I really wish we could have heard Nomura speak.

Even if it didn't relate to Versus, having him out there instead of Toriyama would have been a god send.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I wish we could see the visual works history in Youtube.

If anything Nomura is the one who's saving SE from collapsing, man.

I wasn't being serious. It was a play on the weird idea that Nomura has a huge ego. Usually pops up when there is an Amano/Nomura thread and people don't realize that Nomura himself is a huge Amano fan.

Actually, until just a few years ago I wasnt a big Nomura fan. But seeing how productive he's been what with all the portable projects and Versus (lol), I've come to realize he's probably the more profitable asset SE has. His games have been essentially paying the bills.

So much awesome. :')

Although this entire event was more of remembering the old FF games rather than announcing new ones, which is pretty disappointing. :p

I believe in Lord Nomura-sama. One day he will show us the glory of a FF without Toriyama.

Well, I'm not a Nomura hater and I've never met him but he's actually criticized for his ego and sometimes childish behavior by people in the industry here in Japan. I heard stories about how he refuses to work in projects he don't like and how everyone working with him has to follow his ideas without discussion.
That may explain a couple of things regarding Versus, I don't know... or maybe they're just being jealous!

That sounds about right.

That Visual Works video... wow.

I could believe that, definitely.

If there's one thing I can't complain about though, it's that the man (more often than not) doesn't halfass his projects.

At least Nomura's stuff are complete and can tend to be good.

I'd take a hard working childish guy who gets the job done good over a creep who's works don't make sense at all.

This doesn't sound like ego, it sounds like he is a professional and is both talented enough and proved himself enough that he has the right to work on projects that he chooses.

Also, as for listening to him. That is the directors job to lead and given how often he has been right and lead to projects that I like I fail to see how that is being childish and just not a good director.

Nomura just really hates when you mess with his projects. There was a pretty recent one, I heard they wanted to change the name for it for the west, but Nomura rejected every single suggestion.

Saying that he has a big ego and that he may be childish is not my own conclusion based on those stories. That's the opinion of the people I was talking to.
And I was being nice, because what some of them said to me is that "he's a d*ck" (no, not duck). To give one concrete example: he was participating to a briefing regarding a new project but left midway just saying "I'm not interested". I don't think that's how a professional should behave.

That's up for debate. There's good in listening to what other people working with you have to say. Plus I'm not as enthusiastic as you regarding his talent as a director.

Anyway, as I said I'm not a hater, so I'll stop here.

Heh. And people think that he'll allow outside changes to Versus XIII.

Why doesn't Uematsu have a beer in his hands?

Edit: I, uh... I fell asleep. :x

no idea what's going on right now. My guess is that I didn't miss much in this Uematsu stream. Should probably take the hint and sleep.

It didn't occur to me until just now, but is there a reason (beside the fact that he left to start Mistwalker however many years ago) that Sakaguchi was seemingly completely absent from this event? It seems like it would have made sense to have at least like a video message from him or something.

Typical Japanese workplace politics.

The Visual Works video was nice, but it's a shame that FF1, 2, 5, and 6 weren't represented in some capacity.

Yeah they were.

In the Dissidia part.

It's a Visual Works History for FF, if they haven't made a CG cutscene for those titles since 1997 then those FFs aren't going to be shown.

Edit: Now that I think about it they did make some for 6. I think?

No no no, this is good.

Because it means ain't NOBODY messing with Versus, Matsuno should have done the same thing for FFXII.

Then again I don't think Matsuno had enough star power to leverage that kind of thing.

Yeah, it's really a shame what happened to Matsuno's vision for that project.

I just noticed the Ultimate Box is printed just in few copies, so I have to get that soon. Does someone know if also the announced new Ultimania Omegas are limited edition or they'll be printing them for quite some time?

I dunno if it was Visual Works, but the PSone versions of FFI, II and IV had CG intros. I suppose they didn't want to jump back and forth from title to title regarding their ports and just went from VII onward on the stuff that always meant to have Visual Works movies rather than- but then that doesn't really explain Final Fantasy III and IV appearing on there except that they were more substantial remakes on DS than just a port in 2D sprites. AAAAAGH so confusing.

I don't know what other thread to post this in, but Tabata definitely showed something at the Square Enix-chan panel yesterday which hints at some of the work they're doing internally right now. It was the part of the panel which they cut out during the stream, and no photography was allowed in the segment.

The question asked was what a more Japanese style Final Fantasy would be like, and Tabata proceeded to show some of the art design ideas they had for such a concept. He showed various artwork by famous S-E artists like Naora and Kamikokuryo and some others, mostly done in more classical Japanese art styles, like Okami and so on. The artwork showed off various things like characters (there's a girl with white hair and a guy with red hair), some environments like a town/city, and also some battle scenes.

Apparently the battle scene had what looked like a robot in it as well. The artwork were not indicative of an actual game in development, but they appear to be actual brainstorming work done internally, and not just something done for laughs like the other announcements, this is probably why they didn't want the stuff recorded and put online.

Tabata also said that if they can solidify a proper game plan and put it into production, he would like to work on a FF game with an ayakashi sort of taste - Japanese supernatural mythology. It shouldn't be surprising though, since the big FF game Tabata last worked on was Type-0 which is packed with eastern historical taste, so that's definitely a sign of his preference given freedom to do what he wants.
