Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

I wonder how much of a sequel to Peace Walker this will be, the trailer makes it look like a straight up sequel, but given the performance of Peace Walker, that'd be pretty bold.

I totally missed those long codec conversations in MGS4

I found them intolerable in MGS2 because way too much necessary exposition was delivered via codec and the writing is ridiculously verbose. Kojima always uses 4 paragraphs to say what could have been said in 2 sentences. And just in case you forgot what the hell you were doing after sitting there staring at the codec screen for 15 minutes, they'll repeat it.

Now MGS3 did it much better, less codec convos and the ones that were there were more concise, and more entertaining cutscenes to deliver the story. Plus it was loaded with tons of optional codec convos that gave you background, trivia, easter eggs, tips and character development without destroying the flow of the main game. That's what I missed from MGS4, the optional stuff.

If it did that it won't simply unlock a costume. It will do something much crazier.

Thats why i said data and progression. It could be something much larger than what most games do, which is usually just a character skin. They mention Motherbase in the trailer, and Ground Zeroes is "open world," so im sure theres allot of leveling up and controlling areas. Kinda like Peace Walker was.

Transfarring! Don't see why not.
Well Transfarring is more of a system to system transfer. This is just the same system, so it would seem like it would be much more easy and practical.

Well, obviously it starts off as a direct follow up, but I have a feeling that won't last long. Could see Mother Base taken over or destroyed by the time Snake gets home and go from there.

It seems like a direct sequel in terms of plot, which is a first for the series. Not even 4 was really a direct sequel to any game

I don't think it'll be PW like in terms of mechanics though, since so much of PW's design was in consideration towards a portable platform and a MonHun playing audience.

I can't imagine them adapting the formula to consoles, but I mean who knows.

I guess that makes sense. Mother Base gets destroyed, Big Boss claims the nation in South Africa and names it Outer Heaven.

Unless there's a bit of retconning and Mother Base will end up being Outer Heaven. I mean, it already pretty much is the same thing currently - a sanctuary for desillusioned soldiers to have a home. Big Boss even has a Metel Gear with nuclear launch capabilities.

So either some stuff from MG gets retconned or Mother Base gets destroyed and Big Boss starts all over and builds the exact same thing.

I vote for option A...

I can't see the entire game taking place in South/Central America again. I think they've done enough with that particular region of the world with Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Hopefully those "UN inspectors" aren't too friendly and something bad happens at Mother Base forcing Snake to take his unit somewhere else in the world. On to Africa...

It's confirmed with the helicopter you can fly to other countries.

PW kinda looks like a prologue to GZ (which seems to be a prologue to MGS5).

PW was an experiment imo, they did stuff and had fun with things they wouldn't have been able to get away with in a main console entry.

I wonder if GZ will integrate a hallmark of open world games which is side missions unrelated to the main story.

Probably will. In Spring 2011 Konami had that Metal Gear survey posted and a lot of the questions were about Peace Walker in particular. I wouldn't be surprised to see the most popular elements from that game showing up in Ground Zeroes. Especially if Snake has to set up a new base in another country, that's a story-driven reason to bring back the base-building and recruit more soldiers.

There is so much attention to detail in the main story I hope it's not sacrificed for the side missions then. And I still need to play PW... will do once I plat MGS4.

I'd never heard Peace was the theme for Peace Walker, obviously it's plastered in it, but I'd never heard it in the context of the one word themes of the mainline entries.

It's about taking everything that made Sense and throwing it into the Pacific

The spoiler is only an MGS1 spoiler. Just aware that there's probably a lot of newcomers to the series, because of the new unveiling and didn't want to spoil a neat twist from the original.

One thing that just came back to me, that i wouldn't mind someone who knows the saga better than me answering. Is it ever explained why
Snake looks and sounds almost exactly like Big Boss, if he's in inferior clone? And why Liquid doesn't look or sound anything like him, if he's the superior clone? I thought the superior clone, would be the one that matches the original closest.

Liquid is British, but they both look the same, Snake dyes his hair.

I think in Japan, all the Snakes have the same voices, don't they?

Big Boss had brown hair and so do his clones. Liquid is the one who dyed his hair blonde.
I don't think so, in the briefing of MGS1 Snake has blond hair.

In reality, one of them should have blond hair, and one brown, as they are dictated by recessive and dominate genes.

Didn't Liquid's hair turn blonde due to his time in the Gulf War?

No way! The codec sequences in MGS3 are unbearable. The one after you get your backpack from the tree in which The Boss is introduced and the one in the swamp area with Eva in particular are awful. MGS2 had just as much if not more optional codec content with Pliskin, Stillman, Otacon, Rose (non-save), and Campbell to contact at just about any time, with occasional input from Mr. X. Also, 15 minutes is a gross exaggeration. The only one that applies to is the Federal Hall conversation.

Liquid was the superior clone all along (dominant genes), Solid was the inferior (recessive genes). This is revealed at the very end of TTS, and I think the original MGS as well (although they might've just mentioned Mr. President aka Solidus in that one) This isn't how genes work in real life btw lol

Nope, at least not Liquid and Solid.

How do you know that's not grey? Maybe he was dying his grey hair.
Are there people who have blonde hair and a brown beard? Or is he dying his beard too.

For what is worth:

It was mistakenly believed that Solid Snake was blond and dyed his hair brown during the Shadow Moses Incident, due to the sepia tone and lighting in the Shadow Moses briefing files making Solid Snake's hair seem light-colored. However, this was rectified in the remake Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, which shows Snake being brown haired in the same briefing files.
