Ok here's my tuppence on the multi-sku rumour:

1: White WiiU, Pad, WiiMote, eShop voucher - $249 (£199)

2: White WiiU, Pad, Wii Mote, eShop voucher, NintendoLand- $299 (£229)

3: Black WiiU, Pad, Wii Mote, External HDD, Zombi U - $349 (£259)

Or

3: Black WiiU, Pad, Wii Mote, Pro Controller/HDD, BLOPS 2 - $349 (£259)

They're my optimistic UK prices btw. I'm fully prepared, assuming the position, lubed & ready to be shafted again though.

Mmmmmm £199. Would definitely jump on it for that price. But yeah, I'm not being optimistic here. This rumour seems pretty legit, but I've been hurt before. Nintendo's not dumb though, they saw how muddled the 3DS launch was.

Would be a dream at that price. Also ties in with the Amazon UK preorder price that got pulled :D Believe.

Lapins Cretins is the best title ever, they should drop the English translation and go with that in future.

well it was made in france so that would be the true name :3

Yes, pretty common knowledge, I thought.

It's that deal that grants MS the 30-day DLC exclusivity and all the CoD promos only ever feature the Xbox 360 version. That hardware bundle that comes out every year is sure to be included in that deal.

That's why CoD is basically considered a pseudo-360 exclusive.

The press release for the DLC part of the agreement is here: http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?releaseid=479305

They should have just paid a little extra for total exclusive this just annoys others

so AC3 bundle it is

I missed DQX, but my point still stand, I don't think that any japanese game in development (if there any) will be announced this early. My guess is 3rd parties will jump boat later, based on Wii U launch reception. There's no indication that japanese turned development focus from 3DS to Wii U.

The submarine part was also a 5 minute laugh

So you think Iwata was lying when he tweeted at E3 that Japanese 3rd party efforts would be unveiled along with launch details.

And you think that Japanese support, which remember was stronger for the Wii than Western support, is going to be measurably worse than Western support and measurably worse than Wii support?

I just want to be clear- you think Wii U's Japanese launch window lineup (roughly December through March) consists of Ninja Gaiden, Tekken, Sonic Racing, and Tanks.

Your laughter will turn into a sob once it is revealed that those parody-leaks are actually true.

The Legend of Zelda: U-Boot Chronicles coming February 31st, 2014 confirmed!

Sonic Racing is technically western

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
Yeah I know- I was trying to think of every single remotely plausible game. I came up with 4 (5 if DQX makes launch window which I doubt).

Yeah, and you did well imho. I'd list:

Ninja Gaiden 3 (Tecmo-Koei)
Tank Tank Tank (Namco-Bandai)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Namco-Bandai)
Sega All Star Racing Transformed (Sega)
Dragon Quest X (Square-Enix)

as actual Japanese support for the Wii U launch window (due to the fact that we know only titles available for that period, Nintendo included, with the exception of Smash Bros Universe)

But, honestly: we should start to accept it as a fact, due to the short time left before TGS, September 13th conference and most importantly, launch.

I really really hope that your hopes will turn out to be well founded.

I am as impatient as anyone, and if I'm wrong I'll flay myself in this thread repeatedly, but Iwata's statements and simple unassailable logic tells me there is no way in hell Japanese support is 4 games, with the only new game announced in the last year an arcade port. I just do not believe that is possible.

I'm of the same opinion. The japanese conference should reveal more launch titles.

There are some pre-order deals at Newegg right now, but the problem I'm having in biting on them for Wii U is that Nintendo hasn't shown the full slate of games that will be available to purchase on launch day. I'm having to hold off and wait until Sept 13th because of this......it's kind of frustrating but I'm hopeful that a lot of those deals will still be around after the press conference.

Say… I was away doing nerdly things not related to video games (save for playing Tron and Arkanoid at a free arcade) for a full week. My guess is that we know exactly what we did seven days ago and nothing more.

Is my suspicion correct, or has there actually been progress?

Every Wii U game announced before the end of the year is not going to be released before the end of the year.

If you're arguing about Japanese support at launch, there will not be a ton of megaton barn burners. If you're talking about Japanese support in the pipeline, there will (gonna cover my ass here and say probably) be surprises in development.

The Legend of Zelda: U-Boot Chronicles coming February 31st, 2014 confirmed!

I never said or implied anything that some of the stuff mentioned cannot be possible. The wiiU daily rumor may be BS but it's not totally impossible to do on WiiU.

I was not laughing on the possibility, nor was the post directed as a technical, it was completely personal humor that I experienced out of reading that.

My laughter was completely on the point of the joke, not the actual technical content. I cannot describe it because I do not know the words to use what kind of laugh was that, but this was not a laugh like "discreditor" or the kind

I do not know how to explain this in english, I was not laughing at the content as in questioning the joke.

Hopefully you understand - I am not laughing at this like seeing something stupid/wrong/impossible/negative ...etc kind of laughs, that's another kind of laugh, this was no it. This was purely at the story as a joke. I don't know how is this called.

That was not part of any analysis whatsoever - I do not use laugh to describe anything what I was doing previously in my posts, that would be childish.

---------------------Actual debate below: (that laugh has nothing to do with this)
7.1 sound may not be possible but 5.1 is well good enough and the most important thing the new hardware will support much better quality nor just as in support but also in better audio DSP that more sound channels will be possible as well as better bitrate/effects.

Cool.

And don't get me wrong- I'm not expecting very many original, high profile titles to be at launch. But I expect a decent amount of HD ports, similar to what is coming from the West (i.e, ports of stuff like One Piece Warriors, Dead or Alive, maybe Ni no Kuni).

Edit- is there any possible way to give us any hint on the potential surprises in development?

To be fair, Japanese support needs to be absolutely spectacular to make up for terrible Western support and even more for the insulting 1st party. Which seems unlikely. Also, I could see that there actually might be no announcements to could be significant to us. Something with big popularity in the West surely would have been at E3. I guess something like Fatal Frame or Tales of is the best thing that might be revealed, as it's too Japan-centric for E3 but will eventually come out here too. But then, it might also just be games like these with the green haired pop singer... or some visual novels with lolis and shit.

That's pretty interesting. Possibly multiple SKU's for Wii U ranging from $250-$350.

Edit: Also lherre tortured us.

Checking platforms supported by UE4 ;)

(some surprises there)

Hey, cool. That's one of the things I semi-called a while ago, the idea of it being possible to sell as low as $250 if multiple skus were used. Then again, my idea was more along the lines of having a download-only sku which lacked an optical drive (but perhaps supported external optical drive expansion).

Well, there's still a lot of daylight between what's been announced thus far and "not a ton of megaton barn burners." :p

I didn't see this in the first post―has there been any word on whether save files will be transferable from Wii to Wii U? Most game saves can be moved to an SD card, but some major ones can't (Smash Bros Brawl and Animal Crossing for instance).

Did you go to Burning Man again?

Well, like it or not, Pachter is a very, very well respected source, even if people on GAF laugh at him constantly. There's a reason he's in the position of power he's in. So there's that. Secondly, I have also played the WiiU, and his points are accurate. The Wii Pad feels kinda like a toy (not that it's a bad thing) and it should be multitouch capable. People expect that at this point, especially in an age of iPhone.

I've read the article now, and he was slamming them for sure. However, he was slamming them for completely real, legitimate reasons. He was slamming Nintendo for being Nintendo, and that's fair. Nintendo's E3 conference was disappointing. Saying "...most reveals fell flat. In fairness, top-tier announcements like New Super Mario Bros. U and a Shigeru Miyamoto–introduced Pikmin 3 were nice surprises. Regardless, when Team EGM left the Nokia Theater, the consensus was disappointment." Sounds fair to me. Even if you go back to the E3 press conference thread, people were like "ZOMFG WTF NINTENDO LAND?!!??!" It was a pretty disappointing press conference, and Nintendo hasn't done much to sell the system afterwards. It is harsh, but is in no way shape or form close to an "embittered fanboy blog entry." It reads like someone who was disappointed in the showing, and states that Nintendo still has ground to make up in order to really convince the majority of people that the system is worth buying. I agree with this.

Let me put it another way, and this is the last I'm going to say on this. Apparently at this point EGM expects me to PAY at least five bucks a pop for the privilege of reading their immature fanboy trollings insulting my gaming preferences AND spend part of my aforementioned budget in order to see quotes from Michael Pachter? Uh, no. Your friend's article was a poorly worded joke and helps to make what was once a quality magazine look pathetic. Internet is killing print left and right (hello demise of NP) so it's obviously a great idea for EGM to have editors who write like embittered, biased fanboys who would be a hair away from my ignore list if they were regular posters on the sites I visit.

Yes they will. Everything will transfer over is the official word. Games, saves, etc. It's essentially a system transfer like on the 3DS/DSi.

The OP is not up to date and even contains wrong info.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Versus XIII re-emerged as a Wii U/PS3 title with extra content on the Wii U version?

Well, that's not going to happen.

We're sitting here looking at Tanks! as the only new Japanese announced Wii U game in the last year and our resident insider is making jokes :(

Great! As much as I like the game, I would not be eager to put another 50 hours into Smash Bros. to reopen everything.

Versus XIII used to be a major reason I gave in and bought a PS3 lol

Are online games on wii part of a main nintendo network?
I'm asking cause it seems takara tomy has nothing to with Naruto anymore, the serie being no more mentionned on their website, but the online for the last game is still working.

Old stuff is still running on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. That's a different architecture, probably completely independent from Nintendo Network.

Like the original Xbox Live was completely different from the Xbox Live that launched on the 360 and they ultimately shut down the old Xbox Live in 2010 or so.
