I was about to say the same thing! Some of the battles/stages are very Space Channel 5-esque.Yeah, in the other thread I was saying the bosses remind me a bit of Space Channel 5. Game's looking great.
I've only played the demo, but the game Rhythm Thief is like Space Channel 5, but better in my opinion.I was about to say the same thing! Some of the battles/stages are very Space Channel 5-esque.
Now I'm really excited for this.
Maybe it's just me, but there's something very old-fashioned about that artwork. I can't help but think it wouldn't look out of place on a Famicom cartridge.
This is a good example of a demo turning me off to a game I otherwise would have impluse-purchased on release. Rarely happens, but I just do not like this. The graphics are great, the music and sound effects are charming, the presentation is fantastic. I also really love the SMW-ish world map. But the stages are pretty blah and the boss fight was really frustrating. I'd press the buttons but couldn't time the shot properly to hit the boss. I tried it 10 times. It's really hard to tell when, during your swing, your stupid golf paddle weapon will strike a boss that's coming at you from the sky on an angle super fast. I've played lots of rhythm games and runners (on iOS). This one just doesn't jive with me.
Oh well.

From Iwata Asks:
-Game was the idea of GF employee James Turner (UK), 3D Graphic artist and designer of Vanilux-line and Vullaby.
-Around 1.5 years between original idea and now.
-Produced by Pokemon game director, Masuda.
- Masuda comments on difficult of starting non-Pokemon projects at the company due to the focus on Pokemon games.
-Game spent first 6 months being developed as a side-scrolling DS game
- Originally only had one playable character, but added more to allow for more variety in play styles. Now has 3.
- Thought hard about including Pokemon music as it may break immersion.
...Seriously? Is it that hard for this company to make something that's not Pokemon?
Bit Trip Runner clone?
I need this game now, like right now. If the stages are as intense as that pokemon level, then this this will officially be my be digital crack. What are the chances of this getting a release out here?

I imagine it's a matter of "when," not "if."
This seems like a good way for GF to familiarise themselves with the hardware before Pokemon 3D actually. Still can't believe people think it will use sprites...
Yeah, even if it's just a few stages there's still Pokemon stuff. When and what price are better questions, I get the feeling this might be $15.
It would be like a company that only makes beer trying to break into new markets every 8 years or so. Complete realignment of priority and staff, schedules for key members, allocation of funds. I bet it's a big change.
I just think it's sad. There's so much creative potential there that in my opinion feels like often it's being wasted.
I don't think it will.
I dearly wish it would, but I don't think it will.
It's like being offered a steak and having a classic looking salad instead, because that's what you've always been eating.
