Ghostlight is asking if we would like to see more JRPGs on PC

And considering that they are Trails in the Sky EU publisher I'd say that this is good news indeed!
Could they possibly be teaming up with XSEED?

Finally, I’ve recently heard talk around the office of bringing some console JRPGs to the PC to allow more people to enjoy the style of gaming we all love. Would this be something you would be interested in? I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.

What do you think about it?

More interesting: Ghostlight might use their development studio to port them to PC.
Porting would be most likely although if a good Japanese PC game was available at the right price then you never know. We're one of the few publishers of Japanese games with our own in house development team (who usually release their own games as Laughing Jackal www.laughingjackal.co.uk)so either it would be done in house or by the Japanese. It's still in the early stages of discussion though so I'm not sure that has been decided yet.

So we might be talking about more than Trails in the Sky here.

Insert obligatory M.Bison gif in here

More jRPG's on PC. Please!!! (But on Steam, please. Let them be worldwide) :)

I haven't thought about that!!! \(O_O)/

The main reason of why XSeed had difficulties in bringing the games on PC was that they don't have a development studio!
So that means that Ghostlight could do the programming and XSeed manage the translation??
Someone get that Hype-Extinguisher! I'm on fire!!

I'd like to see stuff like Catherine, SMT etc but not stuff like Agarest: Generations of War. Although I think the saying "beggars can't be choosers" fits perfectly here.

Oath in Felghana is pretty damn cool on pc, I hope we see more of its ilk. So nice not being forced to play on a psp or whatever.

convert psp games that will never sell in the west to pc please

The thing is, most of the games that people would be interested in are on systems like PSP, and PSP -> PC is probably not going to be a pretty conversion.

Wouldn't turn me away from a lot of things if they were well done, but I imagine some people would be disappointed by low-res/low poly assets and stuff like that, especially when dealing with games that rely heavily on 2D artwork.

Since I've already said this in the comments of our blog and haven't got in trouble yet I guess I'm allowed to give you one more bit of info. To start off with we'll be looking at games with English translations for the first few games. Beyond that well it will depend how it goes I guess.

SMT on PC? Wow I am in. So in.

I wonder if there's a possibility for Nocturne or Persona...

I have no issue with that. I think you'll find that a lot of us PC gamers (at least on NeoGAF) have no aversions to buying console -> PC ports even if we've played the original console title...and here's the caveat: as long as it's a decent port.

That means widescreen resolution support if at all posible (though we'll understand if the game engine can't support it), no 30fps framerate cap, customizable controls, gamepad support (360 controller integration is a big plus), and Steamworks integration (achievements, cloud saving) is another big plus.

There are plenty of console RPGs that could be ported. I would be just as interested, if not more so, in those titles.

The Digital Devil Sage PS2 classics delay is out of our hands I'm afraid. We're still waiting for Sony on that one :(

As for Devil Survivor they're both still on course and their release won't be delayed by this as the most of the guys from Laughing Jackal aren't really involved with that side of things.

Hmm. But are you picking up Persona 4 Golden, or has anyone else gotten to it yet?

Yo, keep up the good work. Can't wait to get me some Devil Survivor in PAL land.

I was actually thinking along the lines of using this as a manner to release otherwise unlocalized games, consoles aren't suffering near as much in that regard.

But that thought was kind of debunked just a couple posts later.

It would be a bit daft to try and pretend we're not interested but at this point I don't have any news on that one.

Keep us in the loop. :)

The prospect of more JRPGs on PC is very exciting to me...the JRPG landscape on PC feels quite barren, outside of XSEED and CarpeFulgur's recent efforts.

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
Well if we were to use a nice online distribution system *cough* Steam *cough* that wouldn't be an issue.

...And to think, I almost didn't click this thread because I'm a filthy Yank.

My interest is piqued, but I don't know you or your dev team that well (no offense meant) and I don't know what games you're looking at. If it's something I'm interested in and the port is decent, I'm in.

Been there, said my things (that people don't have to agree with, but as I've said: I'm most likely in a minority and it's impossible/too hard for the devs/publisher, I can understand that).

honestly out of ghostlight I would rather see rpgs the US DOESNT have localized.

This way we can import and ghostlight can see even more profit, and perphaps some buzz

If?
Dear ghostlight to support eu publisher i buy us, buy eu, finish us and keep eu copy pristine for every jrpg that gets a release date in the old world, so......

I think if they were able to bring some well ported cult classics to PC that would generate a lot of buzz for Ghostlight, moreso than titles that have yet to be localized.

Cool. [cheap plug] An if you want to check out any of the Laughing Jackal games OMG-Z (http://www.laughingjackal.co.uk/games/omg-z) and Vibes (http://www.laughingjackal.co.uk/games/vibes) are two of my favourites. I even got to choose some of the music in Vibes :) [/cheap plug]
