How are the Guild Wars novels? I've been getting into the lore and want to know if they are good and worth reading or if I should just stick to the wiki.

Ghosts of Ascalon is better than Edge of Destiny but both are pretty short reads.

Thanks. I think I'll pick them up since they're short and would like to read about the world in book form. Learning more about the lore has been fascinating and I've spent an embarrassing amount of time making sure my characters fit in within it. Makes me wish I paid more attention to it in GW1.

1. When you want to put in support for older systems, you put the support into the CPU. So people with crappy CPUs and good GPUs are being limited by their CPUs. The imbalance causes issues. Why is this done at all? Because when you want to reach further into the market, you reach out to people who aren't going to buy and install a GPU, and are going to be CPU only with integrated graphics.

2. GMG sells a copy of GW2 based on the area you're connecting from, which is great, because then you can immediately register from wherever you are and you're fine. If you've already registered your code on the GW2 site, then you're already fine.

3. Edge of Destiny is very campy, but it's worth at least a cliff notes read because the main characters, Destiny's Edge and the Queen, will be important in the actual game story (almost everyone's personal stories involve meeting a character from Destiny's Edge, and I believe the Queen is host to one of the level 40 dungeon missions or something)

4. Ghosts of Ascalon is a pretty good read, but it did it by being a generic fantasy romp. The writer did a really good job, but he did it by playing it safe.

They're both pretty mediocre and don't really give interesting backstory.

But yes, they're short and
EoD will make you dislike Logan, as you should.

It's sold out guys! (lol)

About signing up for the GAF guild, anything I need to know/do already? I'm European, not sure if that matters. (Sorry for asking this probably obvious question but I haven't really been keeping up)

Also, I've got a couple of RL mates planning to play as well, can they join up?

Looks like GMG just removed the digital version from their UK site too

I thought Ghosts of Ascalon was pretty meh, liked Edge of Destiny more.

But it felt like EoD was a trilogy crammed into a single book and that brought it down a lot.

Holy crap! I literally JUST bought the game... I'd been putting it off until i got paid, which was just now. (12:00 PST)

TOO CLOSE.

Guys where can I find explanation for all those character creation choices? I assume they alter the stats somehow but wanted to know how and also how "important" are they? I mean can I screw up there royally or is it more like in WoW where all the races stats don't mean anything in the end.

No, you can't screw up your character. Racial abilities are weaker than all profession based abilities so choose a race based on what you like the best.

I think question I refer to are profession based. Like for example engineer:

My most used tool:
Trouble may follow me but I use my _____ to overcome it:
I'm proud to be ____:

and such

What do those do?

They basically determine your character's personality and change the parameters of your personal story slightly. You can mess with the personality further in-game by choosing certain things when you talk to NPCs. It has nothing to do with your character's combat stats.

Ah great thanks.
Damn still don't know what class to play with :p

This is not WoW. You can not "gimp" your character. There are tons of viable styles of how to play any class in the game. Relax, lean back, enjoy the game.
DO NOT THINK OF THIS GAME AS YOU THOUGHT OF MMOs IN THE PAST.

I'm torn between pretty looking female character or a handsome suave bastard with a glorious mane as my planned main character. Anyone have input?

What kind of butt do you want to stare at while you play?

Better yet, why not avoid the dilemma entirely and join the Asura master race, bookah? Beauty is none of their concern.

This is a norm so don't worry. I'm a veteran MMO player and I have never seen a game where I still am not certain of my main after extensive playtime.

All classes have really fun mechanics and are viable in any role (some better suited for certain roles than others)

I din't get one

You got me all excited, patches generally = stress test :p

Eh? I've updated after every stress test and check for new updates everyday, so this is definitely new. Unless the launcher has decided to download all my previous files again..

(Assuming you have access to the 3-day headstart, and if you don't, why not?)

I'm happy to announce two upcoming...
GAFGuild Mumble Meet & Greet Events!

Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The first event will be held TONIGHT at 10PM Eastern (7PM Pacific, 2am GMT) and run until people leave. This is an hour later than the previous event since a few people on the West Coast were getting home from work and not having time to have dinner or relax.

The second event will be our Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype, and will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid). Please note that ArenaNet has stated they may start the game up to 3 hours early, so you might as well get on mumble and spam the Login button with the rest of us.

Mumble Info:
(Quote post for info)

So uh... have they said anything about the Hall of Monuments recently? I want my 30/50 rewards right away :<

Not lately, but it should be in at launch.
