Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) News and Announcements Thread - 2012 Edition

FYI, for those interested in Deadlight, the timer in-game is inaccurate. Chatting with Tequila Works there is apparently a bug that is resetting it at some points. I'm not sure if it's a full reset or somehow resetting like, that particular minute or whatever, but it sounds complex.

I've been told that in the end it is basically running at only half speed, which in turn means the game is actually twice as long as the clock says. Just a heads up!

Doesn't change how short the game is, it took me maybe 4 hours. And that was mostly down to restarting sections either because of death or the fact I stopped playing cause I was so annoyed. When you go back after quitting it starts you back at the start the section, which can be about 10 or 15 minutes back time wise.

The only problem I've seen with it is that when you die, the timer goes back to the time you were on at the last checkpoint, so it's as if you hadn't died at all. It certainly feels accurate aside from that.

I've been told it also has something to do with various events in the game causing the timer to not line up.. cutscenes, diaries, death.

Again, I haven't played it yet myself, but the team quickly realized their leaderboard times were being beaten consistently and realized there was a bug (and I'm fairly certain no one could play it faster than them).

If anyone has impressions of the new content and update for Pinball Arcade, please post. It seems a lot of people are curious about quality issues before buying, given Farsight's track record.

I'm not a pinball expert but everything seems fine here.
I bought Bride of Pin-bot and Medieval Madness and they are working properly.
They look great(I think they have updated lighting) and there is no noticable lag whatsoever even in 1080p.
Biggest gripe as of right now is that leaderboards aren't working, even for old tables lol.
I don't know how the other two tables work though.
Update for core tables is not available yet so there is nothing to report yet.

Pinball Arcade packs are so bought. Glad to see 360 version is back at the top of the heap again... too bad they're having so many problems across all platforms, though.

Too bad the Rewards deal this month (240 points back on 1600 points of sports) is pretty worthless. Unless I'm missing something essential?

The update for the existing tables is broken. It download to 99%, then flips back and forth between 0% and 99% and never finishes. Apparently it will be fixed today (the 2nd) though.

The new content works OK for the most part, but the leaderboards are borked. The Cirqus Voltaire table has the same bug as one of the original tables - sometimes when you start a game, you just get the "table tour" where it pans around the table, rather than the game actually starting, so you have to exit the game (that particular game of pinball, not Pinball Arcade itself) and restart, then it'll work.

Some of the views are a bit weird. When you go to launch the ball, sometimes you'll get a top-down close-up view. When you get a multi-ball, you get a view where the camera is really low on the table and changing the view only switches between 2 very similar camera positions, rather than the regular selection of views you get when there's only 1 ball in play. It's a bit annoying as it makes some shots hard to hit.

I would still recommend the new tables though as they're great IMO, unless leaderboards are something you really care about.

I really like Cirqus Voltaire. Never played it before.

Bride of Pinbot gets pretty boring fast, but it's a cheap thrill at first.

Funhouse and Medieval Madness require no defense. They're the best of the best.

I usually buy one or two xbla titles a year and i really thought deadlight was gonna be this years contender. I couldnt have been more wrong i liked the demo dont get me wrong but something was..... off. I ended up thanks to reading a random thread on gaf picking up fuzion. I are in love how did i miss this game.

Posters in the Pinball Arcade OT are saying the 360 updates are pretty much working as intended now. This appears to be once again the best version of the game, all things considered. Check out the other thread for more details, but it looks like it's safe to dive in.

PID still looks awesome and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I had never even heard of pid, and the boxart doesn't do much to sell it to me. 12 hours of puzzles and platforming, though? GOING TO FIND TRAILER.

Wow, pid is at the top of my list too.

Achievements and leaderboards are broken. The achievements for the new tables, sadly, are trivial, so getting them again wouldn't be a problem. (What happens is that they unlock on your local profile, but never get pushed to Microsoft. I can't believe that's even possible.)

I've had my eye on Pid for a while now. Looks so cool. I just hope the gameplay is my sorta thing.

When people say it has a "listed release date of Sep 5th", where are they getting that date? I looked the game up on Xbox.com and I don't see a date.

You click on overview and arrow right to where it lists developer, have to have region on en-US on address bar.
Normaly gives an estimated date, date first piece of content went up or rare occasions simply 2099.
For instance that Avatar FameStar date for today, when I posted it yesterday there was no content. Today a new video was uploaded which was listed as release date.

Eh, bummer. TPA just can't get it right.

Oh man! I thought PID was a 2013 game! That's awesome!

And yeah, this whole summer of arcade is pretty much a waste. Hybrid isn't a bad game, but it's definitely not for me.

Might and Delight said couple of weeks ago they were set for September release, D3 are publishing the XBLA version.
Steam and PlayStation Network editions will be self-published.

FYI -- Due to the persistent online only nature of the game there will be no prelaunch reviews of Hybrid. We will be giving out codes to press launch day. They will be playing in a live environment just like their readers.

Good! I have a feeling this is what caused A LOT of bad ChromeHounds reviews.

I will be silently (or not so silently) judging sites that have reviews up with a day or two. :p

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
So now that it's been a couple weeks since Dungeon Fighter Live came out, does anyone have any opinions on the game?

Haven't heard much good of Deadlight. Dud?

I am surprised it has not gotten better reviews. I love it. Actually came into this thread to hopefully persuade people to not pass this up due to some of the reviews.

I don't even know how to explain how much I have enjoyed this game. I love the 2.5D perspective in gaming. Shadow Complex is probably by favourite XBLA title and I think this comes in at #4 now (behind Bastion and Limbo).
Some reviews have complained about the controls. Well if you have played the old school Prince of Persia games then you will not have a problem with these controls. If you haven't then, well it will take a bit to get used to it.
Trial and error gaming? Yes exactly like the old PoP games, Limbo, the first two Oddworld games and Out of this World. I never enough times in one spot to ever get upset and the checkpoints are pretty much perfect.

Seriously a great game. Enjoying my second run through right now.

I was considering buying the Lara Croft DLC until I realized that they never released DLC Pack #2 for 360 and apparently never will.

I still have Pack #1 from when it was free but haven't played it, should I bother with Pack #3?

So now that it's been a couple weeks since Dungeon Fighter Live came out, does anyone have any opinions on the game?

I picked it up despite my misgivings after having played the terrible demo...I'm just desperate for a new quality BEU. :/

So far, I've played it just for local four-player play and it's grindy, but fun once you start getting a few 'dungeons' in and pick up new skills and gear. The worst part, outside of the terrible menu/town/inventory/shop interface, which is clunky and poorly-made for controllers and big screens people are sitting ten feet away from, is the insistence on telling a story no one should give a fuck about, since it's your usual mildly too-serious high fantasy/steampunk wannabe K-anime trash. Thankfully, you can skip all of the bloated and unnecessary details, comic panels, and dialogue that hold no resonance with the game experience. Good HD artwork in those story bits and town/interaction portraits, though. Still wish the game had better and more animation over HD res artwork. If you can hang with Arc System games (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear) and their similarly choppy, starved-for-frames movement, you'll be fine, especially as the action speeds up with more aggressive mobs and more fast-traveling attack techniques are earned. Worth the 800pts, but I'd say it's probably going to depend on your multiplayer use and tolerance/addiction to grinding 'n looting.

A 1000 hit combo? Damn!

Don't worry, it's easier than it sounds. I'm seeing scores above 6000 on the hidden Leaderboards.

FYI, I've noticed that some shadier sites are displaying the secret Achievements in Dust:AET. Note that some of these are spoilers, so best to avoid them. But that link above ( http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/dust-an-elysian-tail/achievements/ ) is perfectly fine.

It was very cool actually having to come up with Achievements. Like, only real developers should get to do that.
