Wow.

Agreed, wrong or not, I have zero interest in seeing this movie right now. Was going to go with two friendss tomorrow...now, I think I'll just stay home. I don't think I'd enjoy it.

thats even more dumb, sorry, but looks like the terrorist achieved his objective, strike fear in the heart of people. well done.

So every theater?

What the what. That's a lot of police.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
It's being reported that "items of interest" have been found in the suspect apartment.

Who says that was his objective?

I don't think it's fear. More of a buzzkill.

NYC has 50,000-60,000 cops. They can put a couple guys at every movie theater for a weekend. Though I don't think there will be any copycat attacks.

  • According to AP, workers could be seen pulling down the red carpet display in front of a cinema on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

I still can't wrap my head around the brutality and inhumanity of this event.

I wanted to express my feelings over this in a way that didn't trite or cliche. sat here for 30 minutes, thinking of something, anything to say that would accurately represent my thoughts on this event and that would fully relay how much the enormity of this event has racked my emotions, in effort to offer adequate condolences to those effected.

But I can't. Nothing profound, nothing clever. I am gripped by anger. This feeling of forcing myself to hold in a torrent of expletives and things I would want to happen to these monsters, it is making me feel sick. But it's but a small iota of what those aurora movie-goers and their friends, loved ones are feeling, I know it.

I'm so, so sorry for everyone involved.

I got grudge sucked!
I think that's extreme, but the cast celebrating the movie after this is a little extreme and in poor taste. the outrage would've been palpable if they had carried through with it. it's a smart decision, not dumb.

I'm not as worried at being shot as any decent sized municipality is going to be patrolling the theatres this weekend. More like knowing 12 people who just wanted to have a good time were gunned down watching this. It feels wrong right now, like "oh well, sucks for them" gesture. To make it clear, thats how I feel about me, not about people who want to see it anyway. People deal with shit like this differently.

I have to admit, I am glad I'm getting a refund for four IMAX tickets tomorrow evening and going the following weekend instead. I had to do it because something came up, but I agree with the above poster. I don't think I would have enjoyed it very much.

Hopefully we get details on his motivations soon without the usual media slant.

Truly horrifying and tragic. I feel terrible for friends and family of the victims.

This actually has been an irrational (so I thought) fear of mine before. I've actually imagined what I would do in a situation like this in a movie theater. I don't think I'm going to be able to go to the movies for a while.
It's still entirely irrational. Orders of magnitude more likely to die while driving to the movie theater than in a mass shooting at a movie theater.

This is awful stuff, though.

I am going to see it in Manhattan tomorrow and I have to admit the thought did cross my mind. Living in NYC its always sorta in the back of your mind but you live as best as you can.

Hopefully the extra security makes everyone feel safe or safer.

I'm nearly came close to slapping someone at work who just asked me,

"Hey, did you know anyone there? No. Thank God. Are there alot of Muslims in Denver?"

"What."

"You know."

"The shooter is allegedly a 24 year old white male."

"He could have been converted."

I really feel like they need to sit this guy down and go over every single person whose life he ruined this morning so he can indentify with his victims the way we've indentified with them and really understand what he's done. Or would that not have any effect on a crazy person... Death penalty seems too easy for this.

He would just take enjoyment out of it or be completely unsympathetic. Obviously the guy doesn't give a shit if he went ahead and shot up the place.

Absolutely horrible, my thoughts go out to all of those involved.

I still can't get over why guns are legal in America though, it's disgusting, and what's worse is an alarming amount of people support the use of them.

It's so infuriating that a psychopath like this can just destroy so many lives in a matter of minutes. My condolences to the victims and their families and friends. So fucking senseless.

I have CNN on in the background, Pat Brown, criminal profiler.

Typical for that discussion to be starting already I suppose, I've actually seen her on things before, she comes off as a total idiot. I don't think She's even really a criminal profiler in any official trained sense.

Whenever I go to theaters I sometimes think about how that is my worst fear there. So many people gathered, in the dark, without security. It's bound to happen somewhere. My thoughts go out to those affected by this senseless tragedy...

What do we know about the shooter this far?

24 year old white male, lives in North Aurora, near the old Fitzsimmons Army Base. Has a vehicle with Tennesee plates.

It'll especially be shocking when and if they release the CCTV footage in the lobby of the cinema, and how it all started.

I'm waiting for cell phone video to come out. A lot of the people there haven't been able to get home because they made them keep their cars there.

Awful. Just awful. Thoughts go out to the families.

I hope the media don't turn this into another "violent video games and movies are the root cause of all psychopaths"

Yeah, she sounded like an idiot.

Lets not mention the fact that anything this guy brought with him is easily accessible. Or the fact that this guy probably did plan this attack. Nah, instead he went to redbox, got the latest dudebro shooter, holed himself up and got his anticipation up by playing video games for days.

Without any facts to support this claim whatsoever.

From Denver CBS Affiliate KCNC

A man is under arrest after the mass shooting in Aurora that took place during a showing of the movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

CBS News confirmed the man’s name is James Holmes, 24. Police are conducting an extensive search at the apartment that’s believed to be his.

The apartment is located near the intersection of Peoria and 17th. Officers are using surveillance cameras and a fire engine ladder to look inside the window of the apartment, located on third floor.

CBS News reports that the apartment appears to be booby trapped and contains “buckets of ammunition.”

The FBI has joined local police in the investigation. Aurora police said officers from agencies across the Denver metro area have been assisting them with the investigation.

The police presence includes SWAT Teams and bomb disposal units.

Edit: Just realised there's a thread for that.

Yes, there's a thread for that, and FFS. It is easier to get guns illegally in the USA than go the legal route.

That has nothing to do with it. Have you ever gotten on an airplane to fly somewhere less than a couple hours after a major airline disaster? I have. November 12, 2001. While the rational side of you knows that the odds of it happening again are tiny, your desire to actually get on that plane is even smaller. That rational part of my mind needed time to overcome the emotional side, which was full of thoughts of the dead and a touch of survival instinct.

If what some other posters have said is true, it sounds like CNN is already doing their best to shit up the flow of untainted information.

That's really too bad. Yes, he probably did play videogames, he is a 24 year old male. Just like I'm sure he shaved and watched porn and violent movies. The videogames slant to these stories has gotten beyond old. Dude was insane, and I'm sure it will eventually come out that some other factor (bullying, abused as a child, bi-polar, etc.) was the real culprit.

Increased security is a result of fear.

If that wasn't the case going to the airport will be like it was Pre 9/11.

The 9/11 terrorist attack was obviously a case of terrorism.

I think putting a few cops at a movie theater for a weekend is a good precaution, it doesn't mean we are going to be getting our assholes examined every time we go to the theater.
