We've also heard this is going to be a doozy of an event, and could be a couple of hours long. So buckle up, folks.
From The Verge. Techcruch said the same thing. Oh boy.

Welp I've gotta head out.

Guevara will you update the OP with relevant info's?

Two hours?

Crazy talk. Hope they announce you can just buy their products off the Canadian store without going through the US site.

So many announcements in this 2 week period. Nokia/WP8, motorola, amazon, and Apple.

I have no need for a new kindle but I'll probably want one in an hour.

New sidelit Kindle being shown right now. Kindle Paperwhite.

$119 for Wifi.
$179 for 3G.
Ships October 1st.

-better contrast
-more fonts and margin options
-sidelit
-higher resolution screen
-8 weeks of battery life with light on
-7.5 ounces (vs current Kindle's 5.98 ounces)
-cover mode, swipe through titles
-cloud connected like Fire
-tracks your speed of reading
-still includes X-ray like Kindle Touch

Wonder how much of the stuff Amazon is going to talk about will be available to people outside the US.

I know the answer is "none" but one can hope :(

Are these things expected to go on sale today after the conference is over?

Paperwhite might be available today while the new Fire might be a late September-early November release. Expect a backorder delay regardless.

Holy battery life! I might bite for this new Kindle, my 3 is still working great, but dat sidelighting.

Might get the new kindle if it is cheap enough so I can access the Prime Lender Library (or hey, just let me access the Lender Library from any device Amazon :< )

"eight weeks of battery life even with the light on"

Assuming that's with all wireless options off, but still, that's great.

Literally just received an email from Kobo here in Canada that their new e-readers are going on sale today.

lol
