I bought Ikaruga and Sine Mora via the incredibly shitty Sales & Specials+ App but I can get to play them, they don't show up on my games library but they are on my HDD, anybody know how to get to these games?

Re-download them through the normal marketplace by going to their demo/trial or simply start the one you have on your HDD. It should change over once you start them as demos/trials and then select to unlock them from inside of the game. When the purchase window pops up, it should simply ask if you want to download again rather than confirm a purchase. It did for me. That app is seriously lame.

Cheers for that, MightyHedgehog. I'm currently getting the trial for Sine Mora so hopefully that'll work. I also bought Scott Pilgrim but luckily I had the trial so that boots as the full game, odd thing is it still gives me the option to buy the game when I select purchase!

Just found this thread on it, no fix yet from MS: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/f/2505/t/298001.aspx?PageIndex=1

Doubled back and did a replay of Comic Jumper today. I had 190/200 an the last achievement basically requires 3+ playthroughs or hours of mindless grinding and I prefer to play my games to get the most of it. Like before, I think the game is pretty funny and has some things going for it. I think a few of the levels and enemy patterns are good an the bosses are rewarding. The rail sections are pretty good as well. But the bullet sponge enemies, some frustrating enemy setups, and the lack of environmental variety do drag it down. Definitely the weakest of Twisted Pixel games. The bonus content is really rich, but because the main game isn't, it feels a little hollow. Oh well, 200/200 now.

There's something fundamentally wrong with the dashboard when they have to rush a shitty app to highlight sales.

If you have a choice between Dust and The Expendables this week and you buy The Expendables, you are insane.

If you have a choice between stabbing yourself in the leg and buying The Expendables and you buy The Expendables, you are also insane.

So last weekend I decided to mock up some box arts based on what I'd want out of "Sega Heritage". Previously I had done it for Sega Vintage, games from the Megadrive and Master System days, but the Heritage collection is post that -- Saturn and Dreamcast releases, which we seem to be getting a bunch of lately.

So in turn, here are the mock ups I did:

Again, not real, but I just wish they could exist. Hopefully Sega are working on SOME of these in some fashion for 2013 and beyond, after these Heritage games (Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS, Sonic Adventure 2) are done.

And check out my tumblr blog at http://iamtherlan.tumblr.com/, I talk about design stuff all the time :p

I'd be down for expendables, but not for $15.

I'm already day one for the movie.

I saw burning rangers and thought awesome, about time. Then I read the word "mock up". Spirits dashed.

This. I hate you so much right now, Rlan.

Words cannot describe happy I was when I saw those pics and they also can't describe how heartbroken I was when I realized they were mock ups.

You've made an impotent and generally weak and lazy enemy today, Rlan. Watch you back, or don't...

Burning Rangers is one of those games that was a head of its time and would have been much better a generation later in the PS2 era. The controls and camera make it a tough game to play now. It's one of those games that desperately need a remake. Not even in graphics, but just update the controls and camera.

Is Owlboy coming to XBLA now? I noticed Otus is coming to the next Minecraft skin pack, and it seems weird that they'd do that for some pretty obscure game that isn't even out, unless there was a good reason.

I doubt it means anything. I mean I don't think Gammabros or Glorg (or even Jet Force Gemini) are heading to Xbox any time soon.

It was tentatively announced for XBLA a long time ago (or was it XBLIG?), but I don't know the current situation.

Why isn't goddamn Chu Chu Rocket available?!?!!? How hard was that to program?!?!

Makes it worse when it's out on iOS and even android. A Live version with local and online multiplayer should have been a no brainer years ago.

Sega just sucks.

Fucking hell, I just scrolled down quickly and nearly had a heart attack when those images scrolled by...
One day I guess, one day.

Weird cause I have them all for the original systems, but still.

List doesn't have Dishwasher: Dead Samurai & Vampire Smile, Raskulls, Hard Corps Uprisng, NBA Jam: OFE, Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun & NeoGeo Battle Colliseum.

I will add Pinball FX2 and The Pinball Arcade to that list. Those are must haves for people that are into pinball. I've put hundreds of hours into both of them.
(Pinball Arcade is realistic recreations of real pinball tables and Pinball FX2 has a more refined execution but they make fantasy style tables that wouldn't be possible in real life. I love both games equally but some people have a preference towards one or the other)

Playing through Dust inspired me to go back to another cameo-filled game, Super Meat Boy, and I'm wondering if the cameo levels were done by each respective games designers? Seems like the answer is obviously yes, but still.

(If so, it's funny that Phil Fish's levels were among the least imaginative... And Derek Yu's were curiously easy.)

Bionic Commando: Rearmed
Braid
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Dead Rising: Case Zero & Case West
Dust
Geometry Wars 2
GripShift
Hexic 2
Mutant Storm Reloaded
N+
Omega Five
OutRun Online Arcade
Pac-Man CE DX
Pinball FX2
Prince of Persia
Puzzle Quest
Shadow Complex
Shank 1 & 2
Shoot Many Robots
Sine Mora
Spelunky
Super Meat Boy
Trials HD
Trials Evolution
Renegade Ops
Tried to fix the list and gave up. At this point, it'd be like 2 pages long.

Summer of Arcade is over, so perhaps we'll finally see something of worth on sale this week?

I created a list of games I'd buy on sale during some work boredom last week.

Hexic 2
Poker Smash
Schizoid
Gyromancer
Rocket Knight
Rush'n Attack: Ex-Patriot
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes HD
Half-Minute Hero Super Mega Neo Climax
Galaga Legions DX
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Guardian Heroes
Fez

Of course, quite a few of those are worth their full price, but are merely victims of my XBLA backlog, etc.

My tips is to remove Schizoid and Gyromancer from that list, unless they drop to like 160MSP. Schizoid kinda blows and Gyromancer deserves a lashing for pulling that day 1 unlock key DLC bullshit.

Schizoid is pretty awesome in co-op. But I suppose that's not an option for everyone.

Does GAF have a compiled list of must have titles do XBLA somewhere?

Some of my favourite XBLA games, in alphabetical order:

A Kingdom for Keflings: This is a non-violent RTS game; basically, the focus is on building your base and efficiently harvesting resources. It's very cute, very fun, and very very different. I think the sequel, World of Keflings, is actually a little bit better on the overall, so you might find you're better off choosing that, but I like to play series in order if I can. (Also on PC, but not on Steam)

Bastion: This is a top-down hack-n-slash/action RPG. People give it a lot of praise because of the narrator, but that's not really why I love it. I think it's great because it introduces new concepts every few minutes so you constantly feel like you have something new to try, and because it does such a good job of building its world even if the level design itself isn't up to snuff. It's also gorgeous (Also on Steam)

Braid: This is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer where most of the puzzles involve time in some way. In the first world, you can rewind time, and the mechanics grow out logically from there. The art style is very unique and also very pretty, with great music as well. (Also on Steam)

Carcassonne: This is a classic board game that got an excellent XBLA adaptation. Unfortunately at this point the online community is a little bit dead so you might not get your money's worth in that respect, but as someone who loves the board game, this is a really great port. (Also on iOS) Of the other board game ports; Catan is, I feel, not a particularly good port, while Ticket to Ride is an excellent port. The online community for all three are dead.

Double Fine Happy Action Theatre: Basically a Kinect interactive screensaver that you can play around with. Awesome to put on at a party, people just make total idiots of themselves. It's not really a game. Try the demo, anyway.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved: This is the granddaddy of the modern twin-stick shooter. Excellent, pulsating visuals, really fun core gameplay loop, and the embodiment of the XBLA experience for me. Only $5. (Ports to PC, Wii, and DS are all sub-par, buy it here)

ilomilo: This is a gorgeous 3D puzzle game. You control two dudes independently and the objective of the game is to navigate them through the levels to meet up with each other somewhere in the middle. You can freely switch between guys. Often times they won't quite be able to meet up but will still be able to help each other by bridging gaps. Gorgeous, hilarious sense of humour (think WarioWare in terms of humour?), lots of content.

Lazy Raiders: This is a single-screen 2D puzzle game. You play as your Avatar or the game's hilarious Dr. Diggabone. Your character can't move; instead, you rotate the level around your character and s/he tumbles through the level. You collect loot, try to finish levels quickly, bypass obstacles, etc. The levels get pretty tough for a game that centers around such a totally basic mechanic. 75 levels, it'll take you a while to get through.

Minecraft: I think this is an excellent port of Minecraft, and the improvements in how they display recipes and the use of the Gamepad more than make up for lacking most of the recent, superfluous Minecraft PC features. I'm sure you know what the game is--it's a very light action-RPG built around lego-style construction, free exploration of a huge randomly generated world, resource gathering, and crafting. Very fun in split-screen as well. (Also on PC, obviously, although not Steam)

Peggle: Peggle is a game that most obviously resembles Pinball or Pachinko, but has a slick, friendly, appealing, and engaging presentation on top of it. Every shot that you screw up makes you feel bad, every good shot makes you feel awesome. A lot of people claim Peggle boils down to luck, but there's a reason why some people are higher than the leaderboard than others--it actually does have a reasonably high skill ceiling and requires judgment and practice. (Also on every other platform on earth)

Shadow Complex: Shadow Complex is probably the best western take on the exploration platformer / Metroidvania game type. Great level design, fun to use (and different!) powerups, lots of potential for speedrunning, several difficulties, neither too long nor too short the first time through, and great looking. Bosses are a little disappointing though.

Super Meat Boy: The genius of Super Meat Boy is simple; it's not a game being too hard that turns people off, it's the way games structure failure. You will die--thousands of times--but because each time you die you'll only lose a few seconds progress and the restarting process is instant, you'll feel empowered to try and try again until you get through the level. It applies this concept to an absolutely MASSIVE platformer filled with levels and mechanics and unlockable content. I don't really like the game much visually and the music grates on me after a while, but from a gameplay perspective, one of the best pure games on any current gen system (Also on Steam)

The Adventures of Shuggy: This is a 2D puzzle-platformer where you play as a little vampire dude. Each set of levels is a totally different mechanic; in one you might be able to fly, in another just jump, in another you use Braid-style time rewinding abilities, in another you have a bungie cord, in another you can't move and can only rotate the level, in another you're constantly moving like a zombie and can just control jumps. Tons of variety. Low budget presentation, though. One thing that's cool about it is that it has a totally separate co-op campaign with all new levels. (Also on Steam)

The Maw: The Maw is a family-friendly 3D platformer. You control an alien dude who walks and jumps around. He has a little... uh... dog blob thing ("the Maw") with him that he can shout out to. The Maw eats enemies and scenery and transforms into other forms and basically just helps you get through levels. It's not hard and it doesn't require much precision, but there are some really fun puzzles. The thing I like best is that with each passing level, the Maw gets larger... and larger... and larger... until... well, you'll see if you play the game. Trust me, it's worth it. (Also on Steam)

Torchlight: Imagine Diablo 1's premise of deep-diving one huge dungeon, mixed with Warcraft 3's visual engine, with a loving layer of polish and a little on the easier side. It's the best non-Diablo dungeon crawler I've ever played. Yeah, it's a little broken, and it's a little samey, but when you have that loot urge, I feel like it's a really good game to play to scratch it (Also on Steam)

Uno: It's an excellent port of Uno. With Xbox Live camera support. If you have a female avatar, be prepared to see penises. Has by far the grossest community of players, if you can believe me. (Also on everything else, but I understand this is by far the best version)

I think I've played demos of at least 80-85% of XBLA, and I own well over 100 XBLA titles, especially if you include PC versions as well. So if there's any game you're wondering about, maybe just ask.

Besides the above-mentioned games, I also liked the following at least a little bit: 'Splosion Man, Ancients of Ooga, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Apples to Apples, Axel and Pixel, Banjo-Kazooie, Beyond Good and Evil HD, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Castlevania: SOTN, Chime, Cloning Clyde, Comic Jumper, Costume Quest, Crimson Alliance, Deadlight, Doom, Doom II, Doritos Crash Course, Duke Nukem 3D, Exit, From Dust, Fruit Ninja Kinect, Half-Minute Hero Super Mega Neo Climax, Hardwood Backgammon, Haunt, Hexic HD, Hole in the Wall, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Iron Brigade, Joe Danger: Special Edition, Joy Ride Turbo, KrissX, Limbo, Luxor 2, Marble Blast Ultra, Mercury HG, Monkey Island 2, N+, Orcs Must Die!, Outland, Pac-Man CE, Perfect Dark, Puzzle Quest, Quarrel, Raskulls, Rock of Ages, Rocket Riot, Roogoo, Scene It? Movie Night, Schizoid, Sea Life Safari, Small Arms, Snoopy Flying Ace, Space Ark, Space Channel 5 Part 2, Space Invaders Extreme, Stacking, The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom, Trials HD, World Gone Sour, Worms

My tips is to remove Schizoid and Gyromancer from that list, unless they drop to like 160MSP. Schizoid kinda blows and Gyromancer deserves a lashing for pulling that day 1 unlock key DLC bullshit.

I actually like Schizoid. It's not the best possible execution of its idea, but I think the idea is very cool. Both the pacifist twin-stick shooter, the cooperative-two-ship stuff, and the "holy shit, single player co-op my brain is melting" mode.

That list is just games i like. Although stuff like Geometry Wars 2 is decent, it's just a timewaster with no longevity to it at all. Feel free to disagree.

I forgot about Super Meat Boy in that list.

Little more than a week til Joe Danger 2's supposed release date. Wonder when we'll actually get confirmation one way or the other.
Not looking likely. CS and JoJo are on that day, would be shitty for the JD guys if they have to share release with them. Lifelower has it down for september.

29th was the rumoured date (same as Rock Band Blitz)
When they showed it at gamescom it was mentioned that they were heading into certification and preparing the final build.

It's kind of hard to call it a "rumored date" when Xbox.com was the one who supplied it. :p

Those are the least trustworthy! Happens all the time that stuff goes up with tentative release dates...that's kinda why they get removed.

Yeah, it is, just not Trials good like so many try to make it out to be.
