I wouldn't get too juiced up about no streams. Now if we get wind of no live blogs or embargoes, then tat would be weird.

no stream could mean huge things... they could embargo the press for a few days until Japan readiest pre-TGS Nintendo Direct

but I am clueless as to why Nintendo would not stream such a thing

Unless an embargo is given at the event, there has been no word on one from Nintendo regarding it. Highly unlikely an embargo will be in place as live-blogs are planned.

Looking back at Wiki, Nintendo announced the launch details for the Wii nearly six years to the day before the upcoming media briefing, so they're pretty much following the schedule exactly here. I can't remember when the first time was though that I got a good look at the Wii Menu, Virtual Console, and all the features like that. I think it wasn't even from Nintendo, but from video previous from places like 1up.

So I think we can say that we'll almost definitely get launch details, but I'm still not so sure about the OS, online system, etc.

You remember wrong. All the things mentioned were discussed at the September 2006 press event.

Either it's amazing news they don't want the general public to know yet, or they want to cover up less than great news?

Or they're just not doing it because (since NO ONE remembers that far back) Nintendo did the same thing in 2006.

So even lower than 1TFLOP/s... wow... nintendo never ends to amaze me.

It really isn't a big deal tbh. We're looking at a 600-800GFLOPS GPU in the U, a 1GFLOP GPU in the 720 and a 1.8GFLOP GPU in the PS4. As long as the U's GPU has a 2012 feature set (and common sense would say it does) it won't be a problem. Going by what we know of the PS4 and 720 so far all 3 consoles are going to be in the same sort of ballpark in terms of power, as they were last gen.

If there's no stream, the information will probably be officially revealed right afterwards. Doesn't that gameinformer WiiU thing also start soon?
I mean, they didn't do a good job in making this thing look exciting until now, but eventually they have to finally tell people when it is coming out, regardless of how much it apparently hurts them to show us anything related to it currently :lol What's worse is that there's still no further details for Iwatas showing that should happen ...whenever, while there's complete silence from NoE who haven't even revealed the 3DS dates for the rest of the year.

If Wii U's GPU comes anywhere near 1TFLOP then i will be over the moon with it (esp after E3 all we heard was it was more than likely around the 500 - 600 GFLOP level), esp when combined with 1.5GB of Ram.

Didn't Epic say something along the lines of 'Unreal Engine 4 starts to become interesting at around the 1TFLOP mark' ?.

What Epic Say: DX11 and 1+TFlop

things that people keep forgetting: the time of the conference and what happened last conference. seriously, without this lack of being informed, this thread would be tremendously smaller.

..but cry so much I wish I had some
I still wonder why people are arguing over what the Wii U can push as far as specs go. I mean, having owned pretty much every Nintendo system ever (except the virtual boy) I am indeed planning on getting a Wii U even if it's only to play First party titles and the few exclusive 3rd party titles, but people need to stop being delusional. Even if developers aren't using 100% of the hardware right now, just look at the current ports we are getting as well as Nintendo's own titles and compare them to 360/PS3 titles and you'll see there isn't any difference. Maybe in the future once we are getting PS4/720 ports to Wii U and developers have gotten better with the hardware we'll be getting something better, but it won't be that much better than what we are currently getting this generation.

I mean, I get we're on an online forum and people just keep on talking about whatever they can find and speculate since we don't have all the details yet, but if the 250-300$ price point is true, then it's easy to see that this is a low cost/low power console meant to attract people using new play controls (touch screen controller and motion) and the low cost means more people will most likely get it or at least buy it as their 2nd console. I mean, just like with the Wii, Nintendo is in it to make a profit, most likely from day 1.

And if this does support UE4, it'll be like iPad supports UE3: it runs on it but it obviously doesn't look as good as on other more powerful systems.

Something to consider....

Here is a video of the 2006 press event from London:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvnULQaN97M

The first 20 minutes were literally spent justifying their decision to reach the expanded audience. A LOT of time was spent doing that. They then spent a good 10-15 minutes playing tennis with pro tennis players to justify that, yes, the game plays as good as can be approximated by a remote controller (for those who forget, this was a big deal at the time). This time, Nintendo doesn't have quite as much of a hard sell in these regards, so more time can be given to things that are actually worth discussing.

An embargo would be insane, publicly revealing launch details any later than this month wouldn't make any sense

It wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to announce some big Wii U conference and then tell the press not to talk about it. That would defeat the entire point of a conference. I'd be surprised of there isn't some kind of stream / page devoted to it on Nintendo's website. Even if no stream, I'm sure we'll get some worthwhile info.

The tendency towards a genre I've never fully enjoyed, uninspired settings and countless attempts copying blockbuster movies even though this medium can do much more also wasn't to my liking, to say the least.
Which is why the WiiU frustrates me almost as much currently. I was expecting Nintendo to shake up the HD landscape with creative high budget projects, but what they gave us instead was karaoke, several iterations of Wii Play in disguise and more rehashing. Now it's time to wait yet another year before full-fledged 1st party projects might be revealed, yay...

Hey man can you maybe wait until some games start coming out before getting so upset? You think Wii ports, karaoke, and old ps360 games are all we will see? Come on dude...

An embargo would do nothing for the release date/price point. They would definitely leak out. It could be an embargo on game videos on screens though.

Well, at some point I just get sick of waiting. I will get the console because it will receive the 1st party support I've wanted sooner or later, but if they are already starting next gen in such a lacklustre way I'm not put into the most positive mood towards it for now.

^ I always believe in u BG and I'm cool with those numbers I just want my WiiU now

I think we (most) all do.

Could the $250 bundle be a Wii U console with a pro controller ?, with the $300 pack coming with a Wii U gamepad and the $350 pack coming with a Wii U gamepad, Nintendo Land and a Wii mote ?

No. Just because the usage is optional doesn't mean an extreme like that of leaving out the controller.

To the former, you should have read my other post for context. To the latter yes, but that starts a whole different debate for me.

Single monsters GPU that won't fit in even the biggest consoles, sure. Do you believe that Ps4 and NextBox are going to be powerhouses? Do you know they are actually targeting 1.8Tflops and 1-1.2Tlfops? The GPU in my rig isn't considered an slouch either, and is rated at a paltry 1.5Tflops (an OC GTX 570).

Yeah, but you have an nVidia GPU.

Someone finally translated the article for us, and based on the translation you can ignore that meaning something.

However if GPU7 ends up like I think it will I would say it's performance could be comparable to, if not better than, a 4850 in a PC.

It was before we got a proper translation.

Couldn't we then consider it to be ~7750, since it's slightly better than a 4850, but has all the modern bells and whistles?

Your Nvidia GPU calculates FLOPs differently.

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for posting it. Now I have a close idea of what to wait from Nintendo's conference :D.

I hope this is right; I made a time zone checker for the event on the 13th.

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclo...U+Event+September+13th&iso=20120913T10&p1=179

8:00 a.m. - Monterrey, MX. Nice. Shall I wait eager.

The lack of any live streaming could just mean Nintendo wants to edit the video of the event to be perfect before they release it - they've done that before, and Apple *always* does it. They know the press will be live-blogging it as well as posting news stories and whatnot, so the live-stream isn't really all that important to Nintendo.

My guess is they won't talk about or link a stream until 24 hours before this goes down. Just like they do with NDs recently.

Hopefully, this won't give you any idea of what to expect. It was SUPER-BORING. This is a press event in the worst way and has nothing in the way of entertainment value. Unless something changes in the way the presentation is done compared to 2006, I wouldn't want to see a live stream of it.

No embargoes.

And if it is like 2006, everything will run in that morning's USA today (in addition to details from Japan the night before).
