EXCUSE ME!?!?

I SWEAR I WILL JUST QUIT SE. WE WILL BE DONE.

Unlikely when we just saw a trailer last year. The problem with Versus probably has less to do with development hell and more to do with development being effectively postponed until after FFXIII.

so........

i don't know anything about FFXIII or Versus.

what's so special about Versus that people are wanting it so badly? its just another FF isn't it? :\

I wouldn't be surprise if it's true. Square Enix has to show something between their September announcement and the Tokyo Game Show then after that. I will believe the cancellation rumor.

It's been in development for 5+ years. So to speak.

You're going to discredit them for a rumor article? That's a bit harsh, no?

This is a bit like yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. For Kotaku's sake, if they really wanted to bullshit around with a rumor like this they would've given it a small blurb in a totally unrelated article.

What's interesting about Versus is its (Apparently) real-time, non-menu combat and "open" level design (Which the series seemed to be heading for with Final Fantasy XII, the best thing to happen to the series in quite some time, and completely reject with Final Fantasy XIII).

If they rejected Versus in favour of developing more games in the vein of Final Fantasy XIII, then it would be a sobering statement on how much Square-Enix values progress over primitivism.

Versus always seemed a bit too ambitious for the current gen hardware, but its still hard to believe that they spent so many years on a game that will either never come out or will have to be redone.

so what? if versus gets cancelled, there's still the XIII sequels right? and then XV? etc...

ok that makes more sense. thanks.

Square's Executive team when they announced the news internally... it's like they never wanted us to have the FF games we want!:

Lol this is perfect! Gif is perfect, love that movie too.

But also what you say is sadly true :( We have gotten one surprise or anything we wanted this gen regarding FF. No KH3, no FF7R, and no Versus13. We just keep getting FF13 sequel after sequel. I thought XIII-2 was a big improvement over XIII, but by all means I dont want the next FF title to be XIII-3. Holy Mother of god! They must just love screwing us over 3 ways from sunday!

I just want FFXII-2, FFXII-3, FFXII-4, FFXII-5... FFXII-12, Square. WHY U NO WORK ON FFXII INSTEAD OF FFXIII!?

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

Nobody outside of the most deranged otakus wants more XIII. Not that Versus would have been any good, but it would have been different.

Goes against information I was told quite recently, which was that Nomura is hard at work on the game and something of it will be shown at TGS.
I really hope you're right, but the lack of info is disturbing.

Reminds me of how Rising was almost cancelled. We didnt get new info in almost a year or so. Maybe they should outsource.

If "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" as a game no longer exist, then I sincerely hope that its (Preferably improved upon) designs find their way into a future Final Fantasy title, as it genuinely seemed like something that would move the franchise in the right direction. There is nothing I dislike worse than the statement "If it isn't broke, don't fix it," which seems to be Square's defining game development philosophy. Ideas never stop evolving, and therefore art never stops involving. There is always room for improvement.

IMO if the game isn't cancelled they'll come right out say it and discredit the rumor as it would be bad marketing for the future release.

If they remain silent it could only mean that the game has undergone a title change/been absorbed into another project(multiplatform FFXV), or has been outright canceled. I don't see how else we could perceive a no comment type statement going forward as this rumor gains more steam. I'm sure all the main sites will be running with this story tomorrow.

I was talking to duckroll about this the other day actually, and it's all very similar to the FFXII situation where there was literally months and months of no new info.

While i hope the game is not cancel i don't even care that much if it is .
It becoming FFXV or coming out next gen would be interesting in a way .
