a card and start with 7.

Is this a known bug?

That's just part of the rules in 1v1 games. Playing first ("being on the play") is a big advantage in terms of timing and tempo so it is balanced out by having the first player skip their first draw so that the other player gets an extra card ("being on the draw"). Even with the extra card playing first is still better in the vast majority of situations.

Yup, although there are various formats that cut that pool down to a few hundred or a few thousand. The types and strategies that you can create vary wildly from one year to the next, its a lot of fun to keep up with.

I just wish it didn't cost so damn much. I can't afford hundreds and hundreds every few months when a new set drops. The cost is the only thing keeping from going all in on magic online.

Anyone else having connection issues? I haven't been able to join a game in two days now. Just keeps saying "unable to join session" when I do quick match. :(

I just do online custom matches. At least I know a game exists when i try to join a game there

So what are the main drawbacks of this game, Gaf?

Limited deck customization, cheap AI, the RNG for shuffling seems screwy sometimes and semi-frequent ads (but the ads are a screen of text you get through with a single click)
It is only $10, so I'd say its still worth it.

Is the AI in this game worse than 2012 or something? It has basically killed itself a couple of times now, doing some really stupid things. I'm talking moves that have no logical explanation at all.

Sure the AI wasn't perfect in 2012 either, but it was kind of rare for it to make decisions that didn't at least make some sort of sense.

EDIT: Highest difficulty btw.

I'm trying my hardest to make this mill deck work. Anyone have success with it? I feel like I need more control and less ways to mill them.

Been spending most of my time getting all cards for certain decks. Almost done getting all of the 1st blue deck's cards and overall...yeah it's not the strongest IMO.

I see what some mean by Jace's deck not necessarily being the strongest ^_^;
...but I like it regardless, it's one of those troll decks one can use online XP

My fav. deck in 2012 was White & Blue+Green. I also liked Black and Jace's deck in 2012, but those 2 were my fav.
Gonna try out the 2 white decks in later days and see if I like them.

Here's hoping one of the DLC decks is Red+Green.

I've had it do some funny stuff with the fog wall, seems like they didn't update all of the AI patterns with the cards.

they also didnt upgrade the AI to cope with a mill strategy. Bolas sure likes to help you a ton if you are trying to beat him that way
