Gunman kills twelve at theater in Aurora Colorado

Everything is always to be considered unconfirmed this earily on, as seen by 15 death count and baby shooting being debunked, but tv is saying shooter had no military connection and no crime record. Very weird.

All I can think of is a Jihad type thing, but that usually ends in a suicide.

If you do that you will never be able to live your life the way you want. 9/11 sure as heck did not stop me from flying, so why should a shooting spree in a theater prevent me from ever watching movies again? Just keep thinking that way. The losses are terrible but do not allow it to get a grip on your life because if you do, the shooter wins.

Japan has an Earthquake. Nuclear plant starts spewing nuclear waste. There is a debate on Nuclear energy.

Now the nuclear plant didn't create the Earthquake, and there were a lot of people affected; but the debate was open within minutes of the incident becoming clear.


Am not going to get into a debate, I've said my part, but I don't want to debate it. But its not sickening for people to discuss it. Politics is life and life is politics. This is important, its also 'scary' for many people; they want to let that emotion out.

Shit like this makes me so angry. What's worse is the media coverage of these type things encourages other malcontents to do the same. I feel just completely awful for the victims. Something needs to stop this and I don't know what will.

No problem, it was not my intention to imply that - I could see why you would have thought it at the time though!

A hospital update:
  • Twelve people were taken to the Medical Center of Aurora, including three who were treated for chemical exposure, most likely from tear gas. Their age ranged from 16 to 31.
  • The University of Colorado hospital treated the most number, with 21 people receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, including a three-month-old baby. The oldest was 45.
  • Denver Health Center had seven victims, while six patients were treated at Children's Hospital Colorado, including a six-year-old child.
Also, police are saying no public traffic will be allowed onto the complex today, but that's a given really.

I try to think about that and can only come up with: they snapped. Still feels like a pretty flimsy reason though and I'm sure there's more to it that we'll never find out.

I really feel like they need to sit this guy down and go over every single person whose life he ruined this morning so he can indentify with his victims the way we've indentified with them and really understand what he's done. Or would that not have any effect on a crazy person... Death penalty seems too easy for this.

Looks like someone jumped the gun on the online profiles. They do belong to a James Holmes, but he's a 52 year old who also happens to live in Aurora, CO.

To give a semi-official spin to it, please keep the gun control talk out of this thread. This event adds nothing to that discussion on either side. Discussion of it here adds nothing helpful to the nature of this specific event.

If you feel the need to talk about gun control on either side, there's a thread for that already. If you really feel the need to relate the two, there's probably room for a separate thread on the issue as it relates to this shooting (clue: it doesn't, and knee-jerk reactions to crimes like this will almost always be a bad thing).

Yikes. Good thing my parents and sister aren't that into Batman otherwise they probably would have been there since they always go to that theater (it has $6 general admission which is awesome).

Also nice to see Dr.Forester is okay.

Not sure why people think this guy "snapped".. He was insanely prepared and knew exactly what he was doing, especially if he fired into the air first.
